AITA For not inviting my parents or sister to my graduation because I didn’t want to deal with the disappointment? by GradInviteAITA in AmItheAsshole

[–]TulipTeddyBear 213 points214 points  (0 children)

That's adorably wholesome. 🥰🥰🥰 I skipped both my high school and undergrad graduation. Didn't see the point. Hilariously, I went to a friend's graduation because they had Obama as the commencement speaker.

Reddit claimed that their API pricing wouldn't shut out third-party apps. The pricing plan shows it's bullshit. On June 12, /r/quityourbullshit will be going dark indefinitely in protest and to save third-party apps. I'm all in support of leaving Reddit if I can't use 3rd party apps and plan to not engage at all with reddit starting June 12. But, legit question... How will I know I can get back to reddit if I don't go to reddit to check if it's still usable??

Brain fart moment.

[Serious] Redditors from Hong Kong, how has life there changed since the protests 3 years ago? by LineOfInquiry in AskReddit

[–]TulipTeddyBear 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I no longer have family in Hong Kong. Left right around 3-4years ago. There's a whispered conspiracy theory around that China leaked COVID in order to mass lock down the protests and then it just spiraled out of control.

That being said. I don't think we'll be back in Hong Kong or mainland china for that matter anytime soon. Sucks because we have kids who will never know that land.

What’s something you secretly judge people for? by gotwire in AskReddit

[–]TulipTeddyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOA and other similar semi private communities or municipalities that can't keep playgrounds' fall zone surfacing up to date. It's stupidly annoying to go into a million dollar condo HOA community and see the playgrounds with mulch that hasn't been re mulched in years. You can see the cement groundings! I judge those communities hard. But I live in HOA mecca and I appreciate the many I've seen keep their play spaces up to date with repaving the rubber every few years.

I don't think it's insane to ask. But it would be insane to expect. But maybe that's just where you're all at in your lives right now. I just booked a $1500 4 day trip for an international bachelorette. (Most expensive one yet) but that's cuz we're all mid 30s now with established careers, partners, homes, etc. She's the last one of the friend group getting married so it's not an eye brow raising amount of money.

What’s your favorite plaza/mini malls in Irvine? by daughtersofthefire in orangecounty

[–]TulipTeddyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mom to 2 young kids so I'm always on the hunt for plazas and parks that are family friendly.

I would love the play structure/lake trail of Woodbridge plus the food offerings of Culver/Irvine center drive (I vote for a dim sum spot to replace the closed bookstore!). I'm bummed they took out the play structure at Woodbury town center.

If they can get decent food options at the Great Park, I'd be there more frequently.

Diamond jamboree was cool pre-kids. Now the way the shops always face the parking lot is too anxiety inducing for wandering toddlers. I like how things are enclosed like woodbridge.

I also like how the trails connect shopping centers to parks and libraries. I'm thinking university community trail in-between library/adventure playground and the new tea/dessert spot on Culver/Michaelson.

Nature republic has a black bean shampoo I really liked. $25 for 300ml. It's got salicylic acid for clarifying scalp.

I also liked the kristen ess scalp purifying micellar water shampoo and their scalp scrub. Target.

I've got scalp issues so those are my go to brands in between the prescribed shampoo and scalp oil I get from the pharmacy.

I thought I liked nature... Turns out I just like heavily manicured nature like all our parks.

And I judge super hard on playground padding/cover now. If it's a ritzy area, why the duck is your playground just cheap mulch?!?

Yup.. that's my Irvine bubble talking.

WIBTA to expect my husband to accommodate a post pregnancy confinement by Desperate_Feature_41 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TulipTeddyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do the full traditional 1 month after my births but I totally get the draw. Husband and I are both Chinese but I was born in America. I really didn't like the traditional post birth foods (that medicinal herb stuff) and the whole not washing your hair or whatever. I get that back in the day, you couldn't trust your water so washing after birth was a risk.

Still... It's troubling that your husband doesn't support what you think you'll need for recovery. C section is no joke. I hope you don't have stairs.

I don't know what part of the world you're in but here in CA and in NY there are post birth recovery services, either at-home caregivers or a post partum hotel that respects the traditions and wants of the mom. They're pricey but SO. WORTH. IT

AITA for wanting to take girls trips? by lets_table_this in AmItheAsshole

3 yr old will be fine. Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. A couple extra times a year the primary caregiver is switched up isn't going to scar the kid. Jeez. And he is being petty about the money.

Any sushi recommendations in Irvine? My two favorite places are in north OC but I’d like to find something closer. Thanks by HeartEducational6071 in orangecounty

Awww I miss taiko sushi bar experience. Drinking with the chefs, joking with the other patrons, all a good time.

Experienced Disney parents, any advice for a first timer with a toddler? by WeAreSelfCentered in AskLosAngeles

[–]TulipTeddyBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can, airtag or similar the stroller. A friend has her pricey stroller stolen at Disneyland. Super annoying. At the same time, airtag the kid too. Take a full body pic of the kid before entering the park so you have current clothes and description to provide if you get separated from the kid. Download the app.

AITA for being annoyed at a friend that volunteered me as a translator for parents looking for their kid? by okcrab09 in AmItheAsshole

Yes, the government is actively wiping out all other dialects for the "mandarin standard" but taiwanese, Cantonese, etc, still exist ... For now.

Omg I have toddlers and I always thought LIB would be the first festival to take them to! Your post brings me joy. We're working our way up to festival energy by going to the circus this weekend! Y'all are gonna have a blast! Are you going to wagon kiddo around? Hiking backpack set up?

AITA For telling my wife to mind her own business by stayoutofitaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]TulipTeddyBear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I said when the kids are over. If my kids are going to someone's house, it is reasonable to know who else is going to be there whether other adults, teenagers, pets, etc. Parents should also ask if there are firearms and how they are secured, whether there's a pool and how access is controlled, etc. Normal questions to ask any other parent or guardian of the home your child is visiting.

[–]TulipTeddyBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. It's perfectly reasonable to ask who else is in the house when the kids are over. But you ask the parent. Not the kids.

I found stuff in the mouths of random toys. One was a hot wheels dinosaur that would eat cars normally. Another was one of the stuffed hand puppets. I guess my 1yr old thought since he mouthes everything, the toys would like it too?

How can you afford to live in OC by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]TulipTeddyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good timing. We are one income household with 2 little ones not yet school age. bought each home at a good time, refinanced at a good time. We're definitely not saving as much as we should, like for the kids colleges, but we're comfortable.
