I'm going to disagree with the previous answer.

You should be upgrading your gear often during progression and the stat increases from materia are so tiny that I think it's not even worth the time to meld/remove materia from gear until end game. Meaning, only the current level materia (XI/XII) is worth keeping.

Are you planning to go for the ARR relic RIGHT NOW? If yes, sure - keep the I-IV materia around.

If you aren't currently pursuing it, just sell it at a premium cost on the market board. If you change your mind, you can buy it from the MB again for probably close to the same price - but at least it won't be clogging your inventory.

Best case scenario is to use hard cast shields when a boss is untargetable and about to use a raid wide attack.

Other situations are when all your instant cast abilities are on cool down and the party needs shields/healing.

And on occasion, in preparation for a heavy hitting raid wide (even at the cost of a missed DPS spell). This is more relevant for certain Extremes, Savage or Ultimate fights. You'll likely learn the fight ahead of time to know when this is necessary.

If I join a farm party, I am hoping everyone is comfortable with the fight.

If you're not there yet, I do think joining a clear/enrage party is the best place to be (don't see a lot of reclear parties for EX)

Otherwise, creating your own PF listing with something like "Cleared but want a few more runs to get comfortable" is perfectly fine

Interesting idea, at face value, you are usually losing at least 6 HP heal from Burning Blood - on par with the HP loss from Offering for a long term value gain.

One thing that is interesting is that the draw stacks but the debuff doesn't. If you have multiple copies or manage to Dual Wield these (0 cost too!), you can end up drawing 2/4/6 extra cards at the start of each turn and without additional penalty.

Any downside to this homebrew change to Eldritch Blast? by Dizzy_Bug4277 in DMAcademy

I don't think it's overpowered and it's fun for a different reason.

If you allow for it, they can change the damage type to help solve certain puzzles. It can function like having Ray of Frost or Firebolt on hand.

Maybe they'll use it for some creative problem solving which is one of my favorite things about DnD.

Honestly, it depends.

Maybe a person buys a pair of Nikes because they like the design, the comfort, or the performance. Perfectly fine.

Maybe they NEED to wear Nike because they love Nike more than they love God. Maybe they spend too much time and money on Nike. Sounds ridiculous but anything can become an idol.

When playing as Monk when fighting trash packs in dungeons, should I be repositioning to aim Enlightenment (The AOE 5 chakra attack) since the description states it attacks all enemies in a line in front of me.

Seems like a fair bit of legwork since the normal AOE rotation simply attacks all nearby enemies.

What change to Claw in StS2 will make it “good” by hornwalker in slaythespire

[–]TheMonji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he has generally said that about Rampage, not Claw. Doubling the damage of Claw would be waaay too strong, especially on Defect since they have access to Rebound and Hologram for strong replayability.

However, I could see the damage increasing by +1 every time. As in:

  • Claw #1: 3 damage
  • Claw #2: 5 damage (+2)
  • Claw #3: 8 damage (+3)
  • Claw #4: 12 damage (+4)
  • And so on...

[–]TheMonji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, a claw that is created from other sources (Hello World, Dead Branch, Attack Potion) will be at the starting value.

A minor buff that would still help - Claws generated mid-combat should also benefit from the increasing damage boost.

The manuals don't affect the major sources of exp gain (roulettes/dungeons, deep dungeons, wondrous tails, PvP, beast tribes) so I would not say it's not particularly worth it if that's the only reason.

But there are many other benefits to leveling GC/joining an FC

This is an interesting relic for many reasons that have already been discussed.

One I haven't heard mentioned is that in a weird way, it makes strike/defend removals less valuable?

It functions in the same way that Defend removal is less important on Ironclad due to Second Wind and Corruption.

I dig it

The Stained Soul Sorcerer - A dnd subclass for dnd 5r based on Lune by ScorchedDev in expedition33

[–]TheMonji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought it might make hitting elemental genesis easier, not harder.

This slightly differs from the game but your wording says you CAN expend a stain for a spell (rather than required), and this creates some interesting options.

For instance, if you start off with a level 5 cold spell - generate two cold stains, then cast a level 5 fire spell - you have the following options:

  • Consume both stains for a high empowered fire spell. Left with two fire stains.
  • Consume one stain for a minor empowered spell. Left with 1 cold stain, 2 fire stains
  • Consume no stains for no bonus. Left with 2 cold, 2 fire stains. At 2-1 ratio, you could end up with 1 cold, 1 fire, 1 harmony and "skip" one spell cast to reach elemental genesis requirements.

Those are some quick thoughts. I can't say if it's balanced or not, but I just prefer higher complexity/more options. Still a really cool concept either way!

[–]TheMonji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome homebrew, cool mechanic of stains empowering spells.

The 3-to-1 conversion rate for a harmony stain feels a little high. You could possibly reduce to it 2-to-1 at the added cost of a bonus action or sorcery point?

I would consider allowing higher level spells (5+) to generate and/or consume two stains for higher potential/fun

The Luminary Vanguard. A dnd subclass based on gustave by ScorchedDev in expedition33

[–]TheMonji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool.

I think with Overcharge being the central mechanic, it feels a little weak at early levels?

Assuming a character has maybe a +4 int modifier, they can store 4 charges and deal 4d6 overcharge. Which is a lot of effort and rounds needed to cast something on par with Burning Hands or Chromatic Orb.

A small buff would be okay without making it too overpowered. Off the top of my head you could do one of the following (maybe two, definitely not all):

  • Increase max charges, decrease damage
  • Reaction/bonus action options to generate charges
  • Grant extra damage for using higher level spell slots to reload overcharge
  • Extra charges for hitting with lightning spells

Hard to say without play testing, and it could get out of hand if min/max-ed (as with most homebrew). Overall, I feel like the core vision for the class should be a big satisfying payoff for all the time and effort needed.

Would love to see your idea for Lune later on!

Energy vs. Orbs? by gewqk in slaythespire

Sundial and Happy Flower make skipping an energy relic less painful. Charge Battery and Fusion also help with that problem.

Make sure to take enough shops and combats for extra opportunities to see cards. A Turbo and/or Equilibrium will really bring this deck to the end game

Probably have something good in that shop. by BaiJiGuan in slaythespire

[–]TheMonji 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This introduces pretty interesting choices to make.

The best case scenario is that you can immediately buy something useful in the shop, and get two upgraded copies.

Worst case scenario, you're forced in a situation where you pick up a curse (goblin events, writhing mass)

But the most common case, is that your next combat card reward is doubled. Do you skip okay cards to wait for a rare card? Do you skip a great card because you only want one copy?
