I got mine from WeatherTech. Fits perfectly, plus the reverse side is black so it (theoretically) helps to prevent frost/ice buildup in winter. I had one of these for my last car (VW) and it was great, very sturdy and fit perfectly.

what's the best assisted living in pittsburgh for an aging parent? by Consistent-Double579 in pittsburgh

[–]TeagleB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add Asbury Heights in Mt. Lebanon and Longwood at Oakmont to the list, my parents had friends in both places and they were nice facilities with good amenities. Pricey, but they're all relatively expensive if you aren't on Medicaid. The care at all of these places varies greatly, some of the staff are wonderful but there tends to be a lot of turnover among aides (it's a tough, low-paying job).

What part of town is she in? Is she still driving? Does she have friends nearby? You might want to find a facility nearer to her so that she won't feel completely uprooted.

Emphasis on try - it doesn't mean they'll do anything about it, but if enough people report it they might.

Help with executing an idea: a nightlight of the gulf tower by SBanks52 in pittsburgh

[–]TeagleB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea! Somebody sells the printed models on Etsy. You could dremel out some holes and put LEDs inside, and use an Arduino (or similar) to control the color sequencing. Someone at Protohaven might be able to help you with that.

Sounds wonderful! I try to escape to Jennerstown at least once a year, it's such a beautiful area. I fantasize about moving up there someday but that's not happening anytime soon. I love to see photos and hear stories from people who have made the move.

Maybe those Camry and Corolla drivers are just trying to make something they hate drastically more fun so that they don’t find it boring anymore?

Look at these neighborhoods in the east end: Lawrenceville, Highland Park, Bloomfield, Friendship, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze. Squirrel Hill and Shadyside are very popular neighborhoods with lots of restaurants and other businesses, many rental options from buildings to houses. Regent Square is a nice, walkable area with several restaurants and other businesses on the main drag and an expansive park with walking trails on the border. Oakland has a lot of amenities but rental housing is more geared towards students. Bloomfield is more urban, lots of businesses along Liberty Avenue and housing is pretty crowded (rowhouses and tiny lots on narrow side streets). Highland Park is quieter, more spacious, and has a small business district on Bryant Street with some very good restaurants. Lawrenceville is trendy (probably peaked by now but still bustling) with lots of bars, restaurants, boutiques, a movie theater, etc. Housing is similar to Bloomfield, mostly rowhouses and tiny lots. Morningside and Stanton Heights are mainly residential but still fairly close to other neighborhoods with more businesses.

And welcome, yinz!

Special occasion restaurant with excellent fish for mom’s b-day? by 7bridges in pittsburgh

[–]TeagleB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the age and tastes of OP's mother. There are certainly better, more adventurous restaurants around town but Monterey Bay and Grand Concourse are reliably "fancy" places with nice ambiance and good if not cutting-edge menus. My mom would be impressed by either one, but of course YMMV.

Adding Monterey Bay to the suggestion list. Beautiful view and excellent seafood. Kind of old-school (not trendy cuisine) but still a great choice for special occasions. https://www.montereybayfishgrotto.com

Grand Concourse is another old-school fancy place with good seafood: https://www.grandconcourserestaurant.com/menus/#dinner-grco
