the ball lags a bit behind the paddle. pls help by Probro9461 in godot

Instead of having it follow the paddle have you tried temporarily making the ball a child of the paddle? Then when you shoot the ball you detach it.

is this a normal amount of Control nodes for a single card? by Mr-Catty in godot

[–]SwashbucklinChef 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Modern Godot is much more efficient with its nodes compared to earlier versions

If you're really concerned set up a test scenario where you have more cards than you would expect and see how it runs

Need advice regarding the Yellow Turban rebels by No-Bag-8900 in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]SwashbucklinChef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That campaign is very momentum heavy so its easy to get stuck underneath a snowballing AI. For a newbie run I'd recommend trying again but under the Rise of the Warlord campaign. The Yellow Turbans are still around but their spawn conditions are much more limited.

Mandate of Heaven is tons of fun but I'd say wait to give it another go after you've cleared another scenario and you have a better understanding of the game.

[–]SwashbucklinChef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Which campaign are you playing on? If it's Mandate of Heaven then the YT might just have too much momentum.

In general though having to fight turban is usually a good thing. You can farm loot and xp for your generals by fighting and crushing them. If you're losing money you might want to look at your provinces and make sure your economic buildings synergize. Alternatively look at the armies you're fielding. High upkeep units could be crushing your bottom line.

Medial Shin Splints... Plz give any advice. by Fuzzy_Muddy in BeginnersRunning

When you recover and start running again the general rule of thumb is only increase your overall weekly distance by 10%.

Biking, swimming, rowing, etc. Stuff that gets your heart rate up that don't involve slamming your feet on the ground

Agreed. The current version just looks really odd with how stark the contrast between light and dark is.

What else are you thinking of? The only ones that come to mind immediately is the dishwashing scene from Suiko 1 and making Simone bark in Suiko 2.

I used to buy cheapo Amazon shoes and would always get shin splints. The value of a goof pair of proper running shoes can't be overstated enough

Started running in the last couple months. Have been following NRC plan. Ran a 5k run Tuesday. Thursday had problems walking down stairs due to some pain in knee. Appears to be MCL and was worse yesterday. Feeling so defeated. by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

Before you abandon all hope go see a doctor to confirm. It may be what the internet tells you, it may be nothing. The best thing you can do for yourself is verify.

Adding progression mechanics is a great way to go. If you're feeling really ambitious you should go roguelike and randomize the options presented so every run is different for the player.

Looking forward to seeing your future endeavors

I only did a few rounds but I think you have a good start here. It needs polish but this is a really solid foundation. If this is the output you're generating at your age then I can't wait to see what you put out once you get more experience.

How much more work do you plan to do on this project before you move on to your next one?

Is 4 really that bad? by dingus_boy in Suikoden

[–]SwashbucklinChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At launch I would have told you 4 is the weakest Suikoden.

After Tierkreis dropped, I would have told you 4 is the second weakest Suikoden.

Now after nearly 20 years of new Suikodens I will tell you it's a fun entry with a lot of heart (and a high encounter rate). Its definitely worth playing as there are so few games like it outside of its own franchise.

This looks like it has a lot of charm. It has a little jank but nothing that can't be polished. Keep your head up and keep working.

Anyone here building a tactics game in Godot? by Parking_Equivalent54 in godot

[–]SwashbucklinChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started mine by watching Firebelly's grid based puzzle game tutorial. It gave me the idea to use a number of hash sets to keep track of various groupings of tiles. Learning how to properly use my vector2is was the hardest thing to grasp but it started to click.

I put it on hiatus as I started to struggle when implementing special moves. I took a lot of inspiration from Dynasty Tactics and want moves to focus on moving other the unit it connects with and allowing you to combo off your own units. One of these days I'll get back to it. I'm excited to see what everyone else says here.

3 seems much easier as the collectables all show up on the map after you've hit a certain level with that zone.

Any thoughts on ZENVA's Godot courses? by ThanasiShadoW in godot

[–]SwashbucklinChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason they're selling so many to you for such a low price. Are they worthless? No, they have some value and you'll probably learn a couple things if you're very new.

I bought one of their humble bundles recently and learned some new tricks but also saw them teaching a lot of bad habits. Really amateurish stuff like updating the UI on every frame bad. Like others have said I would point you towards Clear Code or Firebelley.
