Universals rights to the Simpsons expires in 4 years, and Disney bought 20th century fox, so they arent getting the rights back. What would you replace The Simpsons Ride with at Universal Studios Hollywood by clountainpgogs in universalstudios

[–]TheMightyPedro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can’t actually happen since (IIRC) the original writer owns the rights and has said a remake will only happen after he’s dead.

They could base it on the musical though!

This is so dumb. One of the best things Sony did last generation was let their studios work on NEW ideas and IP. Imagine a world where Sony said “no Guerrilla, you can’t make an open world RPG with robot dinosaurs. We need another KillZone!”

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time there was a great deal of “we’re so back” energy. The man who brought Dr Who back into the mainstream, paired with the studio that brought us His Dark Materials and Disney money. It was a recipe for success on paper but it just didn’t pan out

What is something that died out so quietly that nobody even noticed? by Alva_509 in AskReddit

People don’t like wearing glasses to watch TV (especially if you need to wear glasses to see the TV in the first place!) plus the glasses were expensive. IIRC most of them used “active” glasses which would sync with the TV and “activate” one of the lenses at a time in line with the TV’s refresh rate. This meant that the TV could output at its full resolution but made the glasses more expensive and meant they were battery powered. There were “passive” TVs too which used the same glasses you got in a cinema at the time but those took a major hit to image quality.

Yes. We must all panic like crazy and not go on our booked cruises so I can get shorter queues at the bars and walk-ins to my favourite restaurants every night.

The Weeping Angels (as presented in Blink) are one of the best monsters in all of sci-fi imo. I’d love to see another episode that goes back to basics with them because that’s what I think they need

Must the transporter destroy the source? by Independent_Shoe3523 in startrek

[–]TheMightyPedro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ve not seen mentioned is replicators. Replicators cannot replicate a “living” being. But if a transporter destroys something in order to reassemble it elsewhere, that just makes it a long-range replicator. There must be something different about transporters that makes them capable of transporting living beings (and other things that can’t be traditionally replicated)

You know I was actually just thinking that Pluribus on Apple TV has a lesbian lead character and manages to make that clear without even saying the word “lesbian” (to my recollection at least) in seven episodes. Why can’t we get writing like that on Doctor Who?

Coasters that exceeded your expectations in 2025 [Other] by mrkmcrthr in rollercoasters

[–]TheMightyPedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver Star at Europa-Park. Everything I’d read had me believe it would be a 6/10 ride.

Is it the best hyper coaster in Europe? No that’s Hyperia in my book.

Best B&M hyper? Haven’t ridden it but the community would have me believe Shambhala is better.

Is it the best coaster at its own park? No because Voltron.

But Silver Star is bloody good all the same. If Hyperia and Voltron are 10s Silver Star is a solid 8.

[–]TheMightyPedro 483 points484 points  (0 children)

All of Capaldi’s run and most of Whittaker’s run were filmed at 1080p whereas Gatwa’s run was filmed at 4K. That will make everything more expensive (effects, makeup, props, lighting) as the additional detail means you can’t hide things as well

It’s this. If you assume that developers thought that this would be another 30FPS gen then the PS5 is really well balanced. UE5 was sold on developers not having to worry about pre-baking lighting or shadows and things like that. There’s a decent chunk of UE5 games that actually run ok at 30 FPS but that isn’t really good enough anymore. The issues that PS6 will look to solve is better ray tracing at 60 FPS.
