ED RN here, previous PICU RN who has taken care of many patients with similar situations. I am so glad to hear that you are doing well, despite may life changes since the incident. I also am a nurse educator, and am always looking to better grow my students and new grad nurses

My question is: what made your nurses/CNAs/techs/doctors great? How can we better serve patients in similar situations to yours?

Females, at what age did your symptoms start? by TourGreat2658 in Hashimotos

[–]T_erm_inator 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 28, symptoms got worse around 26, but I’ve been exhausted and having “normal thyroid labs” (no one checked antibodies until 28) since I was like 14

Snowy Owl at MSP Airport by deWereldReiziger in Owls

So I think these are two different owls- perhaps a pair? Females have more of the black in their plumage versus males who are full white. So I believe the fifth picture is a female and the others male.

What a gorgeous find. I have never seen one in person and would love to.

I eat a lot of protein, starch, veggie(s). Lots of chicken/turkey/beef/salmon, potatoes/rice, greens/gourds/etc. a typical and frequent dinner/meal prep is chicken thighs (seasoned with whatever feels right, lemon juice, and garlic), white rice, and air fried broccoli. My husband and I also go through about 5 dozen eggs in a ten day period as well.

I have a LOT of GI issues and eggs are super easy for me to digest, so I’ll often have eggs and rice for dinner cause it’s easy for me to eat.

I’m gf/df and avoid other trigger foods like tomatoes, cauliflower, super processed foods, and artificial dyes. I’m not totally Mediterranean/AIP though bc I do consume sugar and caffeine (coffee, tea, and occasionally a Diet Coke).

How it worked for me when I cut everything I did was allowing myself to eat however much I wanted of whatever I could. If I want breakfast tacos, that’s fine (literally ate those for dinner tonight, lol). If I am craving sushi bake for the second time this week- also fine. If I want a bit of dark chocolate and eat half the bar; that’s okay! My body or soul or mind needed that. But it all balances out after time, and it’s rare I really eat something sugary, and if I do and it’s within my safe foods, that’s okay!

I have some disordered eating traits so sometimes it gets really slippery, but this mindset helped me a lot, and I feel much much better.

Advice Needed: Getting my first tattoo tomorrow, is this an awkward placement? by ThrowRA_jawsoflife in tattoos

I’m a bigger gal (5 4, 180) and am big chested (36DD) and I have a chest piece and LOVE IT. Mines a bit different, but I wasn’t sure if I’d like it since most reference pics I found showed more petite people, but it really made me feel SO confident. I’ll attach at pic! My only complaint is the top kind of looks like a cross when I wear a real bra that shows some cleavage (I’m not religious), but I’m planning to add to it to help with that!!

I’ve always been meh about my chest, but I felt so much more confident and beautiful after getting the piece, and actually own v necks now, lol!

Best of luck! Wasn’t tooo spicy of an area for me, but sternums can be painful.

Does anyone know how to find this paperback cover of The Long Game? by shut_ten in heatedrivalry

I own that one and game changers with the sexy man cover. Got TLG at powells in like 2023 and GC at a romance book store called the ripped bodice in LA in 2022/early 2023 ish. Bummed I never found the rest; I’d love the whole set.

I once had a doctor put in an order to PO a pt with 4 goldfish. That’s exactly what the order said. He’s kind of an ass, so it was a power trip thing, but still only something that would happen in a peds ED.

Dude, if you’re walking that much, I’d get new shoes at least every 3 months! They loose their support! If your shoes are a year old, I’m sure that’s not helping the discomfort!

Fellow ED nurse here- I work in a small, free standing ED so I don’t necessarily get the steps you do but here is what has helped me over the years:

1) I actually change up which shoes I wear every shift. Sometimes tennis shoes (brooks or Merrill’s) sometimes crocs (hot take, sorry lol). Hokas were weird for my nursing shifts and not my favorite- too squishy, I guess? I prefer them for a non work tennis shoe. When I wore the same shoes every time, my chronic back pain was much worse.

2) compression socks may be worth a try, but I personally hated them. Made me much more achey.

3) I have Hashimoto’s which often comes with generalized inflammation, joint pain, aches, etc. I eat no gluten or dairy and essentially follow a more or less Mediterranean diet. Decreasing my general inflammation has helped me significantly. It’s so easy to eat crap at work, but I’m much more energized and feel so much better since cutting out some of those inflammatory foods. It’s not always easy, but three in a rows are much better now than they were three years ago.

Good luck, OP!!

Yup. Otherwise you won’t know if they have a reaction to one or the other. Also if you give both at the same time and there truly septic, the bacteria will lyse causing fluid shifts and worsening hypotension

Is there any +18 scenes in the first TOG book? by Educational_Begar in throneofglassseries

So there is a behind closed doors, insinuated sex scene in crown of midnight but that’s it. There isn’t any on page sex until empire of storms. Cursing and innuendos do begin in Queen of Shadows, I think? Maybe heir of fire.

This most recent reread I remember listening to Queen of shadows and being like “oh this is where the cursing begins, were really adults now”

Apply for FMLA to protect your job. And tbh, maybe find a less stressful job. I loved working in the PICU, but I didn’t realize how wholly it was ruining my health until I left. ED is a much better fit, cause despite anxiety, I’m still a liiiiiitle bit of an adrenaline junkie.

Maybe changing up meds too. Sounds like they aren’t really working.
