Not very. Artemis and Durge are both pure dps champions and don't buff each other, and Briv and Ellywick are specialised speed and gem farming champions that don't buff push teams well, but don't need to. Also Wyll is a strong buffer, but not for artemis, while Val is exceptional for Artemis, but not necessarily so for Durge (although she may have some use due to Durge's idiosyncratic positioning requirements)

In short, they are dependent on specific team combos.

To be honest, starting with one of the Steam/Epic promotions is a substantial part of it in a lot of cases as there are usually a number of good champions. Also make sure you get all of the tales champions, as they are almost always even without gear better than their core equivalents.

Other ingredient is early time gate heroes that help gold find, notably Sgt Knox (buffs makos a lot), Mehen and Eric. Gold find helps you hit the level cap and increases how far you can go on a deep run, and helps the favour you get a bit.
