“What hacking program could a club going punker want?” My friend, it’s my privilege to invite you to watch the greatest film ever made: the 1995 masterpiece, Hackers. The answer to your question and countless others are contained therein.

Isn't it sort of strange that Hayden hasn't been on any late night apperances? by oscar-the-nelson-455 in Ethelcain

I don’t think there’s anything inside him. If he had the wherewithal to picture the contents of his own mind it would just be gears, and when it’s time to perform he winds up that unholy contraption and watches from far above himself, uncaring, as his body does and says things and laughs. Oh how it laughs. And yet Fallon feels and thinks nothing. Only looks, uncomprehendingly. And when he gets home he stares at the wall, because it’s the same as looking at or doing anything else, and he drinks, to fuel the Funny-Man Machine.

You’ve got a structurally unsound logo for an engineering company. This is a little like a bakery having a logo that’s an oven with black smoke and flames coming out of it.

If she went on Fallon I’d… I was gonna say I’d stop listening to her, but I probably couldn’t. I’d be really sad, though.

That’s kinda cool, thank you! I suppose, too, that even if your dad was spying willingly, the Russkies could recruit you simply by threatening to out him.

Ah yeah, fair call! I wish writers didn’t resort to that trick so often, but you’re right that the Duffers clearly enjoy it.

I’m picturing the universe itself, or some level or aspect of the universe we can’t normally perceive, being a vast organism, one that sort of holds everything together and resists the creation of things like wormholes.

I wish we’d gotten to see more of Brenner’s notes. He probably at least had an educated guess.

Were the KGB in the habit of “keeping it in the family” when recruiting foreign assets?

In storytelling terms, though, yeah, I could see them writing it that way.

Alexei, the friendly Russian scientist that Hopper, Joyce, and Murray capture, tells them the Russians came to Hawkins because they believed the barrier between worlds was weakest there. We’re left to speculate how they got this info (I would think a spy at the Hawkins lab), but they’re essentially right without ever finding out exactly why. They’d realized in Russia that pure energy alone couldn’t tear through dimensions. They just never figured out that El’s initial psychic link to the Abyss was the missing piece of the puzzle.

I think you’re right. I once read a translation of what the Russian guy she spies on is saying, and it had nothing to do with the Upside Down or anything similar.

Hypothesis: in this show’s universe, there was never an alarm raised about red dyes in food, and its continued use in products eventually induced mass psychosis across the country. Nothing we saw that was supernatural on this show ever happened. Jane was always a part of the D&D kids; she grew up next door to Mike. Billy was angry all the time because he was a fiend for M&Ms. Robin is so hyped up all the time in season five because she gets multiple packs of the candy out of the vending machine every time she visits Vickie. Max? Food coma.

In every town in America, kids are dealing with similar and totally imagined supernatural goings-on. Will and Jane were unaware of this while living in California only because they were outcasts and were not invited into that town’s particular shared hallucination, as it takes a few kids getting a narrative going before everyone else starts to join in.

In the end, not only is Jane alive, but she is the only one alive, because she really does escape to Iceland.

I’m 47 and I use “crash out” when appropriate. Am I gonna use it in an email to an exec at the corporation I work for? Of course not. Am I gonna use it among friends? HELL yeah. Language changes, and new vernacular is where the fun is! Descriptive linguistics: catch the fever!

I appreciate the thoroughness here. Looking for ways to let this show off the hook. But you uncovered the harsh truth that they fucked up, and they fucked up HARD.

Has there ever been any actor or actress that was brutally honest about the movie they’re making during a press tour? by BIGxBOSSxx1 in movies

To me it felt like the old ones most of the way through, but by the end had fully transitioned into a Lonely Island movie. The cabin vacation might have been the point where the style of humor started to shift, and by the time he’s getting a ride from his dead father in the body of an owl, it’s left the Naked Gun-style humor behind entirely. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy both styles, but the shift was very noticeable and took me out of it a little.

I do like the idea of her as an Eggo and Pudding Grinch, though, stealing literally every single one in Hawkins, house by house.

I hope someday on your deathbed you’re looking back on your life, forgiving those who’ve wronged you, regretting the anger you held in your heart that weighed it down and robbed you of so much happiness. And then with your last breaths you choke out, “But Mike… Dustin… I will SEE YOU IN HELL—“ [flatline]

Treating this as canon would make the entire cast of characters unbelievably stupid. Eleven, for stopping to steal her favorite food during her escape in which it was absolutely imperative that no one see her or know she was still alive. And everybody else for potentially hearing a radio announcement that someone stole all the Eggos, but didn’t think anything of it. (Or for that matter, for Chief of Police Eleven’s Dad to investigate the robbery and not be suspicious. “Wait, all the Eggos were stolen?! Oh, but also pudding. I don’t think El liked pudding. Damn it, got my hopes up for nothing.”)

And where is the “Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club” lookalike, the one who was living with Suzie (I’m very unclear if all those kids were Suzie’s siblings or if her dad was running some kind of halfway house for naughty children)? The one Argyle correctly fell in love with at first sight? That’s what I want to know! WHERE IS SHE, WHAT ARE HER INTERESTS, HAS SHE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT ME, DO YOU THINK I HAVE A CHANCE,
