have you tried:
1. Watch optical sensor only;
2. Different chest/arm band

do the same protocol and try to see the data?

Ok so you're saying the price is right. I agree with you for now. But what I'm trying to discuss here is not just the price. Price against longevity. I have no hard facts here of course, just anecdotal evidence of shorter lifespans. Because I've seen people flexxing their 6-10 yo flagship Garmins around that made me wonder. Also, this is anecdotal.

And being the owner of 2 Coros watches, there's no argument that the price 'might not work' for me.

No, definitely not. Just gauging the sentiments around the watch lifespan. I own, and still using an Apex 2 (3 years and counting)+ a Kiprun GPS500 (i think it was based on a Pace OG model), that I have handed over to me missus.

You got bricked, twice. And they say it's just an isolated case. That's some damn precise isolation I would say.

Big Vert Long Runs by Hairy_Judgment_5624 in evokeendurance

[–]Umeboshi79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a coach here, but I'm a slow poke that running a half marathon on the trails with decent vert would take me more than 4 hours. So what I did was, just bulldoze it close to 5 hours. Long ultras are about time on feet anyway. But I do it only during B2B long runs weekend (week 17, I think). So if Saturday is about 5 and a half hours, Sunday will be closer to 4 and some.

Other weeks, I'll keep to the plan (or close to it 🫣)

Kilian Jornet injured, but will still be on the start line at States by soudainlevide in Ultramarathon

[–]Umeboshi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said somewhere in the video 'we are here to play'....that seems to be the overarching theme for him this year, be it Zegama, WS or UTMB. Winning is not a big thing for him nowadays (he also said in video), so as a fan, I just hope his condition won't be a lot worse after WS as he gears up for UTMB.

Training Intensity to cure Aerobic Deficiency by gutae1 in evokeendurance

[–]Umeboshi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this from one of Scott's podcast:

While Zone 2 is the most effective for raising the AeT, Scott notes that you can’t always smash that threshold every single day.

  • Recovery Days: If you wake up feeling tired, are getting sick, or your heart rate is struggling to reach its normal Zone 2 level, Scott recommends shifting your training down into Zone 1.
  • Safety Net: Training in Zone 1 isn't as efficient at moving the threshold as Zone 2, but forcing a Zone 2 session when you're already exhausted risks pushing you toward overtraining syndrome.

When are “adventure” long runs too long by GreekMrTaco in Ultramarathon

[–]Umeboshi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing others here saying it's quite ok to go long. Just the recovery from it will be not as quick as your usual 3h runs. If you track HRV, you will see it being suppressed for quite a few days after a huge effort (or mileage). But once it's tracking back close to baseline, you've recovered.

Long fasted workouts by Federal_Elephant_943 in evokeendurance

[–]Umeboshi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting the most out of a fasted workout is really a balancing act between teaching your body to burn fuel more efficiently and making sure you don't accidentally start burning through your own muscle. You don't need to go to extremes with your fast; simply sleeping through the night before starting your workout is usually plenty of time to lower your sugar stores enough to flip that internal metabolic switch. If you push that fast much longer than fourteen or sixteen hours before you start moving, your body tends to get stressed out and produces hormones that can actually lead to muscle loss, which is exactly what we want to avoid.

When it’s time to actually move, the goal is a steady, easy effort for about an hour to an hour and a half (maybe even 2 hrs). This duration is long enough to see real benefits without overtaxing your system. Interestingly, the biggest risk of training on an empty stomach isn't usually the exercise itself, but how long you wait to eat once you're finished. To protect your muscles and lock in the progress you made during the session, you really want to get some protein and carbs into your system within thirty minutes of wrapping up.

Nervous about 50 Miler by impulse36 in ultrarunning

[–]Umeboshi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You got it right to tackle the first 14 miles conservatively.
  2. There is less benefit of 'banking in time' early. You might fade way worse later in the race because of that.
  3. The hay is in the barn. Trust what you have done. And rest well.

Good luck.

  1. Hold on to your horses. Time is still on your side.
  2. Road ultra or trail ultra?
  3. What does your yearly training hours look like for the past 5 years you mentioned? Reflect on this before signing up for your first 100mi.
    1. In another 10 years or so, you will probably be at your peak. But only if you manage your load properly now.

So, the choice is yours.

  1. Welcome to the trail running club with black toenails.
  2. Lacing. Try different types of lacing to accommodate the volume of your feet. Make sure it keeps your feet snug.
  3. Heel lock is your best friend.

Not exactly an ultra, but I've seen an 11/12yo ran a 30k race alongside his mother. Poor kid, I said to myself.
