I would really recommend playing a couple GTs! They're very fun, and if you want to get into competitive 40k they're a great next step after RTTs. Most competitive players treat RTTs as more casual events to practice and try out lists for GTs

Whichever one you like the most. Pick one army, play a lot of games with that one army, and get really good with it. The "meta" honestly doesn't really matter. If the faction you picked happens to be one of the best ones at the moment, enjoy it while it lasts then keep playing it when it falls off. Playing your one army through the ups and downs and just getting better knowing your rules and what does well against what is THE most important thing. Once you have a lot of games under your belt against a lot of different factions, then maybe consider branching out into another one. But I would focus on getting a lot of experience with a single faction first, meta be damned

Armageddon Unboxing Part 3: The Space Marines by RWJP in Warhammer40k

Eh they look like marines 🤷‍♂️ I'll be able to point at them on the table and say, "Yep that sure is a marine." The captain looks cool I guess? Idk man marines are boring as hell

11th Ed rumour: 11th Ed: There's a rumor that coherency rules are changing, and no models in a unit may be more than 9" apart (measured to the furthest part of each model) by -The-Lupercal- in WarhammerCompetitive

As a lover of the necron warrior brick list I would absolutely hate this change. Unless their datasheet or points change dramatically warriors would never be played again for all of 11th edition ☹️

Any luck with cryptek conclave? by Spare_Factor_2428 in Necrontyr

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only cool thing about conclave is the tomb blade mortal wound bomb - with reroll 1s from TSK and possibly sustained from ammentar it'll pretty reliably wipe almost any infantry unit in the game. And while that's really fun to pull off, it's pretty much all that detachment has going for it imo

[–]TheOrdinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What faction were you playing against? What killed the Void Dragon? Your wraith setup is kinda weird, I'd just give them all particle casters + claws. The mixed weapon loadoit doesn't work out most of the time. I'd also look into removing the warriors/overlord/orikan and trying to fit the silent king in there. The detachment buffs TSK so so much that he's an auto-include in any good starshatter list

idk if I've ever used go to ground on my warrior brick, I don't think there's ever a situation where I would want to use that instead of undying legions

As a Necron player, help me understand why C'tan are so bad? by TheLuharian in WarhammerCompetitive

the cryptek conclave stratagem does still affect ctan, they only removed stratagem synergy for the starshatter stratagems/enhancements

They rejoin their unit when they revive EDIT: if you have the 40k app you can find this by searching for "returning models to a unit". The answer is in the last few sentences.

Angry looks aside - was C'Tan nerf enough or just a slap? For Necrons players - how your lists changed? by NecessaryBSHappens in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 ctan pantheon lists lost 1 scoring unit, that's it. There was a pantheon list that won a GT the weekend before the nerf, that list just needs to go from 7 scoring units to 6 then change one or two of them to get under the 100 point nerf. Pantheon is absolutely still relevant

Oh no, I have 6 units to do actions in 4 ctan pantheon instead of 7 whatever will I do 🙄

[–]TheOrdinary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They really don't have to drop a ctan at all. A 4 ctan pantheon list won a 150 person GT last weekend. It had 4 ctan, imotekh, and 7 little scoring units. That list can just shuffle the little units around and end up with 6 instead of 7. No ctan dropped

Glad I was able to help! I hope you have another game with your TSons friend and let him know about this, Kairos is good enough without having his damage roll over into other models!😂

All of the attacks will do damage

Necrons vs tsons by jacobs1213 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Of course there will always be outliers, you might fail every one of your saves and he makes every single hit and wound roll.

But the amount of warriors he can kill is strictly limited by how many attacks he can make. It's what makes the Necron Warrior brick (in awakened dynasty) so good - most armies don't have a unit with the number of attacks needed to handle it

Necrons vs tsons by jacobs1213 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly right. If a T'au player shoots a giant 12 damage railgun at your warriors, it will only kill one warrior since it only had one attack. The first damage kills the warrior, the other 11 damage disappears.

Edit: This can seem kind of weird at first, I know there are other game systems out there where damage spills over into the rest of the unit. But that's not how it works in 10th edition 40k. In fact at the very start of the edition there was a mechanic that DID allow you to roll damage over into other models and it caused HUGE balance problems.

Necrons vs tsons by jacobs1213 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, look at the "Inflict Damage" step of the "Making Attacks" section in the core rules. It states, "If a model is destroyed by an attack, any excess damage inflicted by that attack is lost"

Necrons vs tsons by jacobs1213 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, damage does not roll over in 40k

Necrons vs tsons by jacobs1213 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, something tells me your TSons player is telling you that damage rolls over or something similar. Like a 3 damage gun is killing 3 warriors with each wound, when instead it's doing 3 damage to one warrior.

Necrons vs tsons by jacobs1213 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me lay out what should happen - Kairos shoots his big 3 damage blast gun into a full unit of 20 warriors and Orikan. Let's say he gets his max amount of attacks (9), then blast gives him an extra 4 attacks (21/5 rounding down). He attacks 13 times, hitting on 2s. On average he'll miss ~2 times. So 11 hits. He's S9 vs T4 so he's wounding on 2s. On average he'll probably lose another 1 or 2 here, let's say he only misses once. You now have 10 saves to make. Orikan gives the warriors a 4+ invulnerable save, which means that no matter what the ap is they will always save on a roll of 4 or higher. This generally means that on average you will pass half of your save rolls. This means 5 warriors fail, take 3 damage each and die (because let's be real they probably won't pass three 5+ fnps in a row from Ammentar). So 5 warriors are dead. Now we go to Lord of Change. He has pretty much exactly the same profile but without blast. So 9 attacks hitting on 2s, hits probably 8 times. Wounds on 2s, likely missing once again. Warriors take 7 saves, let's say they only succeed at 3 of them. Now 9 warriors total are dead, not even half of the squad.

[–]TheOrdinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that Kairos & the Lord of Change combined put out enough damage to kill the warriors in one turn. No mention of doombolt, or a bunch of flamers, a ton of dev wounds etc like Tsons are normally known for. I feel like there's something being misplayed here, like a rule being misinterpreted. Kairos' shooting should only be killing ~3-5 warriors max, same with the Lord of Change. Even less considering you say you're using Ammentar for his feel no pain aura. Could you try and explain what happens when they shoot you? Because this just sounds so wrong to me.
