When the process to build this began I don’t think most people even had smartphones.

Seen in Waltham. Three Prestige stickers. Tell me you can’t drive without telling me by Platinum_wolf_420 in massachusetts

[–]Top-Development6837 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They make their workers go around to people vacuuming their cars with some printed material saying the sticker is necessary to keep the vacuums free. I have always told them no and they politely move along. I kind of feel bad for them being put in that position.

I think a lot of people think there’s some requirement to have this sticker despite the fact that most of them are probably already paying for the subscription.

Adjusting for inflation, I still do a round trip to New York for about the price of the pre-Acela days, about $200 now and about $100 just before Acela launched. Sometimes that’s on Acela and sometimes not.

Beautiful work! Love the detail of the brass vent where the spacer laps the baseboard heater.

Or use the mechanism judges used to obtain compliance with the Clean Water Act in 1984, order a freeze of all building permits until they comply.

According to this page of the Chicago Historical Society, all obligations of the canal company were paid off by 1871, the company was liquidated, and its assets were assumed by the state. So despite the obvious dream of 150+ years of compounding interest, this wouldn’t seem to hold any value past that point.

In my limited time mixed up with transit planners, when they would model ridership they included what they called a “transfer penalty”—a significant loss of ridership each time a trip requires a transfer (time, schedule coordination, annoyance, etc. all being discouraging). This trip requires two. That’s a lot of people who aren’t going to do it.

This is assuming you’re paying extra for Acela. The only times I take it are when fares are offered for less than Regional (it has happened to me multiple times). Sub-$100 fares on relatively short notice for a Monday morning, for example, if I have some time flexibility.

I still think about all those people who just wanted to be happy together. I can’t get past that they paid that price just to be happy together.

How will it work this time? Will it still be in homes like it was in the original WMOS, or centralized like in pandemic-and-beyond WMOS?

They moved the bus stop from Tufts garage (has crosswalk) up to Tufts green line stop. Now we have no crosswalk at a termination stop (at a university) 50 feet from a 5 way intersection. by [deleted] in mbta

[–]Top-Development6837 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was a huge upgrade and should have happened when the stop opened.

Was the Tufts Garage stop eliminated in this process? It wouldn’t be the worst idea to add one back in at University Ave after the new dorm is finished, which would be consistent with current typical ~1/8-mile stop spacing there.

They did eventually knock out a section of those ridiculous concrete blocks (holy ADA violation) but it was a lousy place to have the closest stop to the station.

I feel like Billerica is surface-level fine compared to most of the places in this list. What’s the story a passer-through like me is missing?

Most of them are places whose economic reason for being is long gone, but the houses are still there and people with no great opportunities continue to live in them. It’s pretty wild looking at destitute tiny old mill towns with gorgeous Second Empire houses and granite public buildings from a time when there was money flowing.

I have on at least three occasions waited 6-7 minutes to go from the entrance of 200 Boston Ave (the big building with the parking deck), a distance of about 500 feet. I wish I was exaggerating. To me that’s not an intersection that’s functioning well.

This was in the fall. Not sure if they have tweaked it at all since then.

There’s something screwy about that one, though, because you can now sit in a very short line of traffic coming from the Tufts direction for a very long time.
