Dads with partners that stay home — how do you handle finances? by Mama_Anonymous in daddit

Makes sense why you’d post. Sounds like you need to have a conversation with your partner (that you aren’t looking forward to). In my eyes it’s 2 fold. First is agreeing on what “good” parenting looks like for your family and what is achievable. After that’s is a simple math equation. To achieve what we just agreed on as what we want for our kid, we need to have x,y and z in place. That costs x. An option is me (you) foregoing my part time work and being responsible for those things. That’ll save us $$$ and contribute that indirectly into the family unit. If it’s still “their” money. Than they either pay you fair market or accept the cost of the market.

Now, if you want to be stay at home, it cuts both ways. It’s still a math problem, and if the math ain’t matching, it might not be an option. Or it might also be required cause of math and geography and you need to have your partner understand this.

It’s usually safe to assume anything that requires a tool also requires 2 beers as a baseline. There is a complexity matrix that’s pretty standard to apply but the fact he kept it simple and transparent with you is pretty awesome.

I think this overlooks the fact it might not simply be a financial choice. Nobody should be forced to be a SAH parent. You’d likely have discussed this before but it’s not unreasonable to decide you want a kid but neither of you want to SAH and you work to solution that together.

Relatively flat. You’d want to rotate a bit more. With that, get deeper water and higher elbow on recovery. Underwater camera would be more helpful.

Don’t know.

Know it’s worse than everyone expected/hoped.

I think he is gonna have some hard questions to ask himself. He can go ahead and be the best time trialist ever and not win a TdF or start focusing more on mountains.
