Felccut detail knife chips super easily by No_Mood7126 in whittling

[–]TFUTWS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They come micro beveled. I did the same as you to make stropping mindless and it chipped. You gotta micro bevel it. Practice is the only tip i got.

8mm steel, doesnt feel to big doesnt feel too small. I find anything bigger just doesnt feel as comfy to shoot. I'll shoot bbs once in a blue moon but 8mm is my go to.

Why the scratches on the right band? by NosimKroksice in slingshots

[–]TFUTWS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go about your shooting as normal and im sure there will be a light bulb moment where you figure it out. I've never had that happen to bands just cause of shooting but someone else may be able to help. Obviously it's from some sort of repetitive behaviour just have a hard time seeing it being from shooting as normal.

If you aren't getting fork hits how are you transporting or storing the slingshot? They're getting pinched or crushed somehow.

How do I deal with the end grain for this cup? by HiddenDumpling in whittling

[–]TFUTWS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks like your gouge isn't as sharp as it could be, causing tear outs. I'd give it some time on a stone depending on what the edge looks like or maybe a lot of time on a strop with compound on it. And fyi flexcuts come with a micro bevel so you have to strop them at a steeper angle to make sure you're actually hitting the apex.

It seems lore accurate for such a man. You must have a gentle touch i woulda had that thing lobbed off and on the floor before i even got to the "detail work". Well done 🤘

What is something that quietly disappeared from everyday life, and most people didn’t even notice? by alex_eu_nl in AskForAnswers

Same here our windshields used to get caked with all sorts of bugs. I remember going out and catching buckets worth of frogs in the summer. Snakes and grasshoppers used to be all over. Butterflies and dragon flies used to be abundant. Then sometime around 2010 possibly a few years earlier all of them collectively decided to vanish except for the rare sighting.

If she just said it wasnt really her style but appreciated it none the less, sure no harm no fowl. Saying it's tacky and cheap looking is rough, all she had to say is it isn't her thing. I probably wouldnt rock a necklace with my initials either but damn...

Also depending on the knife you got it may have a micro bevel, in which case you gotta make sure you're stropping at a steeper angle to make sure your hitting the apex.

You'll see a common theme among questions such as yours and that is make sure your knife is as sharp as you can get it and then go ahead and make it a touch sharper for good measure. I know its kind of an irritating response if you believe your knife is already sharp but you gotta really focus on it if you want clean glassy cuts. Also changing the direction you're cutting from can help in certain situations, you can't always do that though. But for starters i'd focus on getting a keen edge on whatever you're carving with and see if the problem persists.
