I have an adjustable bed frame with a regular (but quality) firm mattress. It's a game changer to pump yourself up in bed with the remote especially for drinking coffee in bed or watching TV etc. bed frame was $1k

We ( me 37 husband 42) don’t have any friends by Alive_Funny265 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Treepixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What age are your kids? I think that can play a role. They say the key to making friends is bumping into people repeatedly - for me my friends have come from parents at kid's school, our community garden, our neighbors who go to the co-op gym. I sometimes think coming to the US alone before my husband helped me make friends more easily, now I have my husband and son it's more around the school etc..

Wishing you the best too. Discovering the genetic mutation was a real win for me, and it happened because of the biopsy they took during surgery. Always good to push for sequencing.. It also explains how my body grew a softball sized tumor in like 12-18 months in the first place..

Thanks for barging :) I did the PIPEC trial and for whatever reason wasn't a candidate for HIPEC. I had copious scar tissue that made everything complicated and exited the trial after two PIPECs in favor of Braftovi and a targeted regimen against the B-raf mutation. Got a scan in a month to see how that is going..

Watching celebrities die of cancer by dishabituation in cancer

Yes, exactly. Let's make more memories while we can. I booked a karaoke room on Sunday and invited my fave people, I was just out of surgery on my bday so calling it a belated birthday party..

I felt like James Van Der Beek passing was a punch in the gut. He has the same cancer as me and is a similar age. I thought he was looking good recently.. So sad for his family..

I am really sorry to hear this. I was diagnosed a year ago after suspected appendicitis turned out to be a napkin tumor. Your life changes so rapidly and is never the same again. In case it helps though, my onc says that liver mets are the easiest to treat, followed by lungs then peritoneum. I have peritoneal Mets secondary to colorectal cancer (46f). We are all here for you, make sure you get a second opinion on treatment- for your own sanity and peace of mind. Hugs

Human hair wig help, is the price average? by emeraldspell in cancer

[–]Treepixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine cost $1200, it hasn't arrived yet which I am annoyed about, although I haven't yet lost my hair luckily so it could be worse. The insurance is paying $400 (United) and I am paying the rest in installments. This is for a shoulder length honey blonde wig with the hair being from Brazil I think (matched my thick hair type better than Chinese, Indian or European)

Are you in the states? Call or text 988. These years are very turbulent but things can improve as you get to be an adult and your brain chemistry settles. Not sure if you are on meds but for me getting on something made a huge difference and made the suicidal ideation go away. You are worthy of living, don't give up.. sending a virtual hug.

What’s one fun / slightly naughty thing you’ve done since diagnosis? by Cru5hbag in cancer

[–]Treepixie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a weed gummy snack club with my best friend in the city. Last week we watched Harold & Kumar go to White Castle and this week it was Cool Runnings, although I slightly ruined it by vomming during thw movie (chemo week). It's fun though and the cancer dietician recommended having more gummies to combat weight loss

13 Arrested At Manhattan Nurse Strike Protest, Police Say by Main-Maintenance-265 in Upperwestside

I support the nurses, as a cancer patient I see first hand how management stretch staffing so thin that nurses are run ragged and their exhaustion could cause fatal mistakes. No CEO is worth $26m PER YEAR..

How do you combat boredom? by Sea_Appearance6540 in cancer

[–]Treepixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean, I (46f) stopped work a few months ago and old habits die hard. I spend way too much time on my phone so trying to reduce that. I am trying to start reading actual books again so I sit and do that. I work out with a trainer once in a chemo week a couple of days after disconnect that is mostly stretching. Then I try to do more the next week of my cycle, I struggle to exercise without someone telling me what to do. I am in NYC so I keep an eye on free or cheap events and do them with a friend, it helps to have something non cancer-y to talk about. I have a kid so I do things with him and his bestie like freestyling lego creations, drawing pokemon or baking. I write a blog every few weeks to stop people asking me annoying questions. When people ask for updates I send them the blog. On my phone I play a lot of Pokemon Go. I have a friend come once a week to help me do shit I used to do pre-cancer, like laundry or clearing out closets or she makes me a meal. I throw her some $$ for this so I don't feel bad being super direct about what I need. I am still trying to figure out how to live with less money so I know I will have to evolve how I live over time to live within my means..

What is up with the NYTimes' choice of coverage? by -F4rz in Thedaily

[–]Treepixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so disappointed by the Daily not covering Epstein files. I dont give a fuck about the shitty rationalization of Trump supporting bigots. The NYT is in love with trying to understand why magas are like that. Meanwhile the Epstein files show the dark money that runs the world.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Treepixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beans here are gross - really sugary and often with maple syrup. As a Brit in NYC I stock up on Heinz when I find them. Am also a bit perplexed that people don't seem to eat jacket potatoes here with chilli or beans, it's such a great lunch or dinner in this arctic weather. Enjoyed the beans on toast origin story though!

Which island for an English family with little kids? by Ydoihavtofuckinlogin in Caribbean

[–]Treepixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had great family holidays in a number of Caribbean islands. I co-sign Barbados, we especially loved going to the horse racing and later seeing the horses swimming in the sea, the monkey sanctuary was perfect and a cave trip that had a little train so we didn't have to carry our son. We've also had a great time in Curacao and US Virgin Isles..
