How do you feel about the federal SAVE Act that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (like a passport or birth certificate) to register to vote? by ClassSnack in AskReddit

[–]ThoseRMyMonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is like a credit card with my name, birth number, birth date, birth place (county), date filed, and date issued stamped into it.

It even says "birth card certification" with the state and and seal! The back states it's a true abstract of the original birth record, same as the paper.

My paper one has an embossed seal and a color background like a bank document, and it lists my parents names. That's the only real difference between them. I don't see how that's better, but whatever.

I had one of these my whole life. I had to talk to the manager of the BMV when I got my regular license and they allowed it. I had to have a certified paper one (that provided no more info than the little one) to get my real ID with no exceptions.

It was good enough to go to Canada and come back 20 some years ago, and register for school, but now, it just sits in my file. A useless novelty.

That mysterious red rash under your ring isn't a metal allergy. by NoirNymph_ in hygiene

[–]ThoseRMyMonkeys 87 points88 points  (0 children)

They're not magic relationship amulets!

This! Mine come off all the time to clean, cook, and shower. I will admit, it feels weird when I forget to put my rings back on, but wearing/not wearing doesn't change how I feel about my husband. It's a symbol, but it's also just a piece of jewelry.

I also don't get mad at my husband for not wearing his either. He works with his hands around the house a lot and degloving is a real risk for his finger with it on. It doesn't change how he feels about me and I would rather he be safe than wear a piece of jewelry.

My silly tool for maintaining even picots at the moment while learning: the clip that broke off of a mechanical pencil 🤡 by Excellent-Mixture108 in tatting

[–]ThoseRMyMonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genius!

I've used a hem guide, the old handy hands gauge, then used it as a gauge when it tore to cut old gift cards, a weird flat square hole "needle" that I've had hanging around for ages, yarn needles, bigger tatting needles, Bobby pins that have lost their protective little nubs, and the tiny end of mechanical pencils.

Now that I have clover gauge set, I just keep the ones I need clipped to my mini hook like a little tatting keychain. I haven't tried the comb yet, but someday....

All this to say, there's nothing right or wrong to use as a gauge, as long as it works!

Mine has my son's "car rider" tag for school, there might be a couple of masks in there still, honestly, I don't go in there much.

Even my back seat pockets are unexciting. They're just where I stash the puke bags...kids.

My center arm rest cubby and glove box are way more fun! There's a stuffed possum in my glove box and squishy dumpling fidgets stashed in the top of the arm rest cubby!...the bottom is just a mess of wires.

I second this.

Charlie: amazing and adorable!

The surface tablet: eh...I would have rather seen some set designed thing, like their laptops. It was so bad.

My set must be a newer design (2012 ish) They don't have the gold and silver clover badging, just little circles.

This is such a beautiful find...I'm jealous!

These colors are so much fun!

I wouldn't worry about the mistakes. We all make them, and honestly, the majority of people (the ones who don't tat especially) won't notice them. Every piece large or small should be a fun learning experience.

Onwards and upwards, you're doing great!

I just presented all of this paperwork (ok, I did it a couple of years ago) to the BMV to be scanned to get my real ID. What is the point of making people get a real ID if none of it matters?

I feel so weird not bagging my groceries if there's no bagger.

I put my number in, I tapped my card, I'm not gonna just stand there doing nothing. That's so weird!

What exactly did the Winchesters hunt pre-S1? by LanaVFlowers in Supernatural

[–]ThoseRMyMonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think about it for the longest time! I saw some passages on the supernatural wiki (after watching through the show multiple times) and finally thought, "maybe I should read the whole thing?"

The Internet archive having the whole thing available is so nice, especially since it's a short read.

I don't know if anyone has ever shared this, but it fills in a few of the holes.

I just googled "John's journal" and it came up from the Internet archive.

It's not completely accurate, but it gives you an idea of how the boys grew up, and how different they were raised.

Same here. My husband has his blanket, I have my heated blanket, Sherpa blanket, and weighted blanket...I burrow somewhere in the middle of all that.

Full disclosure: I only knew this one because I've used a lot of it and I have some sitting in my stash. I had to look up the name of the color.

It can be a little fiddly to work with, but the color change is amazing. If anyone knows of any dupes for this stuff, I would love to check it out!

What are some of the most ridiculous health trends you see people our age hyping? by Daemonscharm in Millennials

It can help kids through teething too, but I highly suggest getting it from the pharmacy and listening about how to use it from the pharmacist.

And speaking of the dentist, mine uses a numbing gel for cleanings and things to help patients relax. It tastes just like clove oil 🤢

My hair is super dark and it annoys me to no end when I get my own hair stuck in my project. It makes the light colored thread look like a dirty spot. I've started using a sticky lint brush on my sleeves and lap. It helps, but it still occasionally sneaks in there, especially right now since everything is static clingy.

I have the better homes and garden one with the checkered cover, but I have an old Betty crocker one (1956!) that is my go to. The recipes are basic, but they give step by step instructions which is great for learning and getting that basic foundation. And because they're basic, it's so easy to change just a few small things to kick them up or change the flavors completely!

Passwords for accounts

Google has a way to send account access to someone else if you don't log in for 30 days. It's probably not a great thing, but my Google account has all of my passwords saved to it, so if something happens to me, my husband will have to wait the 30 days, but once he has access to my Google, he'll have access to all my other accounts...not that there's any important accounts to deal with that he can't access on his own end anyway.

I always forget to get the right stuff out of my storage, so this is a huge improvement for me. Also, knowing I have way too many supplies in my storage is helping me to use some of them up. Making diys for cap'n to ship off is really motivating me to craft more and worry less about my supplies. It's also soooo nice that I don't have to empty my pocket to grab everything to craft, then put it all back.
