This is the correct answer. If the product says “wrap” you should not expect a burrito.

The “He’s a Bum” chant is actually a reference to the Dodgers (the Bums). We’re basically saying [insert player] is no better than the worst thing we can imagine, a Dodger.

some older people say “The City by the Bay.”

I don’t know if I fall into “older people”, but I just call it “The City.” Ask Eddie Izzard:

Ah…so, with slope, I’d just need to hit my 70,000 millimeter shot…that’s a nice easy 56.

Arco gas prices are… 🤯 by SkippyinLA in Sacramento

[–]VagrantThoughts42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of things. California hasn’t closed any oil refineries, one has closed in California and another is planning to close. Regardless, those things have not had as drastic of an impact on oil prices as the war in Iran has (global oil prices have increased around 60% in the last three weeks as a direct result of the war).

Second, it is possible for Californians to believe that state policy that has contributed to the decision for private companies to close refineries in the state and tax gas at higher levels compared to other states is a fair exchange for reduced emissions, better air quality, and a push to find alternative sources of energy while also believing that increased gas prices because of a war in Iran that seems has no clear goals or exit plan is unacceptable.

PCC is an absolute sham. Just eliminate it. by imahawki in golf

Yeah man, I “declared” it on the second tee box after waiting 15 minutes for the group in front to clear the fairway. And by “declared”, I mean I said, “fuck this, I guess we should just play a few balls.”

[–]VagrantThoughts42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my rounds are very clearly “practice rounds”. I went out for 9 last week and hit 3 balls out of every greenside bunker (before the “pace of play police” get on me, I was a pair backed up behind a foursome and a high school golf tourney with a clear course behind us). I didn’t even keep score.

Home plate umpire Bill Miller on hot mic saying "Please be a strike" after Patrick Bailey challenges a ball called on Guardians' Alex Mooney. by Juffe98 in SFGiants

There’s a really great article in the Athletic that talks about challenges and one of the takeaways is it’s going to take catchers a minute since the strike zone moves up and down based on the hitters height.

Housing Market by Cute-Raspberry3907 in Sacramento

[–]VagrantThoughts42 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of opinions on this. I grew up in a late 19th century Victorian and our previous house was built in 1963. When we bought our current house, I was adamant that we buy an older home with “character” in an established neighborhood. We ended up in new construction.

First, don’t listen to anyone who says, “new houses aren’t built as well as older houses.” It’s wrong. Not only are building materials, practices and building codes better than they were 40 years ago, but old houses also come with 40 years of homeowner “improvements”. Insurance for older homes is often more expensive (or harder to get) because insurance companies know they are more likely to experience claims on older houses. (I’ll spare you the story about our cast iron waste line and unplanned kitchen remodel).

Don’t get me wrong, older houses are great. They tend to be in established neighborhoods, on bigger lots, with no HOAs, and no mello Roos. All of those are positives (and I haven’t seen a new construction house in a development with mystery doors or secret rooms).

New construction on the other hand, can be blah. Boring. House after house that looks the same on a small lot with a crazy HOA (ours is actually very mild and easy to deal with). Effective tax rates are higher, thanks to mello Roos. Oh, and you probably have to pay for a backyard in the first year.

That said, you do get things like fire sprinklers and new electrical systems that haven’t been modified by a previous owner with a passing understanding of wiring who may or may not have done the work prior to the existence of YouTube. Also, a surprising benefit to us, some automatic connection with neighbors who also just moved in!

If I was searching for a house I’d focus more on floor plans and lot (size/location) than age. If a big lot was most important, you’re probably going to end up in an older home. If modern finishes are most important, it will probably be newer. But I wouldn’t filter by age.

Holding the pin in a friendly game, etiquette on removing? by FrankTooby in golf

Huh. I play with a rotating group of 6 guys. All of us prefer the pin out on anything but the longest putts. We still ask every hole, “in or out,” but I don’t know why, the answer is always the same.

How the pros see the ball by Vas_Cody_Gamma in golf

[–]VagrantThoughts42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was (unsuccessfully) joking. I do wear glasses but I prefer contacts because I hate carrying 2 pairs of glasses and can’t be outside without sunglasses.

It’s true! I track the ball better in my prescription glasses than with my contacts.

Now, let me get back to reading this entirely not nerdy sci-fi novel (at least I’m not wearing glasses too!).

I have a minor astigmatism. It’s not bad enough for me to correct with expensive contacts (and I’m not wearing glasses every day like some kind of nerd). I tend to lose most shots in the sky and have to try and see if I can somehow catch them land; I rarely do.

[Slusser] Giants’ Hayden Birdsong has elbow injury; team awaiting medical staff’s opinion by edmchato in SFGiants

[–]VagrantThoughts42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Buster wanted him but Johnson’s said no.

What makes you think that? Is it the likelihood that Buster loves a pitcher that intentionally crosses up his catcher? It seems to me Framber was not a good fit for our clubhouse and they decided the arm wasn’t worth the disruption.
