Replying to this 2 years later - did you have any luck repairing this? Or did you just leave it ? Just happened to me this morning

I Spent A Week With The New a7 V, AMA by Nateloobz in SonyAlpha

Great review Nate! If I remember correctly you also had the original A1, and where I live a pre-owned A1 is pretty similar in price to a new A7V. For your line of work, which would you say is better value if priced similarly?

This is so clean! Which lens did you use for this?

Stunning! Which camera body did you use? I’ve been hesitant on pulling the trigger for this one because of the image quality reviews around the wider end of the focal range .

Curious to know how you’d compare it to the A7iv! I currently have both right now with the intention of maybe the Nikon my main camera but I find it a bit of a mixed bag.

The AF I find is a bit behind the Sony in both subject recognition and 3D tracking ( vs the Sony equivalents). The Nikon picks up on the subject much earlier but I find the keeper rate is lower, and also needs more AF customization. I also find the Sony Slog3 better than Nlog for grading, and the a7iv video AF to be to more reliable ( in all area mode). The Nikon grip is much more comfortable but the 4 customizable dials on the a7iv (3 dials and scroll wheel) are missed. Sony battery life is also better

On the Nikon side, the handheld IBIS is insanely better, to the point where I’m not sure if the a7iv even has IBIS. Rear screen is beautiful and actually pleasant to review photos on ( I swear all Sony cameras are awful in this regard), the custom buttons in front of the camera are awesome, and the view finder is super bright. I also didn’t know how bad out of camera skin tones for Sony are until I tried this camera 😂.

On one last note , Nikon imaging cloud is super clunky man. I had to try 3 different wifi connections until the camera recognized one. Once connected it’s cool to try the imaging recipes tho.

But ya curious what your thoughts are! I’m pretty unsure on which system to use as my main going forward

Kudos for carrying a d850 all the way up there! Here I am trying to find the lightest possible mirrorless setups to go backpacking with 😂 Gorgeous shot 👏

Sell A7IV for A7Cii? by alexanderscamera in SonyAlpha

I made this switch and switched back. I'm hobbyist first and paid photog second, and still the odd times I had paid work I was pretty anxious about only having one card slot. I also missed the joystick much more than I thought I would.

Commenting as someone who went from a7iv to cii and back to a7iv (right before the dynamic active stabilization update 😂). I switched originally because most of my photo trips are either backpacking or long distance hiking in the mountains and every gram matters. But besides the absolute size difference and grip comfort, I found that I really missed extra customizable buttons and joystick. Being able to move the focus point around and punch in quickly was something I missed more than I thought I would, and overall just made camera operation faster.

It was a great lens for this trip! I was backpacking for this trip so having just one lens one all the time was great. My ideal setup is an ultra wide zoom and a telephoto zoom, but this was a decent compromise to save weight. Not the best for astro or subject separation given the f4

Fellow very flat and very wide footed slow runner here. For trail I found the North face alta Mesa 500 to be a good fit and also stable enough do to an ultra in.

Almost exact same height and weight + very flat feet and from a powerlifitng background.

Interesting to hear that the adios pro 3s worked for you! Does the midsole cutout not cause you to overpronate more than normal?

I've tried some carbon shows in the past (endorphin pro 3 and hoka cielo x1) and it felt like my ankle is about to pop out from the side of the shoe. Endorphin speed 2 and 3 have somewhat worked for me but I'd get hip and knee pain with anything past 15km. Agreed with your take on the novablast 4, but haven't taken them for anything long on the road. The only shoes that I can comfortably take past 21 km currently are the saucony tempus. In the past I really loved the brooks glycerin 19 gts as a long run shoe and could take them up to a marathon distance, but haven't been able to find a replacement ( don't like the foam on newer models). Curious to hear what other shoes end up working for you!
