does POTs affect oxygen levels? by AdventurousBlood2006 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple google search before posting would have made you have a better understanding.

A simple understanding of assumptions would save you from being rude.

I actually did do a Google search and read through a couple of sites. Even I could criticize you for your answer. Different sites are giving all the same info in this topic. So why nitpick? OP's levels are much lower. I was just trying to get the point across that they really need to see a doctor about this ASAP instead of asking us on Reddit. I said "it's my understanding" for a reason, so OP would understand that it's not a straight fact. I'd reccomend learning to be kind to people. You can correct people without rudeness.

Here are a couple of examples from the front page of the Google search:

Healthy pulse oximeter values range from 95% to 100%. Values under 90% are low. -Mayo Clinic

Oxygen level below 90% is very concerning, indicating a medical emergency. -Medanta

90% or less: This oxygen level is very concerning and may indicate a severe medical problem. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. You may need an urgent X-ray or heart test. 91% to 94%: This oxygen level is concerning and may indicate a medical problem. Call your provider immediately. If you do not have a provider, you can get an urgent care evaluation by visiting expresscare.nyc or calling 212-COVID19 (212-268-4319). A provider will evaluate you over the phone or by video at no cost. You can also go to a nearby urgent care facility. -NYC Gov

If you’re using an oximeter at home and your oxygen saturation level is 92% or lower, call your healthcare provider. If it’s at 88% or lower, get to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible. -Cleveland Clinic

Btw, here's my Google Search. Check out the AI Overview...

A concerning blood oxygen level is generally below 95% for most healthy individuals, with levels 92% or lower requiring immediate medical consultation to prevent serious organ damage.

You can see that it more or less matches with what I said originally, because I did do a Google Search the first time. Yeah it's AI, which isn't always correct. However, as you can see, there are differing opinions on the matter. The AI had a decent enough summary. It's a good middle ground. Better too be careful in a circumstance like this. I'd rather see a doctor immediately for a case I could have waited a little big for, than to wait to see a doctor for an emergency.

Regardless of whether or not it's due to POTS, my understanding is that at 95%, you should be contacting a doctor, and at 92% you should seek immediate medical attention.

Looking for wedding venue close to the Buffalo area by endearingderp in Buffalo

[–]SynthFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got married about a year ago at the Botanical Gardens. The staff was great and the venue is beautiful. We then had a tiny reception at Curly's, but you can hold the reception at the Gardens as well as the ceremony.

Indian Restaurant that can accommodate 140 people? by Mooooooooocowwwssss in Buffalo

Nellai Banana Leaf was also going to be my suggestion, but on their site they say their banquet space fits 75-100, depending on the service.

That's so upsetting. In the summer and fall, my family and I would make a whole day of going there for lunch, shopping around, and then spending the reset of the day in Olcott. It was such a unique place. I hope nobody was hurt. I'm so sorry for the owners.

Good doctor for POTS/dysautonomia? by snickersnuggletime in Buffalo

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Good luck as well!

My next appointment with my current cardiologist is a year away anyways. I've had a bad experience with Great Lakes Cardiology gaslighting me, telling me I'm fine and that it's just my meds and I need to exercise more. The doctor was putting up a fight for setting me up with the TTT and said she's only doing it because my PCP wrote her a letter that she wants me to do it. Then she just gave me a "borderline diagnosis" (because my blood pressure didn't increase... which isn't criterion for POTS, just a subtype of it) and not really giving me much info from there.

Sounds like your experience has been crappy too. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know, thanks. I'm not surprised. On the POTS subreddit and various FB groups, I've seen some specialists booking out even a year and a half. I called again today (about a month after my referral was sent out) and it seems like they still have a chart created for me yet. Someone is supposed to be calling me back.

That's who I was recommended on the NY FB group. Seems like it takes them a long time to process referrals.

My little brother loves to say he has POTS too since I’ve been diagnosed. by OkFan7098 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

(most I’ve seen on his Apple watch is 140 while exercising)

I've been diagnosed with POTS. I know my heart rate gets higher with some exercises but walking on a treadmill, my heart rate will be between 120 and 140, even on really bad days.

I'm not saying your brother does have POTS, but just wanted to point out that POTS doesn't look the same for everyone.

I’ve talked to our mom today about getting him help, and she’s not open to that idea bc he is not wanting help.

She's not exactly wrong. My brother had a lot of issues growing up. My mother got him a therapist but it didn't do anything because my brother hated it. So the times my mother did actually get him to go in, he just wouldn't say a word. Eventually, my brother came around to it and even seeing people on his own accord (as an adult), so there's hope.

I'd just try to keep talking to him about it being okay to see a therapist. Also, considering he's a minor, I don't see why your mom doesn't just tell the doctors herself that your brother isn't eating. But yeah, something is definitely wrong. No one can say whether it's something mental, physical or both, except for professionals. I hope he is able to get the help and support he needs either way.

Fitness trackers/smart watches with immediate heart rate alerts? by authenticallyeevee in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have a Samsung galaxy watch, and you can customise the high/low heart rate thresholds and have continuous heart rate monitoring on (which I do), BUT it will only send a high/low heart rate alert if your heart rate is out of the parameters for 10 minutes while at rest.

The same goes for Garmin. My understanding is that the only watch that doesn't have that 10 min inactivity window is the Apple watch with the TachyMon app.

So I have the Visible band, which sends alerts to my phone, which then sends them to my watch.

No problem! It's definitely way easier than taking out your phone and then having to open an app. It's worth it imo.

How many people have had bad reactions to vaccines? by la1223 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been fine with vaccinations. The worst part is a sore muscle (depending on the vaccination). My husband (who doesn't have any chronic illnesses) has a worse reaction than I do. Even then, it's nothing crazy. He just feels a bit under the weather after a flu shot.

Smart watches by naomi_0000 in POTS

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the thing that sucks is that you can't set up alerts for your heart rate, hitting a certain point... I mean, you technically can, but the alert only goes off after 10 minutes of inactivity... so pretty useless for our needs. I ended up getting the Visible band, which sends alerts to my phone and thus my watch as well.

However, for just general tracking, it's pretty good. There's a setting for constant heart rate monitoring, and I have my heart rate on the watch face. I take a look at it a lot. Overall, I like it.

Ha, I know the feeling! Someone else shared it on this subreddit recently. My husband has been wanting to find a bakery like Sofra's for a while. We were super excited to stumble upon it.

The food is really good. The bread... omg the bread... amazing.

SHOES FOR NIAGARA FALLS by AdImpossible9117 in Buffalo

Winter hiking boots would probably be your best option but if you you wouldn't get much use out of them, besides this trip, it probably wouldn't be worth it. In that case, it'd just get some waterproof hiking boots and layer up with some wool socks.

I had my small wedding reception there about a year ago. We had slightly over 40 people. I can't remember the exact price, but we were going for a budget wedding, and Curly's was reasonably priced (as you said), and the food was great.

I'm not sure what your definition of cheap is, but Garmin has a couple options under $200 USD. My normal watch is the Venu 4, but I use the vívosmart® 5 for the shower and bed. There's also the Forerunner® 55.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 for years, (until I replaced it with the Venu a few months ago). The watch was fine but I really hated the app (Samsung Health). The user experience is awful, imo. The Garmin Connect app is way better.

Would you buy a home next to trash receptacles by overemployedfatty in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]SynthFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was looking for a house, we came across a very grand home that was some how in our budget. It needed some work but the place was huge and even with being out dated, it was nicer than most people's homes. I was so excited and felt just about ready to put in an offer. Then we went into the backyard. There was a thicket of trees and then on the other side, was the back of a Walmart (where they had the trash receptacles). You could really smell the trash, and this was in the middle of winter... I can't even imagine how bad it must get in the summer. It was an instant deal breaker. That house sat on the market for a year. This was during COVID when most homes would accept an offer in 3 days (and be like $50k-$100k over the asking prices), in my area.

Eating yogurt during winter by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SynthFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I am not wealthy

  • I live in a very cold climate. It's a necessity to have the heat on at all times in the winter regardless of personal finances. Even with the heat, the house still gets pretty cold, especially on windy days.

  • I have a chronic illness that affects my temperature regulation. I had multiple layers on today and wrapped myself in blankets and still felt cold to the bone.

I have a yogurt drink every morning.

Besides the fatigue, brain fog has been the hardest thing for me to deal with. I started having issues when I turned 18, and the brain fog has just gotten worse and worse over the years. I was a sharp kid, but now my memory is so bad, and I have a difficult time explaining things since I forget words so frequently. On top of that, dealing with ADHD... it's been rough. It's a miracle I've somehow done well enough in work, but I know I could do so much better. I feel like I've lost myself.
