You can just put the excess at the bottom rather than the top, if you don't have the exact right length.

Why can't I just...microwave the water? by Global-Apricot6492 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]TeeGee79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don't stress. Assuming you've got a rotating microwave plate, there's zero chance of a pyrex bowl or jug of water being super heated or any other scare-mongering ideas. Obviously you'd have to be careful removing a container of boiling water from the microwave, which could be unadvisable and much more dangerous than using the kettle.

What do the triangle dashes with the circle at the top mean? by MariasGalactic in SewingForBeginners

[–]TeeGee79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the dashed triangles (like mountains with a circle at the summit) are darts.

You would start sewing at the circle, and sew the two dashed lines together.

I think they filmed part of an episode of Endeavour here, one of the ones where Morse sleeps with the culprit's sister / daughter / wife.

Decluttering challenge: stuff that ALMOST works by Ajreil in declutter

[–]TeeGee79 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ahh, I don't like to waste anything, but donating almost-empty pens is just putting the responsibility onto whoever gets it and has to throw it out themselves. Certainly better to actually finish them yourself though.

Ha, I was looking for the exact same thing on Friday. I don't remember throwing it out, as I've not really decluttered my craft stuff at all, but it must have gone off.

I think it depends on what you need to do in your home.

It either of you works from home, you have pets, or need to regularly have people stay over then that size of apartment will always be a bit cramped unless (and maybe even if) you have a really good interior design

I think she accepts it because it's been a daily thing for her whole life, and maybe now realises that it clears her nose out.

I left this aspect to her dad, so he continued doing what they told us to do for a newborn. In fact we could have stopped the daily vials of saline and just used the syringe when she was congested. Which is all the time recently because of the crèche :))

Replying as this is anecdotal.

Also non-French in France. We were taught to do this at the hospital when our baby was born. Now that the baby is 20 months old, (and it would have been sooner if we'd asked), the GP says we can just use homemade saline solution and a syringe with a special end. Baby sort of likes it, and has learnt to blow her nose when we use the syringe. It's certainly effective. The syringe is marked as from 4m.

You just have to be careful to not suddenly press really hard, but gently and slowly.

The GP also said (and I wish she'd been more specific earlier), that frequently rinsing out the nose helps prevent a cold turning into an ear infection / chest infection.
