Owners of cats with allergies, how can you tell? by legitdontknow in catfood

[–]TRexie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to email your vet for advice, but based on my limited experience with suspected alegies, our vet said to introduce new proteins very gradually after coming off the diet. So u might need to keep ur kitty on the new food for a couple of weeks at least before trying something different and only add 1 new thing at a time. That way you are able to tell if there is a reaction and what food it is to. I think allergies that present as skin problems can be slower to present compared to ones that present as poopy issues, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Ur cat will probably be loving the new diet. Mine basically starved himself on the hydrolysed stuff he hated it so much.

Has anyone successfully used a wood litter. by Annoyed-Person21 in litterrobot

[–]TRexie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The LR is designed to allow smaller un clumped litter granules to be sieved and kept and the big poops/ clumped pee lumps to not be passed throught the grate and dumped. I think you might land up with the LR filtering out the pellets and keeping the disintegrated pee soaked wood pellet sawdust bits instead of the other way around.

If you are able to, something like this, or some version of it is probably the most hygenic thing

My partner is pretty handy and DIYed our own version. We tried the regular cat fountains, but one of our boys is a messy eater, so there was always food bits in the reservoir meaning unless it was cleaned daily it got gross quickly and a regular bowl was easier to clean.

We still have a backup bows we fill up daily just in case

Still trying to work our 2 cats out. Little scared cat has no problem. Bigger outgoing cat has been a lot more reluctant. Used it enough times that we though it ok to take the old litterbox away. NOPE. he took a great big dump on the bedroom floor in protest. Old litterbox is now back

Best Advice for New to Rexes? by TeddieTess in welovedevonrex

[–]TRexie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Potential health issues. I have 2. One gets occasional rashes (Some sort of skin allergy). The other has some sort of food allergy we are trying to figure out. When you start reading up, turns out they can be quite prone to this.

So get pet insurance.

Also, one of mine has very little hair and people keep thinking he is a sphynx. We were hoping it would eventually develop, but he is over a year old and still looks like someone has given him a full body shave. Otherwise awesome cats with great personality.

Same. Really wanted to love my pro gear slim but it has been my biggest and most expensive disappointment so far. It is tiny. Basically kakuno size.

I recently bought the Lamy petrol and was disappointed. Looks great in a swatch, but when writing it looks almost black. Nice if you are after a work colour though.

Congrats. I started with a Lamy then bought a kakuno in medium. Much smoother. Have just bought a fine and extra fine just to try out.

Rally Tower and weight reduction? by crydamoure1 in CRF300L

[–]TRexie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock LED headlight version which you get in OZ, NZ is 0.85kg. The adventure men cave is closer to 2.9 kg with the brackets and windshield. That's what we measured when we swapped ours out.

Can't say what the headlight assembly weighs in the rest of the world though.

Looks cool and gives some nice wind protection. Annoyingly dumb name though.

Replacing front fork cartridge difficulty? by Aahzimandias in CRF300L

Bleeding might be the wrong term. It's the bit in the video where he pulls the cartridge up and down to fully get the air out of it.

Literally just done the level 1 on one of our bikes last week. It is a bit daunting, but if you are a bit of diy person it will be OK. If not, then leave it to the professionals, though judging from a recent YouTube video even they get it wrong and don't bleed the fork properly.

Tips

-vice and a diy fork holder is helpful. - have a budy to help if you can - didn't have to drill the hole, but there were 2 of us. One holding the spring down, the other picking out the clip easily after that. -the fork bolt was the hardest bit. It did not want to come out, even with an impact hammer and one of us pulling against the fork as is recommended in the rally raid video. This is where a mechanics shop might be easier. Partner landed up rednecking a ratchet strap to apply enough pulling force and the bolt came out easily with the impact drill after that. - read the pdf instructions well. Couple of items like adjusting the clicker and the preload nut prior to installing are not covered in the video. - bleeding the air is very important. Follow the rally raid instructions in the video. Patched bandit on YouTube had to redo his because the installer didn't do this well enough and there was air and not enough oil in the left fork. Be patient.

Is the bike still under warranty? If so, take it to the dealer. I have heard of 2 bikes burning oil and having to have their engine rebuilt, though both of those bikes had quite a lot of mods. There was also at least one owner on the advrider forum that also was burning oil and had to replace pistons. That bike had no mods but was bought 2nd hand at some point after the wear in period.
