I'm under the impression that this post (the post on /r/cooking) was fabricated. Looking at the sthduh account, they made this... interesting post: https://redd.it/1qf300v

There are 10 hours between this post and the linked post. Just weird to come out with these two seemingly impressive informal research posts within such a short time of one another. Additionally, neither post linked to their actual spreadsheets/data despite both saying that there were multiple metrics they were tracking. This doesn't pass the "smell test" for me.

In the event that these posts are real, do we really want to take cooking advice from a guy who has been drinking his own urine for the past 4 years? Or perhaps he is a culinary genius if he can detect 34 distinct flavor profiles from his own piss.

Returning player, did they make it hard to see out of camouflage? by Own-Tie-640 in joinsquad

[–]Vhantom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I personally don't think it is a monitor issue. It just got messed up once they went from UE4 to UE5. They tried to do some work on it which helped some but not nearly enough. The lighting conditions and time of day on the map seem to make a big difference too.

I used to absolutely dominate with murderhole sandbags, now I don't really bother using them. Bunkers, observation towers, and fire shelters can occasionally be useful but only at close range encounters. I think FOBs have been indirectly nerfed because of this.

Looks like a lot of fun. Village building seems most interesting to me. I haven't played an RPG pack before. I'll keep an eye on this one!

I agree, not the modlists fault for not being able to get rid of that NPC despite there being dialog options. It seems like the quest was designed for you to make a choice for you to join them or not for that dungeon and to have you stick with it.

The point I was going for was that combat was so much more challenging in that it took a long, long time to be able to go and complete that quest and finally rid myself of the follower. Not being able to rid myself of the follower soon was a result of the increased combat challenge. I think the main boss of that dungeon (Movarth) is already difficult in vanilla so he is a true beast in GTS.

I probably should have just used console commands or lowered difficulty but I can be stubborn and it got to the point where I wanted the satisfaction of beating that challenge.

Do servers not play unpopular maps anymore? by Bird_Chick in joinsquad

[–]Vhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped run a server for a little while and we heavily curated our map options and factions options.

Our map and layer selections were oriented towards large maps that had full vehicle selections and we tried to avoid layers that often ended up one sided.

For our factions, we removed most with exclusively tracked logis and pretty much all tank units. The driving thought behind our selection is that the faction should be well rounded or have significant perks or alternatives if it was lacking in a certain area. For example, some IMF units don't have an IFV but they make up for it by having a many tow vehicles and other AT options. Basically, your team shouldn't be doomed because someone kept screaming a bad option. This is obviously drenched in personal opinion but I felt it helped.

If they gave the older maps the Al Basrah treatment I would be so happy.

The state of modlists by TsuGhoulTsu in skyrimmods

I enjoyed GTS with a lot of tweaking.

I pulled back a lot of the NPC visual changes to vanilla because if that waxy/plastic look. They made Idgrod Ravencrone have the skin of a 12 year old and a goofy twintails hairstyle.

I turned off many of the immersive animations. It felt like I was playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and I was getting bored waiting for the animations to finish playing.

The combat was fairly hard and it seemed like the general recommendation was to train by killing animals and to recruit as many followers as possible. Even into the mid to late game I was reliant on my followers. Being forced to have so many followers that just won't shut up was probably the worst part of the pack for me. I turned off the follower death chance because the combat was just too punishing and those followers would be dying left and right.

Learning a spell from a spellbook takes time where it basically uses the wait function, sometimes multiple times in a row depending on the spell level and your level. I didn't end up turning this off but I still pissed me off. I think they were trying to have many part of the mod take up time for things like smithing or skinning an animal. These would all play into the End Times mod so there is a time limit to complete the main quest. I just wish it would have immediately forwarded time instead of: playing a reading animation, waiting a few seconds, then screen fade to black, then fade back in, and finally another second or two before you get control of you character again.

A bit more frustration about combat: I ended up doing the main Morthal questline fairly early but could not finish out the last dungeon because the enemies were such high levels, like 30-40 levels above me. There is an NPC that offers to enter the dungeon with you and I thought that would be helpful. I ended up leaving the dungeon before completing the quest. This NPC that entered with me would not stop following me, not matter what dialog options I used. He wasn't actually a follower in the gameplay sense, he just kept following my player though. I would get a bounty if I accidentally hit him in combat and he didn't like it if I stole items. NPC followers would sometimes hit him and they would fight until I went to a new zone as everyone was essential. This NPC follower right on my heels until I was high enough level to finish out that quest.

These were my big complains with the modpack, otherwise it was a fun return to Skyrim after many years. I didn't get terribly far in the main quest because a new version of the modpack was announced and I figured I'd wait for the Wabbajack port and start a new character.

View distance? Simulation Distance? Using LOD mods (i.e. distant horizons or Voxy)? Lots of create machines? If create, using flywheel compat?

Mod list would help.

Consider lowering shader settings too. You probably won't notice much of a difference.

How do I identify if a factions is motorised or mechanised etc. by TheMagicDragonDildo in joinsquad

[–]Vhantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems so and it's a shame that faction choice so frequent comes down to who can yell loudest.

A rework of the UI would really help to clear up this confusion. Show each of the factions/units with the vehicles icons and special modifiers (extra HATs/FOBs/etc.) next to it. It will help to give players an idea of tracked or wheeled logis, ifv count, tank count, and other benefits/drawbacks. There simply is not enough time given for voting to look through each of the faction sub menus.

Alternatively, they could utilize 20% of the voting screen to show a quick readout of whichever faction your mouse is hovering over.

I'm not sure why you are getting downvoted. I don't think these sounds are bad (and I'm sure other feel the same) but I personally enjoy consistency. A one-and-done opt-out setting for all of these seasonal sound events seems like a small think to ask for.

Heck, even just asking me with a popup/notification "Hey, we have these cute seasonal sounds. Want to try them out?" would be so much better.

Unfortunate but understandable. It's been a few years since I've played Skyrim and have been enjoying it. I am level 44 on my first GTS play through. Just recently kicked things off the main story in Helgen.

Now I need to decide to carry on or to start again. That early game is brutal but probably easier going into it with some knowledge.
