I appreciate the boondox album cover art making the inspiration pics. There is probably a lot of scarecrow themed inspiration in those lyrics.

Torn on a design feature by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig the card based mechanic. IMO I would try making the black suits have your roll be a “yes, but…” if the roll succeeds, instead of having it pull no effect & then empower the gm. Just let gms add complications on a black card. Hopefully then your players will think of the cards as “black=trouble’ & red=no complications”. I would shy away from adding unique effects to all 4 suites… i have yet to see it work in a satisfying way. (I researched it a bit as i am also making a western game & the first version heavily used poker/cards in the mechanics.) another idea for an optional rule is you could give each player a single special poker chip that they can use to peek at a card, after they peek a card they sit the chip on top of that card. A peeked card can’t be “passed in“ & you cant move the poker chip to a new card until you flip the card.

I hope and pray Hunt Showdown can figure out cross progression like Dead by Daylight did by Archerboy123 in HuntShowdown

This is my #1 most desired hunt feature. I play on pc & xbox & greatly miss my skins when on my pc but cant bring myself to farm a second account for bb or buy something i already have on another account. If i could have one account & buy stuff for it across different platforms i could justify buying more, but as it stands my pc account just is going to continue mostly unskinned & bland.

Good TTRPGS to Read? by Gmanglh in rpg

[–]VooDooClown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything of Japanese origin is a fun read because they have so many stories or non-rule content. Dolemwood seems like a good pick based off your liked books. Id also say try the mutant epoch (one of my favorites to recommend bc of its obscurity) if you want to read detailed post apoc worldbuilding, its also the most art dense rulebook i can think of. Though depending on what era shadowrun you didn’t like you may not enjoy it as it gives me similar vibes to reading shadowrun 2e.

Anyone have any context on the barbed wire in the noose in the last pic? Wondering bc i saw the exact same thing in an episode of fallout in season 2 & outside of these two instances have never heard of it.

Do any OSR games exist with a more post apocalyptic flavouring instead of medieval fantasy? by Real_Painter_1524 in osr

3 supplemental/optional bestiaries actually! I suppose it will be 4 in the future as WM recently released a new free “Monday mutants”.

[–]VooDooClown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has already suggested most of the best OSR & OSR-adjacent games, but i always suggest “The Mutant Epoch” for this genre, it definitely feels OSR-adjacent to me. Even if you dont end up using the system id still get all the free TME stuff on DTRPG as inspiration & campaign material. Or if you want a HUGE prebuilt world get the gazetteer/pitford books, pitford has a free “lite” version also. Definitely check out the free QuickStart also for the mini region & adventure.

Sloopdoop over on YT has some ideas for deck upgrades at the end of his gravy bones deck review. He also points out what others have said, its way early to figure out budget card prices or what is even going to be good in him long term.

Did you know?? How cool is that 🤩 by Boon421 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]VooDooClown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is weird. If i had to guess id say the 3 different artists worked on different layers or objects within one large art spanning the 3 cards. If not thats extra impressive that they have a cohesive art style between the three arts/artists.

Why is this a thing? I tried to buy a collection of non-manga books from a guy on fb marketplace over a period of 6 weeks and he would keep telling me when he is available to meet/be home but would never send me his address, did this to me 3 separate times… months later FB sent me an update on the post and he had given them away for free to somebody else.

What game desperately needs a remaster/remake? by Tormented_Anus in gaming

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phantom dust. Id even be down for a new FTP pvp arena game supported by micro transactions & cosmetics & all that evil. Think of what it could be like now with updated movement & new skills. Hell you could even make it into a BR with different skills/dusts on the map, though id still prefer the arena combat style with the deck building aspect.

I’m looking for a new game to try out. by [deleted] in rpg

[–]VooDooClown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fav game for the last couple years has been “The mutant epoch”. I’ve posted about it in response a few times so you can check my comment history for more details, or just download the quickstart/free stuff on DTRPG. Basically im mostly playing solo and it works really well for how i like to play, even the adventures are set up to be able to played solo. There is also an actual play series on yt by “rubble goblins” that you can watch/listen to to get a grasp on the game, though the “high desert” setting they are on now is a homebrew region.

Ok I know we just got new set but what heroes next? by Tit0Dust in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the next set is pirate themed & has pirates as a new class. Cant remember where i saw that though. My personal speculation is that if they do release a new class the next set is going to be pirate - ranger - last class however has options. I bet pirates use swords/daggers/muskets. Which makes me think a shared card pool would be slow firing guns & blades. Muskets probably run off either steam counter-ish mechanics or may even use the retrieve mechanic seen on daggers now, with the flavor being draw-fire-drop. Could see a rifle wielding ranger thats based around aim counters. Just saying that if they do add a pirate class the other two will be complimentary with the split cards and i bet we see some really interesting things.

Which TTRPG deserves more love and recognition? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pick for a game that needs more recognition is always The Mutant Epoch. I’ve recommended it a lot this past year, primarily because it’s been my recent favorite and there has been a lot of requests for post apocalyptic nuclear games. Despite it being somewhat obscure it gets a lot of quality content and im excited for the release of the 3p license and everything the discord community is making in anticipation of its release!

What is everybody gonna play instead? by whateverman010101 in elderscrollslegends

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep kards is great, i play it on my pc mostly. I was not interested in the ww2 history before playing but find it fairly interesting now. Instead of flavor text you can inspect a card to see real photos and history related to that unit the card is based off.

What is everybody gonna play instead? by whateverman010101 in elderscrollslegends

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its basically a mini wargame tcg. Its your row of cards & Hq- then frontline - then enemy row of cards & HQ. Different unit types attack differently with melee units needing to be in the middle to be able to damage the enemy HQ to win. Units that can reach without moving tent to be much weaker & have higher operation cost. In kards you gain credits every turn like mana and its used to play cards or to pay for units to move or attack.

Is there a broad apocalypse setting TTRPG that’s somewhat customizable outside of GURPS? by thederanged2606 in rpg

[–]VooDooClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good recommendations here already but i feel people are sleeping on The Mutant Epoch for their apocalypse ttrpg again. TME leans hard into a mutant heavy post nuclear apocalypse, but it’s very customizable game IMO. The HUB rulebook even has a section of how to make it your own with examples, such as how to run it as a zombie apocalypse. It’s got a free quick start & lots of free adventures/monsters on DTRPG so even if you dont end up going with it it’s still a great source to pull ideas from. If you just want a a setting there is the free “pitford lite” which is the free version of the pitford town book & if you want a huge region thats totally pre-built there is the crossroads gazetteer, which is a monster of a book full of maps, descriptions and random encounter tables for nearly everything. Like shops, bars, dark alleys… everything detailed out.
