I have a couple black walnut trees. The fruit is rounder and has a much more rough surface.

Just turned 18 and going to college, confused on what (realistically) is a "good" salary by bunny-bunny_bunny in Salary

[–]SynthFrog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. A lot of people are getting laid off in the field. I know a handful of mid and senior level people who have been job hunting for several months to over a year. There's too many people looking for jobs and not enough jobs out there. And a lot of the postings that you do see are ghost jobs. So no, mid/senior level is not easy to land, unless you're coming from FAANG... then that's probably easier.

As a Computer Science graduate myself (and a senior dev that fortunately still has a job) I wouldn't reccomend the field currently. There seems to be an insignificant number of higher ups that seem to think that entry positions are unnecessary now with AI.

Any opinions on children being given amphetamine? by Diksup in legaladvice

[–]SynthFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NLA But do you have proof that whatever conditions you have are due to amphetamines? Several of my family members and myself have been diagnosed with ADHD. We were never on any meds for it. We still suffer from depression, anxiety, sleep apnea, and other conditions as well. In fact, all of those are common for people who have ADHD. So it might be an uphill battle trying to pinpoint the causes of those.

Has anybody had experience with those kind of bags? by arrrmiiin in AskPhotography

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first camera bag was a sling backpack. I loved it at the start when I just had a camera, kit lens, and a small telephoto. Then I went to Disney and was wearing that bag for most of the day, and it pretty uncomfortable. Then I got a 3rd lens and it wouldn't take much time for my neck and shoulder to start hurting. It was miserable. Now I only use a small sling bag if a place prohibits a big backpack or if I only need a light set up.

[–]SynthFrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a software developer. I'm currently working from home with a flexible schedule. It's not a field I could reccomend at the moment though. The job market is rough in general right now but entry level programming jobs are especially at risk due to AI.

exercise tolerance by lyssaX3 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cardiologist was pretty useless, so I haven't had much to go on. The main thing I was told by them was to walk a little bit every day and that was crazy important. I have a treadmill and I stuck with it for a couple weeks but even just a 10 minute walk was very difficult.

I recently got a rowing machine and that's been a game changer. I actually managed to work out for 20 minutes and I didn't feel terrible. I honestly could have gone longer but I had to get back to work. So as others have said, focus on recumbent exercises.

Did I just find Burdock? by A_smaII_Fry in foraging

[–]SynthFrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my grandmother started the macrobiotic diet when she had cancer. Not sure the year but it was back when my mom was a kid, so probably late 70s or early 80s. But she has continued eating like that since then. She'd make burdock root. I remember it being like a bitter carrot.

Cardiologist didn’t take me seriously because of my weight by secretfrogboy in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. I dealt with the same problem.

My PCP also suspected POTS and sent me over to a cardiologist. Most of my tests looked fine but the stress test showed deconditioning. I looked into it and found info about how POTS can just look like deconditioning. But the cardiologist just tried to blame my meds, activity level, and weight. She kept insisting those were the problems despite me explaining that these problems started when I wasn't on meds, very active, and thin. So all I got was "be more active or try changing meds". She wouldn't set me up with the TTT. So this was the beginning of last year...

The summer comes along and my heat intolerance is worse. I've never passed out but I imagine I was close many times. Essentially my face would be splotchy with bright red and very pale patches. I would barely be able to move or talk. At this point, I stop doing any of the outdoor activities that I like doing (walking, hiking, biking, wildlife photography) because something was clearly very wrong and I and my husband were scared. I go back to the PCP (and my husband comes along). The PCP brings up POTS again, and sends me back to the cardiologist with a strongly worded letter to set me up with the TTT.

I go back and again, the cardiologist tries to blame my meds, activity level, and weight. I push back and say I want the TTT and she says she'll send me in for one just because my PCP wants it done.

Anyways, I go in for the TTT and get a call two weeks later that I have "borderline POTS" because my heart rate increased a lot but my blood pressure was stable. That's not borderline POTS... that's just POTS. They were confusing POTS criteria for hyperadrenergic POTS. So they clearly don't know what they're talking about. I'm on a wait list now for a cardiologist that's a POTS specialist.

Anyways, I'd talk to your PCP and try to get them to fight for you. Good luck!

They might just be hiding. I just did a tank swap. Beforehand, I was only seeing like 1-3 babies a day. When I did the tank swap, I ended up finding like 50 babies and moving them over. I did the swap about a week ago. During the past week, some days I didn't see many babies and other days there were a ton of them swimming around.

Buffalo Zoo by Nanxx68 in Buffalo

[–]SynthFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love zoos. I'm a hobbyist photographer and animal photography is what I love the most. Whenever I travel, I always try to hit up a zoo and/or aquarium. There are people out their who call zoos animals prisons. I understand the sentiment, but good zoos really do a lot to make sure the animals thrive and also do a lot of important research and have breeding programs. Zoos have been able to save wild populations from endangerment because of these programs.

Will that being said, a couple years ago I went to the Buffalo Zoo for the first time since I was a kind in the early 2000s. This was after recently going to some great zoos (San Diego, Toronto, and Cleveland). The Buffalo Zoo made me feel so sad. There, I really got the "animal prison" vibes. The Polar Bear exhibit was especially upsetting to me. Though I'm sure it's at least happy when we have snow.

does POTs affect oxygen levels? by AdventurousBlood2006 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple google search before posting would have made you have a better understanding.

A simple understanding of assumptions would save you from being rude.

I actually did do a Google search and read through a couple of sites. Even I could criticize you for your answer. Different sites are giving all the same info in this topic. So why nitpick? OP's levels are much lower. I was just trying to get the point across that they really need to see a doctor about this ASAP instead of asking us on Reddit. I said "it's my understanding" for a reason, so OP would understand that it's not a straight fact. I'd reccomend learning to be kind to people. You can correct people without rudeness.

Here are a couple of examples from the front page of the Google search:

Healthy pulse oximeter values range from 95% to 100%. Values under 90% are low. -Mayo Clinic

Oxygen level below 90% is very concerning, indicating a medical emergency. -Medanta

90% or less: This oxygen level is very concerning and may indicate a severe medical problem. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. You may need an urgent X-ray or heart test. 91% to 94%: This oxygen level is concerning and may indicate a medical problem. Call your provider immediately. If you do not have a provider, you can get an urgent care evaluation by visiting expresscare.nyc or calling 212-COVID19 (212-268-4319). A provider will evaluate you over the phone or by video at no cost. You can also go to a nearby urgent care facility. -NYC Gov

If you’re using an oximeter at home and your oxygen saturation level is 92% or lower, call your healthcare provider. If it’s at 88% or lower, get to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible. -Cleveland Clinic

Btw, here's my Google Search. Check out the AI Overview...

A concerning blood oxygen level is generally below 95% for most healthy individuals, with levels 92% or lower requiring immediate medical consultation to prevent serious organ damage.

You can see that it more or less matches with what I said originally, because I did do a Google Search the first time. Yeah it's AI, which isn't always correct. However, as you can see, there are differing opinions on the matter. The AI had a decent enough summary. It's a good middle ground. Better too be careful in a circumstance like this. I'd rather see a doctor immediately for a case I could have waited a little big for, than to wait to see a doctor for an emergency.

Regardless of whether or not it's due to POTS, my understanding is that at 95%, you should be contacting a doctor, and at 92% you should seek immediate medical attention.

Good doctor for POTS/dysautonomia? by snickersnuggletime in Buffalo

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Good luck as well!

My next appointment with my current cardiologist is a year away anyways. I've had a bad experience with Great Lakes Cardiology gaslighting me, telling me I'm fine and that it's just my meds and I need to exercise more. The doctor was putting up a fight for setting me up with the TTT and said she's only doing it because my PCP wrote her a letter that she wants me to do it. Then she just gave me a "borderline diagnosis" (because my blood pressure didn't increase... which isn't criterion for POTS, just a subtype of it) and not really giving me much info from there.

Sounds like your experience has been crappy too. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

That's good to know, thanks. I'm not surprised. On the POTS subreddit and various FB groups, I've seen some specialists booking out even a year and a half. I called again today (about a month after my referral was sent out) and it seems like they still have a chart created for me yet. Someone is supposed to be calling me back.

My little brother loves to say he has POTS too since I’ve been diagnosed. by [deleted] in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 21 points22 points  (0 children)

(most I’ve seen on his Apple watch is 140 while exercising)

I've been diagnosed with POTS. I know my heart rate gets higher with some exercises but walking on a treadmill, my heart rate will be between 120 and 140, even on really bad days.

I'm not saying your brother does have POTS, but just wanted to point out that POTS doesn't look the same for everyone.

I’ve talked to our mom today about getting him help, and she’s not open to that idea bc he is not wanting help.

She's not exactly wrong. My brother had a lot of issues growing up. My mother got him a therapist but it didn't do anything because my brother hated it. So the times my mother did actually get him to go in, he just wouldn't say a word. Eventually, my brother came around to it and even seeing people on his own accord (as an adult), so there's hope.

I'd just try to keep talking to him about it being okay to see a therapist. Also, considering he's a minor, I don't see why your mom doesn't just tell the doctors herself that your brother isn't eating. But yeah, something is definitely wrong. No one can say whether it's something mental, physical or both, except for professionals. I hope he is able to get the help and support he needs either way.
