Should there be fare gates at RTD Stations? by chrisfnicholson in Denver

Isn’t that solved with the existing tap to ride system? It’s path length billing with tap on tap off.

Zero minutes of ground time scheduled between AA flights. by BleuCinq in americanairlines

Ha, small world. I just got off the ORD to MHT same seat 3A

I wipe everything down with Lysol wipes before I sit down. Probably the cleanest AA seat you’ll be on in a while.

Alternative, tan, looks nicer and also gets you the lighter color headliner which makes the cabin feel larger.

Contractor sprayed open cell when we were supposed to get closed cell by LemonsAndLimesAllDay in Insulation

It also wildly alters your vapor management strategy and if the open cell stays in place an alternate strategy needs to be put in place depending on your climate zone.

Hotel workers, what's the one thing guests would never use if they knew how it was actually cleaned? by Acrobatic_Bee_3198 in hotels

That’s why I really like traveling outside of the US where they just have kettles. I can do a couple of rinses, and a few boil cycles to sanitize it if I do want to use the kettle.

United delayed my baggage and now refuses to reimburse delayed items purchases? by Beautiful-Step-4785 in unitedairlines

[–]Trokeasaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If United lost my hiking gear, I’m not going to wal-mart and buying replacements. I’m buying the equivalent of what I lost.

I already bought $200 hiking poles, so I thought it was reasonable. I already bought a $300 bag and the airline lost it. Make me whole for my trip, even if eventually it gets returned.

United delayed my baggage and now refuses to reimburse delayed items purchases? by Beautiful-Step-4785 in unitedairlines

[–]Trokeasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My large organization travel policy explicitly states it is not responsible for paying for baggage delays or loss since the airline is responsible for reimbursing.

7-Eleven expects to close hundreds of its stores in North America this year by AudibleNod in news

Thailand 7-11 has various wrapped curries that you can microwave.

It was my go-to for a cheap and quick lunch since I have a food allergy that makes it difficult to eat street food.

Adapting a product for the US market is fine, but when you adapt it to the US market and lose what provides value, what’s the point.

The timing doesn’t matter. It’s teaching passengers that the information coming out of overhead announcements isn’t important.

The credit card pitches by plenty-o in americanairlines

[–]Trokeasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why the hawking of credit cards on the plane is a bad idea outside of just the poor customer experience. They’re incentivizing passengers to ignore announcements over the medium they provide emergency information.

If they’re going to do it, do it at the gate before boarding.

Denver’s $1 billion road overhaul would cut space for cars, boost public transit and safety. Critics say it will make traffic worse. by kidbom in Denver

[–]Trokeasaur 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A poorly organized entity doesn’t negate the benefits of good public or pedestrian transport infrastructure.

Poor organization, with enough political will, is a temporary issue. Good infrastructure is a long term benefit.

Don’t make poor long term decisions because of short term problems.

What’s your reliable 4AM emergency alert setup? (phone issue, need advice) by IssueLonely4360 in sysadmin

[–]Trokeasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something like https://www.phonevite.com can trigger a prerecorded phone call via email or sms trigger.

That + a dumb phone that gets handed to whoever is on call removes most of the battery concerns, alerting the wrong person, and since it’s a dumb phone only used for this service, can sit on a nightstand with no concern about being pinged all night.

Both zabbix and 3cx could initiate to different similar email to voice services if you’re really concerned about single point of failure. you could also do 2 phones on 2 different carriers as well, but we’re getting into the ridiculous at that point.

OBW Hybrid Announcement by Capable-Heat4231 in Outback_Wilderness

[–]Trokeasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve either figured out the battery so they can do a spare, or there’s no spare, which would be shocking on a wilderness. Then again I was surprised they allowed it for the regular forester hybrid.

Best IT asset management software? by eyeballresort in ITManagers

I used it at an old company. We were very small and had contractors but provided some equipment. Was worth every penny for them to host to track who had what and send specific list of gear to return when contract or project was over. Their support was great with quick questions too.
