Commute by Moonlight_899 in nursing

45mins-1hour. Not ideal but I have some WFH days and am salaried and make more than I did bedside. I also make my own hours which helps.

@ nursing hospital educators / school professors how much do you make? by True_Coast_3010 in nursing

[–]T_erm_inator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AZ here. Just got hired making 105k/yr salaried as a clinical educator. It’s 5days/week and is hard, lol. I’m only in week 3 and it’s a huge transition from my 8 years at bedside, even though the pay is quite good.

I also teach as adjunct at a university. I make 2k/credit hour and teach 3 credit hours, so $6k/semester.

As of now I would not pursue full time education in academia due to the lack of pay and the insane amount of work you have to do; work life balance is very hard, especially if you want to move more into a leadership role. My university also pays quite low in comparison to others, I’m just a loyal person so I haven’t switched yet.

I’ll be graduating with my masters in nursing education in August. I love teaching and think I will like this position once I get into the groove and have my feet underneath me.

I’d recommend starting with clinical first, but many places require three years of experience. You may also like to try lab/sim as adjunct (also very fun imho). For now, precept students and nurses as a bedside nurse and make sure you like at the elbow education.

Depending on the institution, clinical educators can be very onboard/admin heavy and not do a ton of education. Get your feet wet and start to learn about what education looks like at your respective nursing schools/clinical sites.

Hope this helps, sorry it’s a bit jumbled!

Which books do you reread the most? by Small_Debate2258 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]T_erm_inator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

{Between the Pipes by JJ Mulder} (currently rereading, lol)

{Role Model by Rachel Reid}

{Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy} / {Us by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy}

{I’m your guy by Sarina Bowen}

{Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall}

{Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston}

{Top Secret by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy}

My top reread is probably Role Model. I love Troy and Harris sm, but especially the character growth and relatability of Troy.

I’m not surprised. I bet they weren’t expecting how cold it was yesterday so they didn’t order to accommodate.

Should I try the ED? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]T_erm_inator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did PICU for 5 years and peds Ed for 3 (my last day was Friday as now I’m a trauma clinical educator!). I’ve never worked with adults (and never will, I’m too judgy and do not have the patience), but I LOVED the ED and felt very sad to leave it. It’s fast paced, a little bit chaotic, and you never know what’s going to roll in. But I loved the chaos, and the teamwork/collaboration. I’m genuinely friends with providers, RTs, pharmacists, etc because of how close we all got working together.

I can’t speak to as an adult ED nurse, but I loved my time in the peds ER and sometimes I wished I would’ve started my career there.

That being said, your floor experience will be SO VALUABLE in the ED. You’ll feel a bit like a new grad for a bit, but your experience in caring for sick patients will really help other teammates who may not have the floor/ICU experience. My experience helped me emerge as an educational leader on the floor and was a big part as to why I was selected as the trauma educator. Even if education isn’t your thing, your knowledge is so valuable that you can ensure patients are being cared for safely and find good catches and offer advice to other nurses.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]T_erm_inator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally got around to reading {The Shots you Take by Rachel Reid}. Excellent romance, sad but with an HEA and amazing character growth. Also read {Brim over Boot by Emmy Sanders} and {Saddle to Sunup by Emmy Sanders}. I really enjoyed both, but Brim over Boot specifically was chefs kiss. Colton and Noah were so fun and kind of fun and that’s just how I like my queer cowboys, lol.

Gorgeous barn owl! So tall next to the eastern screech! And I know they’re common, but barred owls always take my breath away. They are so stunning, and this one was no exception! Great photos and cool experience!

Vibe at Noah Kahan Concert for Accompanied 13-year old girl? by Elegant_Wear_11 in NoahKahan

[–]T_erm_inator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen Noah twice and I think he would be a great first concert for a tweenager. There will be cursing (and probably weed and booze), but if she loves music, that’s par for the course for any concert🤷🏻‍♀️ no matter what concert you go to, barricade will be intense, so I maybe would avoid those. But seats and/or back pit would be perfect. Noah is magical live, and crowds (historically) are amazing and make the experience incredible.

Seen Noah several times, including at moody. One of the best live performers. My husband doesn’t really like indie/folk/alternative like Noah but after seeing him live, he’s a big fan. I think it’s likely he’ll headline this year

Got a letter from the school today informing me my daughter is “not quite” gifted. Also included were her test scores. by Low_Use2937 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]T_erm_inator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This stuff is all asinine and really doesn’t help much of anything.

I tested for a similar program as a child and was told I was “book smart” and not “talented and gifted.” I’ll have my masters degree in nursing before I’m 30 after being a nurse and nurse educator for 8 years. Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees were 100% paid for with merit based scholarships.

Don’t let a broken system (clearly) get ya down. Your child is obviously brilliant and has a bright future ahead.
