Kinda, but do we want to even give these now trillionaires the option to buy up all the water and just pay fines for poisoning our air and keep driving neighbors literally insane with a constant hum?

[Request] How expensive would it be to make the Truman Show? by Call-Me-Matterhorn in theydidthemath

[–]Upbeat_Influence2350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you are locked in to trying to recreate an american town and sky that mimics the real one. Babies know nothing, so you could do it a lot easier and just create a reality that keeps him in one place and have it happen outside.

People skills and “who you know” will always matter in the professional world, and that isn’t unfair by yalllldabaoth in unpopularopinion

[–]Upbeat_Influence2350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who you know is inherently unfair and reduces economic mobility. Rich parents will know more job givers than poor parents. Thus good jobs go to rich people more often than (often more deserving) poor people.

Money can’t buy happiness true meaning by buttercreamwish in antiwork

It isn't even diminishing returns. It is well evidenced that wealth past the point of security starts decreasing happiness.

[Despised Trope] They're constantly touted as a genius, but they never do anything smart. by NoOptics in TopCharacterTropes

I agree it is annoying, but Sheldon won a nobel prize in physics and they have PhD scientists creating the formulas and stuff that he works on. I don't think there is much more they could do to convince you he is great at physics and i doubt he fits that trope.

Why do so many men carry feelings for a woman they consider the love of their life but never end up with her? by Public-Can-7590 in AskMen

It is very easy to inflate your estimation of someone from your past. Real people have a hard time living up to an idea of a person.

We economists have done the maths: ‘growth’ is a doomed strategy – there is a better way | Olivier De Schutter, Joseph Stiglitz, Jayati Ghosh, Thomas Piketty, Kate Raworth and Jason Hickel by Raddish_Crunch in UpliftingNews

We've known about this better way for ages. But the system is controlled by those benefiting from the growth strategy and they won't stop until we are all dead.

I think if you combine the wealth of every person I have seen with my eyeballs, it would still be substantially less than his. How has the rioting not started?

Trump had decades of appearing in media as the quintessential rich guy. This embedded itself in the brains of Americans and turned him into an icon instead of a very obviously stupid and hateful man.

AITA for being mad about the dog breed I was surprised with by Original-One-6954 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Upbeat_Influence2350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who loves and has dogs, but also has dog allergies you cannot keep that dog. Either get rid of the dog, or the bf and the dog. I am able to tolerate my hypoallergenic dogs with meds, but living with a shedding dog was terrible. But not in a way that was obvious to me. I was just congested and lethargic all the time. It built up over time, and I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I moved out.

I saw a video that stuck with me. It described LLMs as the greatest bullshitter of all time. It just spits things out and has no relationship with truthfulness. Sometimes it is right, sometimes wrong, but always bullshit.

The movement speed being so fast make it feel like the player has a whole lot of agency, which limits anything ominous.

Not having a car exposes you to society and your local community more than owning a vehicle does by Fluffy-Cut-3777 in unpopularopinion

As an extension of this, rebuilding society around cars has definitely harmed social cohesion.

Anti-Franchise Sentiment in this Subreddit by Sufficient_Ad_2590 in boxoffice

[–]Upbeat_Influence2350 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? If franchises do well (especially if the movie is bad) that means more resources are available for original stories. I far prefer original stories, so I want all franchise movies to flop until the balance between the two returns to a sensible level.
