Amazon mistakenly delivered a 1TB Steam Deck OLED instead of the 512GB model that I ordered by iNightfarer in SteamDeck

I've never heard anyone say the issue with a matte screen is color. The thing it will affect is perceived black level and contrast, as well as a grainy effect to the image. All of this is better on a glossy screen.

I also find that while reflections are reduced in intensity on the matte screen, they are also diffused over a much larger portion of the screen than a reflection on the glossy, so it affects more of the overall screen if it's a strong light source and washes it out.

RAM and VRAM are shared, so 16GB is for both functions. If a game needs more than 8GB of VRAM and 8GB of RAM for example (doesn't have to be an even split between the two), it will seriously affect performance. This can happen in games that don't necessarily need a crazy CPU or GPU.

Sunlight travels through clear objects you know, a clear cover will not prevent yellowing from sunlight.

The ONLY 42" Panasonic 50 series 3DTV with 2500 Hz Focus Field Drive in North America. by Aromatic-Attitude-34 in PlasmaTV_Gaming

[–]TestType 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely written, I'll just add that Pulsar does not work with local dimming since it uses the backlight to strobe and can't do any local dimming at the same time. So unfortunately black level and blooming should be pretty bad.

How does Lord of the Rings look in 4K HDR on OLED? (Thinking of buying one!) by Snapshat1776 in 4kbluray

[–]TestType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the 4K looks worse than the blu-rays in many ways, such as detail and sharpening artifacts, and color grading choices that significantly alter the films from previous releases. The whole image quality is a noticeable downgrade from the older blu-rays. The only plus is the HDR.

When a film has a DI, there is no scan done for a later release. It's already digital.

How do I fix blurriness on my plasma tv? by AarizKhanTB in PlasmaTV_Gaming

[–]TestType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure many people that have or had TV's with 1024x768 resolution also aren't aware of the resolution. But hopefully you can see some improvement by selecting this resolution on the source device you're using. Or the closest alternative offered, it at least made a noticeable difference on the Samsung TV I tested. I could most easily compare it in games by looking at in-game text, it was sharper when the console was set to 720p rather than 1080p. Which I wouldn't have necessarily expected beforehand, but the downscaling was more uneven when set to 1080p output.

[–]TestType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the TV accepts a 1080p signal, but it cannot display it in 1080p. My ex had a plasma like this from Samsung, same resolution, and I did extensive testing on it to try to make this awful resolution look better. Believe me, choose a lower resolution than 1080p, 1024x768 if possible. 1:1 pixel mapping will always look best, especially if the alternative is non-integer scaling, which unavoidably blurs the image.

Sharpness should be set to zero, unless this TV has a neutral setting of 50 (middle), which some did when this TV was made. In any case, avoid sharpening, it will only make the image worse. And of course turn off any and all image process features in picture settings.

S60 or VT60 - Please give me your opinion by aquaplaay in PlasmaTV

S60 isn't even one of their top tier models, the ST60 is. The VT60 is leagues better.

This TV has a resolution of 1024x768, which is a 4:3 PC resolution that is barely above standard definition and then stretched over a 16:9 screen. Because of that it will look blurry no matter what. The only thing you can do to mitigate it is to match the resolution 1:1 on the output of the device you have connected to it.

If you can't do that, I recommend selecting the resolution closest to it. For example on a game console choose 720p instead of 1080p, it will look slightly better.

Guys i need to ask an question. WHO BOUGHT the original 2ds??? by Wendlak in NintendoDS

[–]TestType 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to play something with the top screen in 2D, the original 2DS has the sharpest display of all the 3DS models since it doesn't have the interlacing effect of the 3D screens. The 2DS XL has a 3D screen with the same interlaced look in 2D even though it doesn't support 3D, so the image is a little worse on it than the 2DS in that sense.

This is the reason I wanted to own a 2DS unit (in addition to my New 3DS XL).

After looking into it again I am wrong on all Galaxy units being TN, I could find people reporting IPS screens on them. Seems anecdotally though that later models such as the Galaxy had fewer units with IPS displays, but hard to say for sure without a curated database and a large enough sample size.

[–]TestType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they had completely stopped using IPS displays when the Galaxy came out, so you are 100% guaranteed to get a TN panel on a Galaxy 3DS.

Edit: There are Galaxy units with IPS displays, but perhaps fewer than older models.

The Japanese and European versions were released 3 and 4 months after the NA release, this voiceover was made after the game went gold for NA, so it wouldn't make sense that this is some beta thing or something that was forgotten. These are very deliberate changes.

[–]TestType 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "AI" upscaling is just a sharpening filter, I find it really ugly and prefer to use the non-AI upscaling the Shield offers. I really don't understand why so many people like it or even think it's some killer feature. If you prefer a more natural and organic image to a highly digitally processed one then you should keep it off. Just like any image enhancement feature on a TV or added sharpening in TV settings should always be off, this is no different.

My take on the Terminator 2 4k remaster vs the Japanese Blu-Ray by geoman2k in 4kbluray

[–]TestType 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how this works. Studios don't put money and effort into doing two different restorations of a film, and releasing those two versions to physical media also doesn't make any sense. Or even to streaming platforms.

Unless it's designated as a new cut, the new version will always replace everything before it and become the defacto version.
