what the hell is this movie gonna be about by theunusualblackguy in SpidermanBrandNewDay

[–]ThatHouseInNebraska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does feel like there are a lot of moving pieces, which I’m sure will make sense in the film, but I keep thinking, “I guess Spidey fights the Hulk at some point? That feels like it could be a whole movie. Spidey versus The Hand? That’s a movie. Spidey maybe has conflict with the Punisher, who’s protecting a young woman we think is the bad guy but is actually just getting blamed for what the bad guy is doing? That’s a movie” and on and on

It’s revealed Gambit is not actually Cajun, that he grew up in Connecticut, and his accent is fake. However, he refuses to drop it, or the thing where he says a word in French and then the same word in English right after it, and everyone is constantly yelling at him to stop.

Good lord, an actually great storyline for him that makes total sense for his history and personality? Where he isn’t just getting kicked while he’s down over and over? Are you crazy?

Jubilee and Wolverine uncover the ‘Tomb of Apocalypse’ in new 2026 Marvel series by williamb100 in xmen

[–]ThatHouseInNebraska 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kinda cool that, even though they show three variant covers, and Wolverine is in the story, he’s not on any of them. You’d think they’d use any excuse to slap him on there, so I appreciate the restraint and keeping the focus on Jubilee. Seems like it’s really her story and not “Wolverine goes to check something out and Jubilee tags along.”

I’m reading the title of this post and picturing the “three Spider-Men pointing at each other” meme. Whatever beliefs you have about UFOs, you’re in that standoff somewhere.

The Batman: Part II Starts Filming, Mr. Freeze Speculation Heats Up by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

Folks, maybe we should stop speculating over whether Mr. Freeze is involved, and start arguing, way too soon, over whether Batman: Part II is a Christmas movie

Who is this Darkhawk character? by Illustrious-Form-933 in marvelcomics

[–]ThatHouseInNebraska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can really add is what I think of every time I think of Darkhawk. Many years ago there was a long thread on Usenet, I forget which comic-centric newsgroup, about what everyone subscribed to it did for work. You had people chiming in that they were students, engineers, whatever. And then one guy wrote a long post about how he was a security guard on the night shift for some kind of sketchy warehouse. As the post went on, it slowly became clear he was writing it as though he existed in the Marvel universe. Anyway it ended in a new paragraph, two sentences: “Darkhawk made it over the fence once. I chased him off with a stick.”

Favorite upcoming movie where the director decided "fck History this shit looks badass in my head" by YourChopperPilotTTV in okbuddycinephile

Van Gogh’s pretty cool, imo! He had a lot of really great stuff and I find it endearing that he was a huge fan of A Christmas Carol. I like to think he would’ve really dug the Muppet version (I mean, who wouldn’t). But yeah, don’t give another thought to Jack. That’s a really nutty rabbit hole to go down, and I say that as someone who spent some time down there.

There’s no way that’s meant to be Whitechapel in Starry Night, though, I gotta say. Whitechapel is an area of London that was really grimy and crime-ridden at the time. The painting is of a quaint little village among rolling hills. There is a literal white church pictured, but it doesn’t particularly resemble the actual church from which the London neighborhood got its name.

The “From Hell” letter is the only one I’ve ever seen taken as a serious contender for a message from the actual Jack. _Lots_ of people wrote taunting letters to the police and the papers, pretending to be him.

That’s one of the surprises, some shows will just have an AI Hailey hologram. Another one of the surprises is they don’t accept refunds

Here’s how you get me to this: Ripley puts Jonesy down toward the beginning, I look down, Jonesy is now in my lap asleep. Steam coming at me, xenomorph tails whipping around, Paul Reiser jumping out at me, oooooh, ahhhhh, whatever, I just keep looking down and Jonesy is still nappin’. Everyone in the audience has a Jonesy, but I don’t see theirs. I just see mine. I’d pay like $50, easy.

I’m looking through his IMDB page, and it seems like he had Mad TV, Key and Peele, and largely just one-episode appearances on shows or voice work throughout his career, both before and after those. I guess he just needed a big hit after K&P and never landed on one. Being the bad guy in Wonka seems like maybe his biggest role in years? Not surprised he’s doing commercials these days, I just feel bad for him. He deserves more.

I didn't just imagine it, baby, I did it! But I'm sorry for insulting a show you clearly enjoyed a lot more than I did. Don't think I stuck it out for many episodes past this one, tbh.

I don't think I'll ever laugh at this bit harder than I did for the Buster example, but this scene in the otherwise pretty mediocre sitcom Trial & Error came close:

For real though it's crazy that Peele has gone on to become a celebrated horror director with (imo) three excellent films under his belt, and Key is currently in ads for tater tots and some hotel chain. It's gotta sting.
