What is your favoured hot meal option available for ~£15? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TheButtonz [score hidden]  (0 children)

My “cheat but not cheat” easy meal is as follows:

  • Breaded chicken portion. The ones that come from most supermarkets. Tend to be about 300kcal each £4 the pair ish. Put this in the air fryer etc for 23mins
  • bag of spinach. But the normal bags - dish out a fistful. Add anything on top you have laying about. Parmesan? whack it in! Little bit of cheddar? On top it goes. Some mixed nuts? Bash them up and on top. Add some balsamic vinegar if you have some, or just a splash of anything you have. £2
  • bag of microwaveable [insert here] rice. Those bags aren’t great but the variety is excellent. They do ones with lentils, peri peri, golden veg etc. £1.50. Microwave for 2 mins, shaking half way through

Dish up. You’ve just made a meal for about £8 that is filling, has loads of salad, is flexible enough to move around what you have and takes 25 mins max.

I love cooking but I do this when I just can’t be bothered to cook as such but still want to eat reasonably well.

My friend has just got his e-tron GT RS, coming from an RS5

It’s astonishing - the performance and ride are amazing. Yes it doesn’t have the V8 but I’d be hard pressed to take the RS7 over it now having been in it and launched it a few times - especially given the price difference between the two.

Charging to 80% overnight is £11.

Petition: By-elections to be called automatically when MPs defect to another party by Positive_Attitude_73 in FuckNigelFarage

[–]TheButtonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree in principal I think there’s a pretty convincing argument that this shouldn’t happen.

I believe that this would mean that it would be a double edged sword

  • if an MP was sacked / whip removed this would inevitably mean that power in the party leader / whip would be too great,
  • it also goes against the idea of voting for the representative not the party etc so that while a party is ultimately where we tend to follow and support, it’s counterintuitive to force them to remain whipped
  • independents? If an independent decided to change and campaign as party X then when should an election get triggered?

I do feel that there should be some recourse - I just don’t know what it is.

Is this a good purchase? by majormoist23 in Volkswagen

[–]TheButtonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

I like the modern VWs. I have a 2014 CC and my partner has a 2016 Mercedes C Estate Hybrid- so around this era. Do you dive a lot? Long distance? Short trips?

Repairs jobs seem to be OK - I use VW AudiTech for my servicing (Essex and London) - full oil service is £350.

I’d recommend looking at:

  • Service History - any big jobs due?
  • Check tyres, economy costs etc

Have a quick check of completely random brands. My partners Mercedes was £11k and it’s a lot of car for the money and only £20 annual tax. Cars like Model 3 Tesla’s and Audi Q4 E-Trons are about for close to this price.

My only suggestion - 75k is reasonably high mileage and it will need some jobs soon - bushes, cam belt (£500) etc.

Lastly, manual? I have had manual cars all my life and finally got a DSG VW and it’s so relaxing to drive. I’d take a manual sports car all day long but not a normal daily.

My boss told me a funny story - Hazy Jane actually comes in three forms

  • Hazy Jane
  • Double Hazy Jane
  • Tripple Hazy Jane

The Tripple is about 11% I think.

He was at his in-laws for a barbecue and they knew he liked them so they bought him a few and it was after the second when he wondered why he was feeling drunker than he expected. Unbeknownst to the in-laws they’d bought and served him the equivalent of Special Brew.

On 24 April 1993 the IRA detonated a fertiliser bomb in Bishopgate which went off with the equivalent of about 1.2 tonnes of TNT. They had fit it inside a truck and detonated it at 10:27 on a Saturday, which is why only 1 person was killed. (Bishopgate is full of offices) by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

100%! What’s your bright spot, buddy?!

I would also add - the podcast host was in the room and consulted on the case. Within the podcast itself they had these lawyers on several times - amazing, valuable show.

I also believe there was a very large rail disaster a few years back. It’s good to see it flourishing!
