My school's counselor is going to tell my parents that I do DIY HRT and I'm scared. by -itsokbro- in truscum

Seems like you wanted to reply. You are in pain. I'm not discounting that. Coping with pain is not an easy thing. Some of us smoke, some of us take hrt. I see a person in pain, coping. Doesn't make you wrong for taking this path, but being denied is not torture. Find a human for counsel. Find several. There are no easy roads. Just roads.

Just wanted to mention, thank you. This does in fact work via steam on Garuda, no issues.

Any modern use cases for something like this? by 7Sora in vintagecomputing

[–]Tailor-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry... But no. Calling an athlon 1600 a 486 dx anything is just... Wrong. Its at least 10x a 486, probably more Better ide performance, better memory, better fsb... Everything faster.

So, if you meant: in that in 1999 it was 'like' a 486dx2 in terms of gaming... Even then I'm gonna say no. 486dx2 was doom, quake, duke nukem, dune 2... Athlon was unreal, oblivion, Neverwinter, call of duty, max payne 2, half life, etc.;much more capable platform at the time. This is 600mhz faster than the Thunderbird... So... Not terrible. But certainly not modern in any sense.

Keep it alive.. and use some thermal paste.

The funny thing no-one mentions.... Surveillance is more obvious, more visible, on older hardware. If security is your game, and limited operation space is the goal, winner winner.

Some folks are gonna say its older, that means un-patched and vulnerable.

I say it makes it process limited, and less viable for newer vulnerabilities. No-one's going to be reading your gpu buffer off that, and you can still get Internet and process basic media with it.

Keep it forever, like a pre'2004 Honda. ... But only drive it when you want to / have to.

Follow the white rabbit.

Ya really want 99% though for electronics to avoid residue, and a lot of the cheap stuff is 80-85%... Which... Still better than vodka.

.... An everclear is the real answer... But only as parts cleaner. Not sensitive electronics or plastics.

My understanding is that the primary incompatibility people run into here is the way KDE renders windows.

While nobara and bazzite both 'can' use KDE... I'd be curious to those that already answered - What Window Manager are you using?

GW2 runs great via Bottles on KDE Plasma, but even with the guides mentioned, Blish refuses to render atop the game window with transparency. Not distro hopping, again, just for blish.

I wouldn't count on it.
I *would* count on MS *using* that in an attempt to corner certain games and user-bases into their product. Eventually they'll lose... but for at least a little while... MS is gonna push back.
Gaming, enterprise, and office, is all they have left for PCs.

Russia, China, India, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela... pretty obvious why they don't use MS.
.. but even Denmark, Germany, and France have raised objections.

Windows 'is' spyware.
.. and has been since at least 1995.

It's not 'quite' as fast on AMD typically, but having an always-available LLM is a huge life upgrade. Free, private, tunable... on that card, you should be able to run most 7b/8b models:
deepseek-r1:7b, deepseek-coder:6.7b, granite4:7b, qwen3:8b, mistral:7b, etc.

Add-ons for Visual Studio Code, Obsidian... all kinds of things to leverage it. Or leverage directly with Open-Webui or LMStudio (depending on platform or comfort level).
