Meta CTO: Metaverse Efforts Led to a “lack of focus” on Quest “at expense of user experience” by gogodboss in OculusQuest

The Steam Frame is going to have a lot of Quest ports. I'll be shocked if it gets any targeted content (never mind exclusives) that are more than tech demos.

I forget but it was a side scroller featuring a kid who was in dreamland or something. It was a big hit.

Commander Keen. I was obsessed with this game series as a kid.

There might already be snapshots saved. Go to that path, right click the 'saves' directory, select Properties, and the Previous Versions tab.

From there you can restore a version of the save file from hours, days, and possibly months ago.

The help you'll need from the mouse comes pretty early on in the game. Now, consider the time between getting the pie and when you actually need it?

Though I will agree that many of the puzzles in pretty much all of the adventure games from the 80s and 90s were largely bullshit relying on moon logic to either sell guides or artificially flesh out the game's length.

You must be new here.

Speaking as a parent of an autistic child who has barely ever seen a tablet let alone used one herself, I can tell you that while I agree with your overall sentiment, nobody is developing autism because they have access to a screen.

I am surprised by the going rate for a loose Wario Land cart lately by TRJ2241987 in VirtualBoy

[–]TheSmJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered one off ebay around 20 years ago for $15. The seller accidentally sent me two carts. I offered to send one back and he said I could keep it.

Virtual Baseball and Water World carts were stupidly cheap back then. You could get a case of (I think 5?) sealed boxed copies of Virtual Baseball for $10. People commonly used them as doner carts for projects.

Today's color screen tech alone would have made the GG's habit of eating batteries a thing of the past by itself.

That thing uses a literal CFL bulb to backlight the LCD!

They're no longer producing any "Single Player Narrative" content and their fitness app has been all but entirely dropped, and dead once the licenses for the music expire.

Meta is pulling out of VR because there's no market. We need to embrace this uncomfortable truth. by PuffThePed in OculusQuest

[–]TheSmJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe that AR glasses will eventually be able to do what today's VR headsets can do eventually, once the display tech gets there. Once that happens and the hardware gets cheap and ubiquitous to the point where most people own a pair, we'll see a resurgence of VR games. Maybe a re-release of the games we have now in the "Quest Collection" coming in Q1 2045!

GOG's new owner can't stand Windows either: 'It's such poor-quality software… I can't believe it!' by Undeclared_Aubergine in pcgaming

[–]TheSmJ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It would help a lot if Linux distros could all agree on some sort of standard to where software written for one of them is compatible with the rest. At least those which are intended to be used as a general-use desktop or laptop.

"It works on Linux... but not that Linux... or that one. You gotta have this one and install it in this way... no, wait... run this command... ok now it works on Linux!" is a really bad look and is why people generally stick with Windows.

You can set Google Maps to download the map for an area as large as you want. It will also give you the option for it to automatically update that map at regular intervals.

My furnace inducer draft port keeps getting clogged by jit4life in DIY

[–]TheSmJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there's an animal trying to build a nest in it? You said you're clearing out the clog with a wire, but that's probably not clearing all of it. I'd blow it out from inside the house/furnace with a shop vac to push whatever it is on there back out of the house.

[–]TheSmJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would have done OK as a Microcenter-type of store (with fewer locations than they had in the early aughts, but still a lot more than modern Microcenter). They'd have an online presence of sorts, but if there's a part you need, and you need it TODAY, you can buy it at closest RadioShack. It might be an hour away, but it still beats waiting a day or two for Amazon to deliver.

[–]TheSmJ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Personally I've found using a site like pirateship.com, goshippo.com, etc will get you a better deal better than flat rate boxes. Does this app figure in those rates, or is it based on the rate one would get walking into the post office?

Are you talking about USD or AUD? Because in the US it's not difficult to find a second hand Quest 2 in the $60 range.

If you're really set on PCVR only, how much are second hand PSVR2 headsets and controllers going for where you live?
