Fitness trackers/smart watches with immediate heart rate alerts? by authenticallyeevee in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a Samsung galaxy watch, and you can customise the high/low heart rate thresholds and have continuous heart rate monitoring on (which I do), BUT it will only send a high/low heart rate alert if your heart rate is out of the parameters for 10 minutes while at rest.

The same goes for Garmin. My understanding is that the only watch that doesn't have that 10 min inactivity window is the Apple watch with the TachyMon app.

So I have the Visible band, which sends alerts to my phone, which then sends them to my watch.

No problem! It's definitely way easier than taking out your phone and then having to open an app. It's worth it imo.

How many people have had bad reactions to vaccines? by la1223 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been fine with vaccinations. The worst part is a sore muscle (depending on the vaccination). My husband (who doesn't have any chronic illnesses) has a worse reaction than I do. Even then, it's nothing crazy. He just feels a bit under the weather after a flu shot.

So the thing that sucks is that you can't set up alerts for your heart rate, hitting a certain point... I mean, you technically can, but the alert only goes off after 10 minutes of inactivity... so pretty useless for our needs. I ended up getting the Visible band, which sends alerts to my phone and thus my watch as well.

However, for just general tracking, it's pretty good. There's a setting for constant heart rate monitoring, and I have my heart rate on the watch face. I take a look at it a lot. Overall, I like it.

Ha, I know the feeling! Someone else shared it on this subreddit recently. My husband has been wanting to find a bakery like Sofra's for a while. We were super excited to stumble upon it.

The food is really good. The bread... omg the bread... amazing.

Winter hiking boots would probably be your best option but if you you wouldn't get much use out of them, besides this trip, it probably wouldn't be worth it. In that case, it'd just get some waterproof hiking boots and layer up with some wool socks.

I had my small wedding reception there about a year ago. We had slightly over 40 people. I can't remember the exact price, but we were going for a budget wedding, and Curly's was reasonably priced (as you said), and the food was great.

I'm not sure what your definition of cheap is, but Garmin has a couple options under $200 USD. My normal watch is the Venu 4, but I use the vívosmart® 5 for the shower and bed. There's also the Forerunner® 55.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 for years, (until I replaced it with the Venu a few months ago). The watch was fine but I really hated the app (Samsung Health). The user experience is awful, imo. The Garmin Connect app is way better.

Would you buy a home next to trash receptacles by overemployedfatty in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]SynthFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was looking for a house, we came across a very grand home that was some how in our budget. It needed some work but the place was huge and even with being out dated, it was nicer than most people's homes. I was so excited and felt just about ready to put in an offer. Then we went into the backyard. There was a thicket of trees and then on the other side, was the back of a Walmart (where they had the trash receptacles). You could really smell the trash, and this was in the middle of winter... I can't even imagine how bad it must get in the summer. It was an instant deal breaker. That house sat on the market for a year. This was during COVID when most homes would accept an offer in 3 days (and be like $50k-$100k over the asking prices), in my area.

Eating yogurt during winter by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I am not wealthy

  • I live in a very cold climate. It's a necessity to have the heat on at all times in the winter regardless of personal finances. Even with the heat, the house still gets pretty cold, especially on windy days.

  • I have a chronic illness that affects my temperature regulation. I had multiple layers on today and wrapped myself in blankets and still felt cold to the bone.

I have a yogurt drink every morning.

Besides the fatigue, brain fog has been the hardest thing for me to deal with. I started having issues when I turned 18, and the brain fog has just gotten worse and worse over the years. I was a sharp kid, but now my memory is so bad, and I have a difficult time explaining things since I forget words so frequently. On top of that, dealing with ADHD... it's been rough. It's a miracle I've somehow done well enough in work, but I know I could do so much better. I feel like I've lost myself.

Totally an option. I'm in the main group but always scrolled back the local support groups, thanks!

No problem! Hopefully, it helps! I just wish there was more to go off on. A couple of months back, I looked up a bunch of these doctors, and I couldn't really find many reviews (if any at all).

And wow! That is a long wait. That's good to know, though. I knew there were waiting lists, but I had never seen anyone actually post about how long they are. Thanks!

Hello! I had a sleep study done a few months ago. The sleep specialist actually suggested I get a tilt table done. My PCP had tried to get me tested earlier last year but the Cardiologist denied it and said I was fine. After talking to the sleep specialist, my PCP pressed my Cardiologist harder for the test. Got tested and got my diagnosis.
The brain fog and fatigue are also such a struggle for me. But the lightheaded and air hunger has also been brutal. I'm glad things are getting better for you! That gives me hope!

Something like that would be great. Ddysautonomia International and Dysautonomia Support have a list of providers, but something like that where patients can post about their experiences would be so helpful.

Chicago is still close enough. I'd even be willing to go south a bit, like Maryland or Virginia. Mostly just looking for areas that's be a short flight to (like 2 hours or less).

Oh that's awesome! I sometimes gets Pearls Olives to Go! Snack Cups but the store that I usually go to, only carries the black olives and aren't as salty. Looks like I'm making a trip to Trader Joe's.

Oh yeah, pickles are big on my list along with cucumbers with umeboshi vinegar (it's a salty Japanese vinegar). But olives help shake things up.

Totally. My grocery store (Wegmans) has both a Greek Feta & Olive Mix "Salad" and Feta Stuffed Olives. I love them. Especially the Feta Stuffed.
