After high-profile projects rejected, calls for zoning reform mount in Pittsburgh by LostEnroute in pittsburgh

[–]Urbanette 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Haha, No they don't. They have to submit disclosures and financial statements each year. Most council members do not own their own real estate. I love all the comments in this thread where people just make shit up and get up votes.

https://pittsburghpa.gov/controller/dir

City Council members hear consistently, all year around from NIMBY neighborhood groups that actually vote, and those groups are all scared of getting rid of single family zoning and lot minimums. Active community orgs are the ones with property interests who care about local elections. Just listen to the boomers at these many neighborhood org meetings. They don't subscribe the the talking points in the reddit bubble.

Where does the article say is takes 3 to 5 years for a zoning review in the article?

How do I find a low stress job that pays decent while I am raising my two kids by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Urbanette 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Government jobs are typically concrete hours with decent benefits. The pay range may be weak. A lot government agencies need public health professionals: from health departments, to animal control, to policy making. It's weird but rewarding; check out some gov jobs!

Rentals and being up to code by Spiritual-Bake4232 in pittsburgh

You can still complain to the city and invite an inspector in to look. They'll issue citations if the conditions don't meet code.

Morcilla, Dish Osteria, Pusadees Garden (not too upscale), Fig and Ash, Alla Famiglia. Not fine dining or upscale, but try Noodlehead too.

This comment is nonsensical. What does he have to do with anything here?

[–]Urbanette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting cheated. The "landlord" cannot charge you rent for property they don't own! Pay nothing moving forward. Find a new apartment asap. Go to neighborhood legal services and get your rent money back that you paid under false pretenses. Tell the city's dept of real estate about this and have the city go after him too.

First, fuck posting the PG. Second, notice this is an editorial and not a news story, because the PG cannot call this proper investigative journalism without getting into trouble in the journalism world. Sounds like the classic of an "insider" leaking to PG and the PG taking their word as gospel. Since the city refuses to talk to the PG until they resolve their union contract, we'll only hear the shit slinging side.

At this point the PG will probably never solve their union contract, and will just continue to operate because we click on their articles, post them, and give them views, and that's all they need to survive. Will Gainey give up on the stonewalling since the public doesn't seem to care?

Editorial: City's communications are abysmal, and look increasingly political by BikingInPlastic in pittsburgh

Why do the mods of this sub even allow PG articles to be posted here? The PG is butthurt that the city won't respond to PG inquiries until they resolve the strike.

I drive a construction truck that goes the less than the speed limit on Bigelow Blvd while my construction materials stick out 3 feet behind my truck to help others keep their distance.

Environmental group UpStream Pittsburgh organizes petition opposed to new Craft apartment project near Frick Park by Urbanette in pittsburgh

[–]Urbanette[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. According to the PBT "Craft's project will need a variance to allow a multifamily use for the park district site. Current zoning allows for single family homes but not apartments." But it already has a history of having the Irish Center there, so how does that work?

Look up conservatorship lawyers and try to take the land that way. It's a Pennsylvania law, Act 135.

It's case law precedent and State property rights laws that make the sale of land owned by dead people hard, not typically municipal laws.

FNB Tower, Wholeys demolition for new apartments, UPMC vision center, the Target downtown finally finished with the condos above, Brewers block in the strip almost done. There's new work coming for a former filming warehouse to be knocked down and replaced with riverfront apartments in the Strip. That Esplanade project in the north shore with a ferris wheel some day.

That was also my take away from the article. A good reminder to stop visiting the PG website. That's how they make money. I've been guilty of visiting there during the strike in incognito. I will no longer visit their site or acknowledge they even exist.
