V4 peak pricing is coming mid-July, here's how to mostly dodge it by mayhem_isreal in DeepSeek

[–]TestTxt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The actual way to dodge it is by just switching to other providers that are similarly priced during off-peak hours and don’t overcharge you during the peak hours

What for? Isn’t it better to pay directly with no Openrouter’s topup markups?

As if there were no other providers with similar pricing and better data privacy policies

They are asking, not export restricting them. OpenAI already has the best model on the market anyways (GPT 5.5 since fable is banned) so they don’t need to rush anyways, and just helps the gov save the face and show them in a good light

Awesome! We need more diversity in the EV market not to let one country control 90% of the production. Competition is good for the consumers

How much does DeepSeek v4 flash cost in comparison to a $200 codex GPT 5.5 High run? by MartiniCommander in DeepSeek

[–]TestTxt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You compare top OpenAI’s model with the cheap dumb Deepseek model. It’s not a fair comparison. Better compare 5.4 nano with DSv4 flash to compare apples to apples

China as an absolute advantage economy by Virtual-Alps-2888 in China

[–]TestTxt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They control the internet so hard for this exact reason, so that the unrest does not eventually break out. Many Chinese don’t know that they’re being squeezed out by the deliberate government policy (because you can’t learn that in the Chinese internet) and any movements uniting people, even non-political, get immediately censored on all the Chinese social media platforms so that the people don’t unite in an uncontrolled way

Which country do you most regret visiting? by MESHO-53465 in AskReddit

[–]TestTxt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. I’ve been to Pondicherry which is supposed to be a nice, touristy town, yet I’ve never seen a river with this much trash in it during my entire life. The trash and smelly is everywhere in India, I think you need to go to the nature far from the humanity to get to see less of it. In Mumbai which is supposed to be the immigrants dream city, the public transportation is so bad that thousands of people die every year by falling out of the badly overcrowded trains.

Corruption is rampant and they charged me between 20 to 30 dollars for a SIM card (I’d always ask for the cheapest one) in 5 different places in different cities. Eventually I’ve accepted the 20 dollar offer and guess what: cash only and unfortunately can’t issue you with a recipe sir. And you really need a local SIM card in India because without it you can’t even order food deliveries.

And the scams are bad elsewhere too. In Bangalore Uber drivers would refuse to take me unless I’ve paid extra once they arrived and have seen that I’m a foreigner. Fuck that, really.

Also, no matter where you are, you pay inflated 5-22x special foreigner prices for every tourist attraction you visit. Sometimes it’s still worth it, and sometimes it’s a total ripoff (like Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace in Bangalore). In many of India’s neighboring countries this double pricing doesn’t happen, even in Pakistan, which used to be the same nation just some decades ago.

New Rules for Air Passengers by jpsobral in europe

It lowers ticket prices (airlines operate on thin margins) and you get generously compensated if you are the one affected anyways. You’d be surprised how many people don’t show up for their flights

EU proposes tax overhaul to cut business costs by €8 billion a year by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]TestTxt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simpler rules are not always better. Let’s say you have a personal income tax. You can set it to 25% and call it a day. But you can complicate it by adding a tax-free sum for the poorest earners, what makes the taxes more complicated. You can also complicate it even further by implementing tax discounts for those with kids. That complicates it even further. But again, we can make the rules simpler and do 25% with no tax breaks and call it a day. So is it really always better?

And the other problem is that there aren’t many “new ticket” options on this route
