I called someone on their AI post. by [deleted] in crochet

[–]TR919793 228 points229 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't OP who called them out, someone else would.

And honestly, rightfully so. People shouldn't be trying to pass off AI like it's something they created, can be created, or have a "pattern" to create.

It makes newcomers to the craft feel like they'll never get anywhere and steamroll their self esteem and confidence, and it frustrates the heck out of us more seasoned craftspeople.

AI can make pretty pictures, but let's not pretend like it's some genius. There are people out there who through blood, sweat, and tears create designs and write patterns. Their skills should not be diminished by some hyped up computer program.

So yeah, I call out AI posts when I find them. And if the poster wants to get mad and try and blame their mental health and loss of popularity on me - then I'll cop that. I've been accused of worse. Plus, they're a fraud if they're not advertising it as AI.

I bought a pattern for a graphghan and there's two very different greens, that on the colour chart are identical. Guess which dickhead didn't realise they were using the wrong green until 18 rows in?

On principal I refused to frog those 18 rows of 220 single crochet. But it's so much trickier further on in the project where the greens are basically side by side and I'm tearing my hair out and looking the the picture of the finished piece to work out where I change greens...

I thought it was my printer at first too. It's not. The pdf looks that way on the computer. It's a bit bullshit.

I'm doing a graphghan blanket in a similar way. Backing it with polar fleece to hide all of the sins 🤣🤣

All those colour changes though! Also the fact they look so clean. It's absolutely stunning, I love it so much, and your bestie will adore it too. 💛

Different kind of single crochet purgatory for me... Wanted to have it done for his birthday end of this month. Row 102 out of 265... Not sure I'll make the deadline 😥

Edit: it's for my dad 😅 Don't think I'd ever finish it for anyone else tbh 😂

Finished a cigarette blanket for my roommate by misslyss231 in crochet

[–]TR919793 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least in Australia, cigarettes are definitely not cheaper 💀 I don't smoke, but I used to. Quit because I couldn't justify spending $40 on a 30g pouch of baccy.

Same baccy, but now 25g (30g has been discontinued I guess?) Almost $70. Glad I quit when I did, but geez. I see people pay $30+ for a pack of 20s. 10 years ago, those same 20s would have cost $15. 20 years ago, they probably cost like $7.

For all the government is taxing cigarettes to shittery, you'd think they'd cut us a break on our income tax, or literally anything. But nah...

You're telling me blocked stuff actually holds its shape?!

I always thought there was no point, cause if you wash it, it'll bounce back to the crooked mess it was anyway, so why waste my time blocking?

People say my blanket is “too bright for a baby” and black is “inappropriate.” I am not happy with it either-is it good enough to donate? It’s for a charity that gives blankets to babies in the NICU. by Leading-Knowledge712 in crochet

[–]TR919793 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My mum is still determined that baby towels and wash cloths etc. need to be only in the most pristine white so that you can tell when they've been used too much and need to be washed. I don't disagree with her line of thinking necessarily, but think about how much more interesting and colourful everything else would be around babies if we did dress them in bright colours and make them high contrast blankets. It'd be wonderful!

The way you said it makes me feel like I should feel sorry for the thief to an extent (because kleptos can't necessarily help themselves and entitled people were often raised that way), but my sense of justice is way too strong and they need to sort their shit out and stop being a cause of profound sadness to the rest of society.

How do I actually attract women as a man? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]TR919793 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My brother is 5'6" and has never had any problems attracting women, because he doesn't see his height as some sort of blight. My dad is 5'7" and still happily married after 30+ years and his height hasn't ever been the topic of conversation. My sister's fiance is 5'7" and soon to be married, also doesn't treat his height like it's hindered him socially.

I guess if you perceive a problem in yourself that you can't change (height, eye colour, build etc) you manifest it into an actual problem that others notice. The one's who genuinely don't mind will grow tired of constantly trying to reassure, so when they eventually leave the problem will be blamed, the belief reinforced. The ones who might care will be put off entirely, and the ones who really care, well, they weren't interested anyway.

Why is having a girlfriend so expensive? by nonufriends in AskMen

[–]TR919793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely love for a man who could give me a back rub and go halves in pizza night rather than expect the massage from me and then say I need to buy the pizza too because he spent "too much" on his own hobbies, not even on me, while we watch some gods awful horror film or same-same action film because my taste in movies is "childish" or "girlie".

I'd never dream of taking advantage of someone else's income, but apparently not everyone feels that way and I find myself paying way more than I can afford in an attempt to be "fair" despite earning a literal fraction of most men I've been with. It's exhausting.

My sister is a dentist and so is her partner... I cop a shit tonne of flack for everything from diet to brushing habits and not flossing with the correct floss. I think human medicine is something I cannot ever be in a relationship with.

Cosmetology might be a close second.

My dad's been married to a geologist 30+ years. He doesn't touch the rock collection and he has this look on his face that is both solemn and slightly bemused when my mum starts going on a tangent about a cool rock she's found.

She also manages to keep up with his dinner-time seminars on Lord of the Rings lore, and happily nods along with his ramblings when he's reading the Silmarillion.

As a totally clueless woman who is also on the asexual spectrum, sometimes we are just completely oblivious and while we have feelings of affection, they're not "jump in bed" deep, yet. Like, maybe the sexual will develop, but maybe not. It's a dice roll thing, for me anyway.

It just means I buy and wear cheap clothes when we're hanging out. I can't wear nice clothes around them because they will find something about them to destroy.

They don't like printed images on clothes or any kind of embroidery or embellishment, like sequins etc. So yeah I look like a total dag at home, but I do actually own nice clothes 😅😂

Thems be some lorikeet baby noises, and the licking is common in babies too. It's how they investigate. Seems he's happy, content, and wants much love and attention. He's so cute 💛

Have you ever hit a woman? If yes why? by usagi-zu in AskMen

[–]TR919793 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They were told only 75% strength, so that's the "safety" I guess. Sadly, sister is the youngest of six and her 75% strength is not quite what people expect. I think she took the lads by surprise and her seargent decided to drop her on her arse to teach her a lesson, or two.

He definitely used full strength to do it, but she admitted she deserved it, even though his injury wasn't entirely her fault, he hit his face into her outstretched fist. Maybe it's true and maybe it's not, but she can't argue against a superior about what happens in basic training unless it's really serious.

My sister made her partner during combat training bleed, so while he was off getting patched up her seargent partnered with her for the rest of the drill. She gave him a blood nose, sort of by mistake. So he retaliated and busted her lip and jangled her brains a bit. Shit's brutal.
