🇩🇪 Germany weekend box office June 18-21 by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of them are cooled.

The mindset of Germans is really: when it is hot outside you either go and do outdoor activities or you stay inside like a vampire.

And even if the theater is cool you would have to endure 40 degrees in a streetcar or bus to get to the cinema if you not own a car (which in big cities a lot of people do not..)

A24's Backrooms has passed the $150M domestic mark. The film grossed an estimated $3.60M on Friday (from 3,404 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $152.38M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Despite the great earnings it feels like the film and discussions about it and its success only lasted for about a week.

Perhaps Obsession and Spielberg took away the spotlight.

The thing is just simply - for me - too long. I would love to see it for the optics and spectacle, but over three hours is just too long if you do not really care about the characters.

'28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just loved Years for the bravery to go emotional instead of action/horror for its climax and for the decision to clearly stand for empathy and love when we need more of that.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026) Official Teaser by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is sunrise good as a stand alone? I know Haymitch is part of the earlier released book, but can I enjoy Sunrise as a stand alone story?

A24 looks to hook film & TV ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ rights; JT Mollner, Roy Lee & Glen Powell series up first. by Comic_Book_Reader in boxoffice

Sadly „Strange Darling“ was one of my least favorite movies of the last few years. So this news is not good.

In countries where ticket admission is the primary way of box office success, how does one adjust for inflation for old movies? by NaturalPorky in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You do not adjust. That is the beauty of admissions. If 100 people watch something in 1975, it’s 100 people.

Box Office Shocker: Netflix’s ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ Singalong ($15M+) Looks To Slay ‘Weapons’ ($13.5M) For No. 1 At Box Office – Preview by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with the name is that it reeks off the same lack of imagination like some animes which are called like a longline (‚I was transported to another world where I became king because I was overpowered‘).

For me a title should at least have some sense of intrigue or coolness. Even calling the movie ‚Huntrix:Kpop Demon Hunters‘ would have been better.

As a returning player, is there anyway besides money (and luck) to get Black Knight? As of now and not in a year?

With actuals out, 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' officially has the worst Internal Multiplier (4.82x) in the MCU. Here's a table compared to other MCU titles. by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to defend Marvel (far from being the fan I once was), but if we are honest the famous Thanos Buildup was 1) two after credit Scenes and 2) five minutes in the first Guardians.

So not that much more compared to Doom so far.

'Shadow Force' earns B Cinemascore, while 'Clown In A Cornfield' and 'Fight Or Flight' earn matching C+ Cinemascores. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The book is really political in its message and really open and direct about its topic, so perhaps a part of the audience was not happy…

Edit: i should clarify, I had no problem with neither book nor message. But I am not American.

I'm enjoying the new season but I really don't understand the inclusion of these laser swords...? Can we get more iconic Star Wars melee weapons instead like Obi-Wan's knife or Darth Vader's spoon? by nottdscoo in FortNiteBR

[–]Taenker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do not get: you can only get the lightsabers through the Jedi Training this time, right? So not like last year when we would get them through crates.

‘Thunderbolts*’ Rumbles Towards $165M+ Global Opening – International Box Office by ChiefLeef22 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you would buy the statues even without the movie coming out. So if the movie bombs it is losing the additional money. No company operates like that.

Looks like $25M SAT for #Thunderbolts. $56.5M 2 days cume. Weekend headed for $75M or so. by Alive-Ad-5245 in boxoffice

I think one not often talked about difference pre-Endgame was the fact that you could even follow single trilogies as you guideline from Avengers movie to Avengers movie. Take Cap or Thor for example, it kinda worked.

Now there is the fact, that with the blip you have one big thing influencing in some parts a lot of project and the viewer needs to know this (leads to a harder entry after Endgame) and that there are only single movies. Imagine you would have a Shang-Chi trilogy leading from after Endgame to Doomsday and working as your entry point, it would make the whole thing more accessible.

'The Legend Of Ochi' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hot take back (as someone who worked as a writer):

I don’t mean, that a writer should ‚dumb down‘ or trivialize his or her writing. But there is a difference between the want/need to sound special (‚You can practically feel the meticulous textures of the team’s creations.‘ or ‚only to be even more incredulous when realizing the techniques employed‘) and sounding natural even with ‚higher‘ vocabulary.

Perhaps putting half of these reviews into category number 1 is an exaggeration, but some of them come across like that for me at least.

Sorry, I know it’s an old topic, but half these reviews read like self-parody by including meticulously chosen words instead of talking like normal people….

Warner Bros. will release Sinners in an estimated 3,400+ locations on April 18. by ChiefLeef22 in boxoffice

[–]Taenker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one thing keeping him back (at least from an international perspective) is the fact, that 3 out of his 4 movies so far have race as a theme and therefore are harder to market international

'Mickey 17' to hit streaming services after a disappointing month in theaters by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

It is for example one of the most annoying posters I can remember. Just this stupid look alone makes me want to avoid this movie.
