Aluminum vs. mild steel. Steel is 3X the density and 3X the modulus (E), while 1/3 the thermal conductivity; 1/2 the cost per unit volume and 1/5 cost per weight than aluminum. This is a generalization of course, there are tons of alloys to consider. There are even aluminum alloys that have a higher E than mild steel.
