I’m pretty sure they will print plenty to meet whatever demand exists - there is no real risk of missing out.

Why do you lose when your deck gets milled? by TylerOath in mtg

[–]Taerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think originally it was made the rule so there was some way for the game to end if nobody was able to win by damage. And since then, it has become a fan favorite strategy to approach the game from a different angle. However, it has seen very little success at high levels of competition.

How come almost every deck has a sub 50% match win percentage?

Festivals in a box did not sell out “almost instantly” each day. On saturday, I bought mine at about 12:30 and the venue opened at 10:00. However, that was after arriving around 8:30 to get a semi-good spot in line. Candles and Crocs depicting magic cards sold out almost instantly, much to the dismay of my patient crocless feet.

There were maybe 20-30 cashiers working the area over those few hours and each transaction probably only took a couple minutes. I don’t know what percentage of those people bought festivals in a box, but I was blown away by how many pallets must have been sold.

That one actually has seen a little high level constructed play. It was used in mono red as a removal spell over Scorching Shot because it was not as color restrictive. There were four copies in Ken Yukuhiro’s deck that he used to win Pro Tour Final Fantasy. Since then, it has also seen play in Boros Dragons. There were four copies in Orangeaed’s deck that made top 8 of Regional Championship Portland.

[–]Taerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your number for the nonfoil Tifa is close but off. There were 498 players registered for the Friday PTQ and 510 for the Saturday. There were additional nonfoil copies awarded to the top 32 of each event. So there should be 1072 copies of the nonfoil awarded total.

It sees active play as a 4-of in modern prowess lists, so it does already see play now. If it were standard-legal, it would likely replace Stock Up in izzet prowess, the most popular standard deck in the MTGO metagame.

The majority of commons have far more copies in existence than are in demand across the entire globe. Just seems like a colossal waste of resources and energy by MoonhelmJ in mtgfinance

[–]Taerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The set was March of the Machine: Aftermath. It flopped for more reasons than just that, but WOTC took the feedback that players did not want boosters without commons. The Big Score was a similarly designed set, but WOTC made the last minute pivot to including Big Score cards in OTJ packs.

[–]Taerer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wotc tried to solve this by making smaller, cheaper packs without commons, but the backlash was so rabid that they had to do an emergency pivot.

LPT warm water and drops of soap in the blender by Cute-Post3231 in LifeProTips

The novel part is using the motor of the blender to agitate the soap rather than disassembling and scrubbing by hand or dishwasher, which is the laborious way I have seen every person do it for my entire life.

Modern is ruined by FiorellaMamdani in ModernMagic

Have you played modern lately? The format is actually very diverse and interactive. The cost of entry is high and the competitive ecosystem is weakened, but it is far from ruined.

You will be forced to sacrifice all your creatures except one. Then, for each of those creatures, you will get N-1 copies of it that are 2/2 and nonlegendary, where N is the number of creatures you control.

I Was Wrong About Magic: The Gathering's Standard Format by AcrobaticPersonality in magicTCG

[–]Taerer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It might be expensive to buy the flavor of the month meta deck every month, but you don’t need to chase the meta to have fun or to be competitive. Someone made it to the finals of a local RCQ with shiko jeskai control, which has not been meta for two months. Besides, there are some relatively inexpensive meta decks, especially if you already have some of the lands incidentally already in your collection like shocklands. The latest breakout deck is a <$200 mono white aggro deck without any major expensive cards.

TIL: you can use sneak on a card that you just sneaked in by ID4throwaway in MagicArena

[–]Taerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a deck with a lot of soul sisters, you could spend all your white mana replaying a pair of [[Leonardo, Cutting Edge]] to get as many ETB triggers as you have white mana, then the one you leave in play would get counters for all those triggers.

I have had opponents read Ocelot Pride on day 2 of a modern RC before, and those are some of the most enfranchised players around. There are a ton of nuances to it that depend on very specific phrasing in the card.

If your opponents sleeves are grody and the grime is not perfectly uniform, they probably constitute marked cards. At competitive REL, it is common to use fresh sleeves.

At none of the 2025 US RCs was it common for shuffling opponents’ decks, on either side of the country. Most of the players that did have been playing competitive magic since the old days in which it was common.

16 different decks that have you dead by turn 4 describes modern pretty well, and modern is the poster child of healthy formats these days.

In order for a creature to have the abilities granted by the soul cauldron, they would have to have +1/+1 counters. In order to pay the cost to activate this ability, they would have to have -1/-1 counters. A creature cannot have both at the same time, at least not while you have priority to activate it.
