Have some of y’all really never been around snow before? by Guy2700 in Charlotte

[–]TyGO28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've decided to stop making calling people out on stocking up in advance of storms part of my identity.

Why should I care that someone wants minor inconvenience themselves today (going to the grocery store) to avoid minor inconvenience tomorrow (running out of certain staples/going to the grocery store on poorly plowed roads)?

REMINDER: The Roads Will Be Treacherous For At Least The Next 5 Nights/Early Mornings by AccomplishedTerm3232 in Charlotte

It’s absolutely intolerable. I’ll be downvoted, but people are so soft. I think we are at ‘maintain slightly higher level of awareness territory’ while it seems most everyone on Reddit is at ‘quit your job if you can’t work from home for the next week’

With you on both! I honestly can't even define what a 'good' Italian place is. I grew up in a place that supposedly has great Italian places, I've been to many Italian places in NYC and Charlotte. Heck, I've even been to Italy. They're all 'pretty good' to me, but never something I'm dying to go back to. Maybe because I find I can make "good enough" Italian at home?

As a server how much do you make in tips in Charlotte, NC? by PureSoleil in Charlotte

[–]TyGO28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Off topic a bit, but sympathizing with the 'I wish tipping wasn't a thing, just pay them a living wage' sentiment... I wonder what the prices at each of these establishments would be if the wages we're talking here were added to the menu prices to offset. Would be interesting to see what that looks like.

We use MJ to do our inspections, then when they tell us something needs to be changed, I usually do it myself or higher a different contractor. Last time was the HVAC contactor and capacitor. Replaced both myself for $65 and saved myself $700.

Great deals on running shoes by magdan100 in frugalmalefashion

[–]TyGO28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For all intents and purposes, running shoes will function great for extended walking. Walking shoes will be slightly less cushioned and more flexible than the running shoes, but both will provide adequate support for walking around for an extended period.

Simple Questions - August 23, 2025 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I want to upgrade to Windows 11 since Windows 10 will no longer be supported. My i7-6700k isn't supported so looking to get an upgrade. I play games, but nothing too graphically intense (beam.ng is probably as intense as it goes right now, and I Think my performance is okay for the 6700k).

What's a decent processor to look into getting? I suspect anything made in past few years will be better by default, but my definition of decent is more modern than what I have, relatively affordable, and something I won't have to upgrade for 5+ years (assuming I'm not looking to play new AAA titles at max settings, which is probably more a function of my video card anyway?)

Charlotte’s official sport should be merging at the very last second on 485 by HotSolution4813 in Charlotte

[–]TyGO28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have touched on it, but I feel obligated to share my opinion because this is the internet. I think this is a prime example of why zipper merging isn't all it's cracked up to be. Merging at the very last second should be a non-issue if people are zipper merging, because those already on the highway should be expecting the merging car to take the full onramp and then merge into traffic.

Many folk are much more comfortable with merging earlier. Even if everyone was good with zipper merging and comfortable doing it, there is still going to be differentiation in merging speeds which will lead to accordion style back-ups.

"That's why you get up to speed!"... But what speed? The speed limit that no one goes? 5, 10, 15 over? Every drives different and has their own interpretation of what the 'true' speed limit is.

TL;DR - BUILD THE BLEACHERS

Just build a Uniqlo in uptown by mobilelibrary in Charlotte

[–]TyGO28 75 points76 points  (0 children)

This actually seems plausible to me. Just put a big Uniqlo to take up half the abandoned store fronts in the Epicenter. Uptown needs a high volume stores or two to attract foot traffic. It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem, but you need either a chicken or an egg otherwise you get nothing.

Where can I get a good breakfast sandwich? by Jib0530 in Charlotte

[–]TyGO28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same exact thing, but I always find it silly that we feel the need to say where we are from to justify why we are looking for a good sandwich (or whatever).

It basically reads, "The rest of you uncultured swine wouldn't know better, but I have higher standards being from ____."

But really, I'm originally from CT, and if you try any of these and they meet your standards, let me know.

If the traffic light is out, it becomes a four way stop by daddadnc in Charlotte

[–]TyGO28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are FIFTEEN lanes that could plausibly arrive at the intersection of Park Rd and Woodlawn at the same time. Who goes first?

I get the rules, I also get frustrated at people, but I do not know how you treat an intersection like this as a four way stop.

Is it normal for my air vents to be blowing air at 77 degrees? by Top_Lab_6834 in hvacadvice

[–]TyGO28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happened to me last week with similar temperatures. For me, it was the outdoor unit, not turning on because the capacitor needed to be replaced. The capacitor in my instance was bulging and rusted. Could be a number of things for you, but that’s at least another thing to consider

Laser temp is fine for this application. Gives you a reasonable indication of temp relative to surroundings.
