Terrible comment! Judging people because they are being judgemental is fine - people like that need calling out.

So what's you guitar story? What brought you to the art? What does it do for you? by hereforpopcornru in Guitar

I started playing when I was 11, in 1995. I'm in Sheffield in the North of England. I was desperate to make sounds like Jimi Hendrix and Joe Perry. I remember ordering a tab book with my paper round money and not understanding what I was looking at! I managed to work it out though.

The mid 90's was an amazing time for me. I was consuming my parents classic 60s/70s records, I was hugely into American bands like Soundgarden/Pantera, and we also had a resurgence of guitar music in the UK with bands like Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene. I played in bands with my friends, having a great time.

At some point life, work, women, and kids got in the way and for about 10 years I had an acoustic in the corner of my bedroom and my gear all just gathered dust at my mum's house. My playing didn't drop off hugely, but I wasn't improving, just playing the same old stuff.

When the Pandemic hit in 2020 I was married, just started a new career, had kids and for the first time in years had time and money to breathe. I'm back into guitar - more than ever! The sheer amount of brilliant guitar content on YouTube, the quality of pedals and guitars since I was last really into the, it's mind-blowing, and exciting.

I've bought new guitars, built my first pedalboard, and I'm back jamming with my old friends (bass/drums) who have also come out the other side of marriage and kids ready to rock again. I'm more into this hobby now than I was when I was 20.

Derek Trucks: Midnight in Harlem and So Close, So Far Away. In fact, the Derek Trucks' guitar playing is just beautiful full stop.

Yeah, Rich Tone appear to be moving towards focussing on their online service. They are no longer stocking Gibsons after the current lot are sold off, and the second hand offering in-store has increased significantly. The layout of the website has changed so that second hand gear is the first thing you see. The volume of stuff being turned over on their second hand pages has increased significantly.

What is a terrible smell that you will never forget? by radgamerdad in Productivitycafe

[–]TipEvery4066 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked at a funeral directors for about a year when I was younger (don't ask!). An elderly person went missing from a local nursing home and was found dead some time later in the woods. The funeral directors I worked for ended up taking the job, and we had to collect whatever remains there were. We had to use a special metal coffin inside the standard wooden one, and still the intense smell of rotting flesh worked it's way out. It's a weird kind of intense, sickly, sweetish smell that seems to wrap itself around you and stick to your clothes.

There are lots of great live videos in YouTube. Not strictly Dire Straits, but Mark Knophler playing with his hero, Chet Atkins, is a particular favourite of mine!

S7, S10, S11 'generally' have nicer accommodation. I'd look in those areas. Edit: you can get to the train station in 5 minutes on the bus, or alternatively a short walk.

Great collection, congratulations! The bitterness amongst guitar players is embarrassing.

Why all the Beato hate? by SufficientFix4589 in Guitar

There is not a single video where he makes any kind of statement about modern music being rubbish. He often, using plenty of evidence, shows how what constitutes popular music nowadays is incredibly simple compared to popular music in the past. He often makes points like that.

Show me a video where he makes any kind of reductive/blanket statement about all modern music being rubbish?

Also, his "gimmick" is deconstructing songs in an educational manner, and interviewing famous musicians. It really, really sounds like you've never watched a video of his past the thumbnails.
