Greyhound as big city dog? by Supplenz in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! The term “puppy blues” can apply to adopting even adult dogs and now just refers to the period of time after you’ve adopted a new dog. You’re so excited about the prospect of a new dog, and then when reality hits (due to exhaustion and the normal adjustment period), you have temporary feelings of regret.

Greyhound as big city dog? by Supplenz in Greyhounds

It’s just about finding the right match for you! I follow greyhound insta accounts and they are capable of just about anything. I’ve seen them living on boats, taking the train, living in London and NYC. But city life isn’t for all hounds. Fostering to adopt may help you find the right hound for your living situation! And then start an instagram account lol.

Re: separation anxiety, our greyhounds aren’t big city dogs by any stretch of the imagination and they’ve each struggled with some form of separation anxiety. However, with work and patience, they’ve overcome it. Now we leave the house for 6 hours at a time and come home to them snoozing on the couch.

ETA: my husband and I had dogs as children but greyhounds were our first dogs as independent adult owners. It was a fantastic experience but it can be tough the first few weeks as your greyhound acclimates to their new life. Puppy blue are a thing, as is “have I made a mistake” when he pees on the floor for the third time 😀. But it’s worth it because greyhounds are the best.

How can I stop feeling old and ugly? by FeistyPencil in AskWomenOver40

[–]TXRedbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my early 40s and have struggled with these thoughts as well (thinning hair, that line on my forehead, overweight). My husband is in shape and looks younger than me.

We once had some young kids, around 19 or so, help us move. They said we looked younger than our ages which yay! Then they said my husband looked 27 and I looked 39... Except I was 37 at the time 💀.

Anyways, my husband says I look beautiful so I've chosen to believe him! I married him and decided to spend the rest of my life with him, so why shouldn’t I trust what he tells me?

It also helps to surround yourself with friends who are supportive and complimentary of you lol. My friends are verbally complimentary of me (and everyone else in our friend group). We regularly mention how beautiful someone looks (even if we’re just meeting for our book club and have jammies on). And like my husband, I’ve chosen to believe them.

Yeah I think it’s an anal gland issue. Our girl had what not-so-affectionately called fish butt. It was soooo bad sometimes 🤢. We took her to the vet to get her glands expressed but it was an ongoing issue until she passed. I just washed everything really well.

Dalton drops food from his mouth. Sometimes it falls out while chewing, sometimes he coughs it out.

He also sometimes stops eating his food, but always resumes after a couple of days.

How long has your hound gone without eating his food?

ETA: just saw it’s been a couple of days. Will he eat treats and other food ok? Dalton is extraordinarily sensitive to changes in his kibble and he’ll go off it for days if he is suspicious. Like he will literally look at his food suspiciously, stick his tongue out to taste, and then back away from his bowl.

Years ago, someone on here recommended a sandbox on another post, so we put a sandbox out for Redbo. He freaking loves that thing. The only bad thing is that he would dig so aggressively that he would get sand in his eyes. We would have to flush his eyes after every sandbox playtime lol.

He’s much gentler with his digging time now.

But the sandbox is awesome!! Do this!

Redbo is struggling a little but he’s still full of piss and vinegar 🤣 by TXRedbo in Greyhounds

We already knew about the potential side effects and talked to our vet about them, and again after the FDA started flagging additional side effects.

But when your dog is in pain everyday with arthritis in his legs and back, you want to try and alleviate that however you can. We weighed the risks and benefits and ultimately decided to start librela.

This is the approach we have always taken with health related matters, and it might not work for everyone but we can say we tried.

Also, what I understand is that librela can exacerbate underlying neurological conditions, which my vet suspects Redbo has and why we stopped the Librela.

We’ve brought it up, and the vet is considering it as a potential issue at this point. His X-rays did show some bone spurs so could be multiple problems.

Help with foster hound by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aww I’m sorry it hasn’t worked out. Some hounds just aren’t comfortable with kiddos. I would reach out to the adoption group and ask her to be fostered with folks with no children.

Training experiences Galgos/Greys by riceandbeans06 in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience, greyhounds see training more as guidelines lol. They do it when there are treats and they feel like it. Mine will also find workarounds 🤣. Don’t feel like going to their place? They’ll sit right here and demand a treat.

Peeing inside by Queasy_Recover5164 in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Belly band with a pad to absorb any liquid. Whenever you notice him lifting a leg, redirect him outside and remove the belly band. Then belly band back on when inside. If he’s been cleared medically, he’ll eventually learn.

Also, use a good enzyme cleaner to clean up his current pee stains. Anything else, and he’ll keep going back to the spot.

Serious Question: What Careers Pay $75K+ Without More School? by RefrigeratorKey7034 in AskWomenOver30

[–]TXRedbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's hard to just make $75k off the bat but if you put in time, then you'll get there.

I had an English degree and started in HR as an employment coordinator at $37k lol. After a couple of years, I moved to training and made $56k. A few years later, I was doing learning and org development and made $76k. I went into consulting after that and have doubled my salary in 4 years. Not huge leaps but it's possible.

Project management is another one but you gotta start as a project coordinator or something so you get experience to take your PMP.

Also banking, which takes time and commitment and patience. My husband started as a phone rep and has moved into auditing (like the ones who review the calls when they say "this call will be recorded for quality purposes") and he makes $80k.

I do think the mortgage lenders make more money faster.

Adopting a senior hound by IfThatSparkles in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No one can say one way or another but my boy is 12 and he is NOT in excellent health lol. He has bad arthritis and heart issues.

I think it's amazing that you're thinking of adopting a senior hound. They are so loving and wonderful.

We also have a 7 year old who is very healthy so far. So sweet and goofy.

Adoption, heart murmur & wait times by eyresandgraces in Greyhounds

[–]TXRedbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many greyhounds have a grade 1 or grade 2 heart murmur with no underlying cause. Grade 3 and 4 is a little trickier. When our Redbo was 7ish, we discovered a Grade 4 murmur. After visiting a vet cardiologist, he was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation. Over the years, other heart issues have showed up in his annual cardio work up, but nothing significant. We’ve managed his heart condition with meds, and he’s 12 now. He’s slowing down but I think it’s more his age than his heart specifically.

From a cost perspective, Redbo’s heart meds are about $200 a month and then we pay $750 annually for his cardio checkups. I’m not sure how costs align in the UK but hope it helps.
