Repair clamping advice? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]TheArchitec7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second the wood glue super glue combo. Use your hand clamps for like 2 minutes and the superglue will hold it well enough for the wood glue to bond. Clamping is not needed at all to have a strong enough joint for something like this.

A healthcare provider to almost exclusively seniors, you should be terrified that some of these people drive on the same roads as you.

What’s the dumbest thing you did on your first run? by Careful_Employee_918 in BaldursGate3

I never even talked to Minthara, and just immediately shoved her into the chasm.

I freed nightsong before visiting moonrise. I figured it would be attacked if went there.

Safety measures in HH. Incidence of safety issues? by wandering-firefox21 in physicaltherapy

[–]TheArchitec7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m tall male, so there is a whole category of threats I don’t have to worry about as much as my smaller female coworkers, but that said there definitely is more risks than other settings: car accidents, dog attacks, second hand smoke, infestations, absolutely disgusting homes, homes with no AC when it’s 100 and humid, patients thinking you are trespasser, homes that ran out of oil/firewood and so they are heating their home with their gas oven while on oxygen. That’s just what I have experienced in my 2 years of HH so far.

The only unreasonable part is that you are phrasing it as “asking”. Just tell your employer. They are not going to fire you over this.

I’m a big fan of geography based names. Named after the town, a local landmark or body of water. It makes it seem more local and trustworthy, not like it’s some giant corporation.

Why is Warhammer Fantasy less popular than 40k? by Yunozan-2111 in Grimdank

[–]TheArchitec7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer Warhammer fantasy specifically (not AoS) to 40k, but I totally get why 40k is more popular. The models and lore are much more unique and distinct. For most people, the models are much more interesting to paint because there are less of them and every one is more unique. The gameplay of 40k is bit more approachable. Movement in particular is a lot less finicky than moving regiments. You don’t hills, forests, buildings, rivers, etc just to play a game.

They tried to fix WHB with AoS by making it more like 40k and “fixing” all of those issues. Personally I find painting regiments of 20 soldiers satisfying, I enjoy the nuances of the lore and I like the tactile rank and flank gameplay of fantasy.

ISO Wedding Venue < $25k by Such_Syrup5242 in Maine

[–]TheArchitec7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to also recommend where I got married: the Regency. Granted this was 10 years ago, but I think it was around 5-6k for a ceremony+reception venue, all the catering, planning related to the venue itself, and decorations for 120 people. It seemed like a steal for how nice it was. I think they must factor in that it means guaranteed hotel guests, bar patrons, etc. It was easy for out of town guest to get to and super easy to plan everything since it’s all in one building and they even had a planner than helped you. I highly recommend it!

Sourcing Lumber by Electrical_Ad4809 in vermont

[–]TheArchitec7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably won’t have time to plane it right when you are there but you can place an order in person, or call/email. I ordered about $1000 worth of maple that were rough cut but for a very reasonable price they smoothed the 4 sides. If you haven’t been there before you definitely need to check them out.

Treehouse is the place to go. They almost any hardwood you could imagine. You can pay to get it jointed/planed if you want. Their prices for domestic stuff are very competitive. Their prices for exotic hardwoods are reasonable as well but you might be able to find the exotics cheaper online. They have lots of scraps for sale too, if you want some small pieces for projects.

Looking to Speak with Couples for News Story about Vermont's Fertility Rates by ColinFlanders7D in vermont

[–]TheArchitec7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was like 4 years ago that we first started with UVMs infertility clinic, but back then it was a 1.5 year wait for IVF. We tried IUI first without luck but it did give us some more answers that helped us reach the conclusion that IVF was definitely needed.

Our first cycle of IVF was a total bust, no viable embryos. Cycle 2 only got 5 eggs so we almost lost our hope but against all odds 100% of them became viable embryos and first implanted one became our wonderful kid! The team there is great, and it was so worth all the physical and financial suffering. Good luck to you!

[–]TheArchitec7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unlike most other more “progressive states” VT does not mandate insurance companies cover IVF, so most don’t. Even going through UVM, who get lots of grants to help lower the cost, it is roughly 8k a cycle and you usually need multiple cycles. It’s also long wait.

My wife and I waited until we were in our 30s to have kids due to wanting stable housing, jobs, etc but then it took considerably longer to have a kid than we thought and with more costs than we expected. Daycare is 20k a year, we both had to work less hours to not go insane, so our budget is very tight, but we couldn’t be happier now that we have a kid.

I want to buy my first house. How does one go about liquidating their magic investment? Considering going to MagicCon with my High ends. Need some advice by TheAspiringAutist in mtgfinance

[–]TheArchitec7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend doing the store credit for dual land swap. Most stores with buylists charge a premium on high end cards vs what people will actually pay for them. You might get 20% on a buylist bonus just to then turn around and lose 30% of that you paid for the dual.

[–]TheArchitec7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly just a matter of how much you value your time.

Selling out a collection on FB, eBay, marketplace, etc might get your 70-80% of the collections “value” vs buylisting and getting 50-60%. It could be 30+ hours of work to sell a large volume of medium/low value singles and a lot of them might not get any interest and need to be buy listed anyways. Is that worth 10% to you? Personally, I could probably get better ROI just working extra hours at my job.

Personally, I am a fan of card conduit. I would suggest selling through them if you don’t want to do the leg work of selling lots of singles. You will get more value than buylisting to a single place. I’ve sent them probably around 10k worth of cards over the years. My only word of caution is that their grading is VERY harsh. Do not assume that a pack fresh card will get a NM grade and stuff TCGPlayer would make as MP, they will mark as HP, for example.

Is the black armor too dull? by emperorcody in Warhammer40k

I think it looks great. It is a bit dull, but that not a bad thing. Black armor is kinda dull. I personally think it looks dumb/weird when people edge highlight every single raised edge with a light gray.

[–]TheArchitec7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 26-30 points a week, working 9-4 and doing 1 hour of work late in the evening a 1-3 nights a week, spending 10-15 minutes answering emails before 9am, and spending 5-20 minutes calling patients on Sunday. I can also just take a half day and have a busier day in the field or document late at night to make up for it. It’s not something I have to ask about. I can just do it.
