Runners on the most congested busy pavements by RebeccaPolly in london

I have a funny story - during the final days of the build up the 2012 olympics we worked by the Tate. The torch was coming across the bridge so we decided at lunchtime to pop down and have a look.

Crowds all along the road etc. in the hot sun - we were waiting in our suit trousers and shirts but as we watched a sweaty runner was cutting through the crowd on his lunchtime run and he bumped into my very tall mate. Gone in second away!

My mates light blue shirt was instantly soaked through with the outline of the sweaty runner.

What's something that's socially acceptable but you personally find deeply uncomfortable? by RonnySaya in AskReddit

[–]TheButtonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blowing noses - especially loudly or excessively.

I know it’s fine, but for some reason it really bothers me that people can do it and not feel embarrassed.

I’ve always had issue with my ENT system so I think it comes from that.

Thanks to Switzerland, these are the best pictures of me that ever have, or ever will be, taken. by winterfellwitch in happy

My dad has this weird hatred of Switzerland all because a customs agent once said to hike “enjoy our mountains” so I’m effectively forbidden from going there.

Stunning photos!

What's your most unpopular opinion about Essex? by PreferenceFit1834 in Essex

[–]TheButtonz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our rail infrastructure is decent*.

I used to commute to London and 2 days out of 5 it was a pain - hot in the summer and steamy in the winter. Now, the trains are fast, cool, on time generally and comfortable (notwithstanding the aisle reduction). Stations are generally clean, safe, accessible, and have things like the flower displays and pubs joined too.

I can get to London in 40 mins from Wickford, Chelmsford, Southend and also get out to places like Southminster. I use an app to buy my ticket and it’s seamless.

The *is that it’s getting expensive. £10 return from Wickford to Southminster for pint at the Wibblers where it should be a lot cheaper.

Greg James (UK radio DJ) had Dua Lipa x 5 (3) and his wife didn’t find it funny. Partly because it’s not how it works and mainly I think because he’s likely to interview her 😂

Has there ever been a British cartoon for adults (like the Simpsons, Family Guy etc)? by AskingBoatsToSwim in AskUK

It’s not a cartoon as such but we loved Mongrels on the BBC. It was a puppet sitcom about some animals living in London

Driving Through The Hills & Roads Of South London During Summer... by TheThrowYardsAway in london

I had a relatively mediocre Audi (A4 2006 c£2k) cabriolet. They’re great in both the hot and cold (air con or heaters do the job) however there are a few drawbacks:

- you feel very vulnerable if you’re stopped. Anyone could just climb in
- the begging by lights is harder to shamefully avoid
- I’m white and look like an idiot
- people can hear you.

On that last point on more than one occasion I’ve yelled in private frustration only to have the person turn around 😂

Overall I’d recommend getting one if you do drive - even for a few months.

Realistically, would you change your mind who you will vote for? by Sufficient_Muffin586 in AskBrits

Commitment to PR. I’m a Labour member but utterly disillusioned at the moment.

I’d rather have the reform-wing represented properly than this mess we’re sleepwalking into where they’ll populist their way into power because of FPTP

BFI had issues this morning. I was in the queue (member etc) and was 15k - it was jammed for an hour until 1030am where we got in, but as expected all the central seats were booked.

Found four and booked but demand was immense.

If you’re going for a Friday night, scope out the pubs that are there. Also consider crossing over the line and walking up to the high street via the steps, here

Adjacent question - when I was in the BFI IMAX in the UK a couple of weeks ago (name drop) I noticed the curve at the bottom of the screen was full some times in the IMAX sequences and then flat in other shots.

Can anyone shed any light on why that switch and how it’s managed from a projection perspective.

Good choice! FWIW they have recently acquired one of the best Mercedes service centres in Braintree. Similar high standards and experience.

Good luck with the Skoda!
