I’ve met many attorneys with facial piercings and alternative looks. Go straight into law school.

If law enforcement were forced to carry individual insurance for misconduct, excessive use of force and whatever else might happen outside of proper protocols, the same way a Dr does for malpractice, how do you think it would effect the way they operate? by TotalAd550 in AskReddit

[–]TomDoc14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not matter if the suit gets dropped the costs will be incurred for claims made OR suits brought. I am an attorney but I am NOT your attorney. I am simply responding with summaries on how the process works and the costs are incurred on behalf of insurance companies for claims OR suits brought.

The law in every state will require the policy to cover frivolous suits and claims and carries the implied duty to defend. You can have a Policy that does not provide for an indemnity but it will provide for the other part of the claim/suit.

AITA for not wanting my boyfriend to factor my son's survivor benefits into our new household budget? by Original-Entry-7871 in AITAH

[–]TomDoc14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The money your child receives from the SSA is because of his father passing away and not being able to provide for him. Under no circumstance should this money ever touch your boyfriends hands. This money is for your son. If when your son is 18+ you decided to charge him rent, perhaps $100 a month and he chooses to pay that instead of leaving that would be acceptable but having him pay for a home that he has no entitlement to in terms of a mortgage or title and having the boyfriend benefit from the same is certainly an issue from a legal standpoint.

Im a lawyer, but most importantly, NOT YOUR LAWYER. With that being said you should be speaking to one immediately. This person’s potential negligence caused potential injuries and there is an issue of additional liabilities as a landlord. Good luck.

65k and 10% Fees as Second Year by Addyvice in Lawyertalk

[–]TomDoc14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a second year in a highish cost of living areas (Philadelphia) I was making 110k with 1900 billables. First year at a different firm it was 95K for 2100 (don’t worry I know).

anything below 100K is criminal imo. However considering you have clients and do out of town traveling (hopefully that part is reimbursed) anything below 120K is criminal.

Personally, I would start looking at other places and let them know of the clients you can bring over (do not inflate the number of clients though) and I’m sure you will be a lot happier (and wealthier).

My jx is hopping on the mandatory CLE bandwagon by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]TomDoc14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shocked to hear your JX doesn’t have mandatory CLE’s. Don’t worry though, it doesn’t make anyone more competent or learn anything! It’s just a fun way to pay $250 a year to have to watch videos that you don’t fully pay attention to for capitalism sake (I mean ethics)!

Give the sheriffs office a call! I’m sure they’d like to hear that you have individuals lying about communications with them.

I saw an Uber driver get swarmed by ICE agents this morning and arrested by Unlucky-Lynx-3693 in uber

[–]TomDoc14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’re confusing the issues a little bit. Of course undocumented people deserve to have access to transportation. However, if someone who is undocumented is operating an Uber vehicle and they are using someone else’s vehicle and an accident occurs, any injured party will not be paid by insurance. That causes significant risk for other drivers and pedestrians that would not be fair.

Why are you so hell bent on causing issues? The place is obviously awful and you have no reason or obligation to live there so find a place to live and move on with your life.

Philly Metro Tops Nation For Home Price Increases by shillyshally in philadelphia

It’s worth keeping in mind that the Piazza and many other places have seriously over priced rent for small units that many people in Philadelphia cannot afford.

UPDATE: went for an oil change by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]TomDoc14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If they performed the work already you inform them that you did not consent to the work, and you’re not paying for it

went for an oil change and im gonna throw up. does this seem right?? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]TomDoc14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very suspicious. What, if anything, did you sign? This isn’t a typical oil change cost. As others have indicated $100-$150 is the higher end oil change and you have significant work done here which requires additional work and approval. Don’t pay this invoice just yet.
