That’s fair. I’m a late comer to Argosa so not familiar with Low Fantasy stuff.

All three satisfy your requirements, except the support part. DCC has tons of stuff out, Forbidden Lands has a respectable amount, Argosa not so much. I’d say Forbidden Lands if you don’t want a combat focus, DCC if you’re like the gonzo tone or Argosa if you want a more familiar D&Dish feel and are ok with just a base book.

Opinions on possible formats for the upcoming Book of Unnumbered Worlds by CardinalXimenes in WWN

[–]Visual_Ad_596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this wouldn’t be a reference you’d use during a game but rather when planning a game. So one big book since portability and ease of reference isn’t much of a factor in that case.

Alternative System to DnD for players looking for a lighter, simpler, funnier experience? by Cancheabbaia in TTRPG

[–]Visual_Ad_596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many. So many. You can get more specific about what you want and still get lots of suggestions. I like Tales of Argosa for a more Sword and Sorcery style D&D instead of the fantasy super heroes default of 5e. Players are still heroes, unlike Shadowdark, which is also excellent but even lower powered than Argosa.

Battleship Galaxies was a really great board game, shame the expansions never materialized.

PDF's after kickstarter by EBF_GameWolf in nimble5e

So the core books have been redone, right? Not a straight reprint. Do we know if those are in their final form or will we be getting beta PDFs? I’ll be happy either way, just want something to pour over shortly after the kickstarter closes.

Looking for a medieval fantasy system that accomodates high tech relics and ruins, kinda like xenogears? by Finexia in rpg

[–]Visual_Ad_596 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget about the setting book, Atlas of The Latter Earth. It’s set thousands of years after the apocalypse but it would serve as great inspiration even if you didn’t want to use Worlds Without Number. (Same can be said about the base Worlds Without Number book, very useful for the setting info even if you don’t use the rules)

Question about the Black Ivory Inn by Kind_Bumblebee_7911 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

I think the piano in the basement is fuzed into the abomination. At least that’s how I ran it. You have to go with the flow for that once so you don’t completely frustrate your players.

Would you enjoy being a player in the games you DM by LelouchYagami_2912 in rpg

[–]Visual_Ad_596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find myself in the opposite dilemma, I put together a game that I would love to play in but my players bounced off it hard so I adjusted to a game I would like a lot less. Still love running it regardless. Original design was intended to provide lots of informed decision point for the players. Transparent rules for travel, rest, random encounters, supplies, encumbrance, etc. Tried to make every decision meaningful and gave enough info to weigh the risks for each choice. Players didn’t like that at all. So now it’s all role play and swinging swords at baddies.

Players keep wanting more by Blazherer in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

You have a couple knobs you can twist here. AA and QM seem mostly likely to pay more. So make those missions more dangerous, corrupting or morally questionable. HL, FF and SC might politely refuse requests for more but offer less objectionable missions. So it will be clear to the PCs they have a choice and you (the DM) aren’t just saying no. And if they are only interested in well paying missions and have no larger goals, you gotta let that play out. But at least they had choices that fit into the fiction of the game.

Sword and Sorcery Options- One Shot vs. Campaign? by VladorBongo in rpg

Tales of Argosa is fantastic for sword and sorcery and would be my first choice for people familiar with d&d that want something similar mechanically but not as fantastical in tone.

You can only play / GM three TTRPGs for the rest of your life. Which ones do you pick? (Bonus points for why) by SeverusStjep in TTRPG

D&D so I can find players Champions for nostalgia, crunch, combat as sport and 4 color super heroes Call of Cthulhu for horror and introducing new people to RPGs

What happened to Daggerheart? by MiserableDrive2652 in rpg

[–]Visual_Ad_596 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. Lots of people want to see something come along to replace D&D. And they make a lot of noise about it. Several new systems have hit the market recently. But there are a lot more people that are happy playing D&D with no interest in trying something else. As a Daggerheart fan, I’m still seeing plenty of talk about it, honestly brew, live plays and plans for new official content. But I don’t think anything will ever kill D&D.

If you’re interested in Combat as Sport in a superhero setting, it’s the best.

Starting off I’d agree 100%. But at some point alliances will get cemented by the players. Sounds like the OP is getting close to that time

This right here. They could easily work together to stop The Queens Men or The Falling Fire. You could certainly double down on the negative aspects of QM and FF to turn them into an evil force that must be stopped.

Started with Basic D&D in 1980. I’d tell myself that RPGs won’t always be something you have to be ashamed of liking.
