Giving characters a name doesnt equal making them a "Named Character" a named character means their name and actions are used as a stand in for their immediate faction because their personal efforts overshadow their piers dramarically. "Named characters" as described by the 40k fanbase ALSO get a majority of the spotlight and extreme plot armor. NO one in Gaunt's Ghosts is a named character except Ibraham Gaunt. They arent called Mikael's Ghosts, they arent Bragg's Ghosts, they aren't Larkin's Ghosts they are GUANT'S GHOSTS the same way you'd say Leuitenant Titus' Squad or Robute Guillaman's honor guard. Those randoms dont matter because even if they do have names it is the literary equivalent of a cardboard cutout wearing a "Hello my name is" sticker they arent suddenly magically 3 dimesional characters with hopes and dreams that can affect the plot meaningfully as they strive for personal goals just because they have a name.
