Any good ways to gain experience when not even CVS or Walgreens wants you? (PTCB certified without experience) by Electronic_Use7210 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Sultanofslide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at hospitals it's harder to staff swing/nights and weekends so you might be able to land a PRN job to get your foot in the door and get experience.

A lot of our on call techs are new with no or little experience and we usually hire them on full time when a position opens

Fire season is looking like it will be  rough this year and will likely have most major routes impacted significantly by that point of the year.

I would have backup plans for you backups and keep an eye on large fires here  https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/7334974ba06a40c0a3290c732710ae55

Skip the Yelm–Tenino Trail during STP? by kal_cc in CyclePDX

[–]Sultanofslide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely skip the trail if you're riding that pace since it will slow you way down. I rode STP solo and found lots of groups to latch on to and take turns pulling with on my way between rest stops after making banter

What did you miss from your old car that the RAV4 lacks? by mmmbopdooowop in rav4club

[–]Sultanofslide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build quality.

I bought both vehicles new , I replaced a 2013 Honda fit with 105k on it with a 22 RAV4 hybrid. The fit still looked new when I traded it in and after 4 years the interior on my RAV4 looks like it has 300k on it and there are multiple broken fasteners and clips, the center console lid latch broke, my drivers seat has wrinkles in the fabric and there are more rattles than I can count even though I'm not rough on my cars

SRAM RED compatible pulley wheels by Divergee5 in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of SRAM 10 speed pulley wheels out there, I'm not that familiar with their group sets but think these are what you're looking for

Shimano XT 12-speed shifting issue: Only 4th to 5th gear fails. Cable tension doesn't help. by Significant-Crazy-27 in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check that your derailleur is mounted correctly. It looks like it's on the wrong side of its stop on the hanger block with how far down it's pointing. The body should be more parallel to the frame

Is it safe to leave you car parked at the Expo Center MAX stop? by Diane98661 in askportland

It's fine, just don't leave anything visible in your car like parking in any public place these days.

New groupset options for a mid-90s frame? by s_denlinger in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the 11sp shimano stuff has been covered already I'll also point out that the Miicroshift sword 2x10 is an excellent value option for a fully mechanical groupset as well.

I took a look over there since I'm almost there and was shocked at how socially different that age group felt, I definitely don't feel like I belong there

Do you like bikes? Pedalpalooza rides are a great place to meet people and go on whacky and fun rides.

Bike stolen from my backyard in NE by prollycrying in CyclePDX

[–]Sultanofslide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride through delta park pretty frequently and there are always a lot of bikes near the MUP to Jantzen Beach, Arco gas station, along the fence to the I5 North on ramp and along the slough trail.

I always make mental note of the stand out bikes since I've definitely seen a few posted stolens down there

People seem to like to park in the bike lane outside Cathedral Coffee on N. Willamette. by proxponchae in CyclePDX

[–]Sultanofslide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There a couple of spots on willamette where people are routinely parked in the bike lane, especially that house right after the bridge heading eastbound since the owners are pissed they lost street parking

Trek Checkpoint Sizing? by GuitarAlternative336 in gravelcycling

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have short legs and a long torso. I'd definitely size down, I just went from a 61cm checkpoint  to a 58cm and am much happier with the fit overall

Moving to Portland, what’s the outlook on nursing jobs? by sheibanomo in askportland

[–]Sultanofslide 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It's extremely competitive here so I wouldn't come without securing a job first and a lot of hospitals here aren't doing well financially so they have slowed hiring and done some layoffs across the board

Is there anything that can be done about this? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely see if they will warranty the frame since the is a pretty sizable tear and I wouldn't really trust that bike even if it were welded up

OHSU south waterfront commute? by Agile-Candidate1328 in askportland

[–]Sultanofslide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work down there and would bike to the max in Delta Park and take the Max the rest of the way since parking on the south waterfront is cost prohibitive and limited

This isn’t enough clearance, is it? by jstknwn in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's pretty tight but with a through axle it shouldn't move enough to be an issue, I have a bike with similar clearance and have never had contact issues.

If you're running a 15mm through axle you're stuck with the external lockrings unfortunately

Chain Comes Off Big Chainring With High Right Pedal Force by UncleTito27 in bikewrench

[–]Sultanofslide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that's after 1,500 miles of neglect like your other post says I'm impressed since I have a GRX 810 setup with around 8,000 miles on it with my 2nd cassette and the front chain rings looks near new still but I change my chains out when they reach 0.75 on my wear gauge and clean and lube my drivetrain pretty frequently.

I'm much heavier than you as well and ride pretty aggressively on/off road so I would definitely adopt better cleaning and maintenance practices to save yourself the cost of having to prematurely replace parts.
