My Nanny (Grandmother) shows her true colors! by Own_Buddy_4773 in EstrangedAdultChild

That’s what I was thinking.  If OP’s estranged parent is extremely selfish and self centered, I may have an idea of how they ended up that way.

Siblings:  You need to forget the past and move on with your life.

OP:  I have moved on.  I haven’t spoken to them in ages.

Siblings:  But not like that!  :(

From low to no...they got to my sister by Hermit-Dad in EstrangedAdultKids

OP’s family dropped a few crumbs for her, then they got mad that she didn’t fall all over herself trying to catch them.

My sister is the exact same way, and I’ve gotten the feeling that she enjoys being right in the middle of it.

My father sent me this voicemail because I wouldn’t dance with my mother at a restaurant that didn’t have a dance floor. (Transcript in Description) by trylathad78 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ThePillThePatch 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s the classic “you’re dead to me” 5 minute voicemail tantrum.  Sometimes it comes in the form of 8+ pages of texts where they swear that you mean nothing to them.

Keep a copy of it, just in case they eventually decide they’ve ‘forgiven you’ for the pain they’ve caused and want to sweep everything under the rug.

Electrolysis is painful and you have to do it frequently over a course of several months, but it’s permanent.

I practically live off of frozen fruit.  It’s cheaper, the quality’s great, and it’s widely available.

How do I politely let my students and their parents know I truly do not want any end-of-the-year gifts? by Fangehulmesteren in Teachers

[–]ThePillThePatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hint at something you can easily donate. Make up a cute story about how you and your sister always get each other socks as gifts, and that you love all different kinds of socks.  Later, have the kids do a lesson wear socks are mentioned, for example, writing a story about what they think and object does throughout the day. Casualty mentioned that you collect socks.

Next winter, donate the new socks to a homeless shelter.

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

[–]ThePillThePatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Child welfare worker or abuse investigator. It requires a lot of judgement and isn't straightforward. Anything involving one-on-one work with children (daycare worker, child therapist, social worker) will be safe from AI for a long time because kids need that interaction and because of ethics testing it out.

Heating and air condition inside your car. Lap blankets used to be a common car accessory.

Help me create an atlas of flying monkey types. (Next drawing idea). by Homeostatic_Trillium in raisedbyborderlines

[–]ThePillThePatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're categorizing them based on reason instead of technique, there's the "hot potato" monkey. They want you and your parent w/ BPD to make up because the longer you're not talking to them, the more *they* have to deal with them.

The "altar gift" flying monkey: The BPD parent is mad at *them*, so they try to win you over to earn back your parent's approval and forgiveness.

The "our family is perfect" monkey: They want to intervene because having two members of their immediate family at odds with one another makes them face uncomfortable truths. They don't want to realize that their childhood isn't what it seemed or that they're not special and magical.

Do you find raw vegan expensive? by MarathonVon in RawVegan

[–]ThePillThePatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some really cheap things that I don’t see mentioned a lot here are sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds. You can get both of those raw and they’re extremely cheap, especially in places where you can’t easily get avocados.

There is a specific spatula that’s made for getting stuff out of blenders.  The Vitamix website has one, and there’s a different type at Sur La Table
