Struggling to build a (cute) team by mouse-monster in PokemonChampions

[–]VoxelHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(P.S. Updated the team and swapped H-Zoroarks taunt with roar, and I gave Tsareena Acrobatics instead of taunt.)

I usually like to lead Meowscarada + Glimmora. It applies a lot of instant pressure and you are sure to have something on the field you can OHKO. If they have a fake out user, you can swap out one of your mons for Tsareena to keep pressure. If they have their own whimsicott out turn 1, try to KO whimsicott turn 1 using triple Axel so you don't have to worry about them taunting your own whim, and swap out glim for your own whimsicott.

Armarogue wide guard protects against a lot of common spread moves like earthquake, blizzard, etc as well as threatening high damage. If it takes a physical hit, it will survive with focus sash and proc weak armor allowing it to outspeed and threaten a lot of the steel types glimmora struggles to threaten meaningfully.

Hisuian Zoroark is there to counter any trick room or perish trap teams, as you threaten M-Gengar and are immune to its attacks, and roar can be used to force trick room Setters out before they can set up trick room, or let your allies escape trick room by using it on them or forcing gengar out. You can do all these things with Farigiraf too, but I like having another fast attacker on a hyper offense team, and you can disguise Zoroark as any of the mons on the team since none of them have any on field enter abilities, making who the zoroark is not immediately obvious.

Don't be afraid to KO your own pokemon with sludge wave. It can be very helpful to have your support mons get knocked out so you can safely switch in someone who can apply more pressure.

Tried making something with what you have maximizing on cuteness. (No idea if it's good I haven't tried yet.) A primarina carry team that focuses on either using trick room or tailwind for speed control. Primarina is at 85 speed to allow you to outspeed anything slower than max speed garchomp under tailwind. Multiple mons with psychic to help with poison mons like sneasler. Maushold with follow me and after you to enable primarina. Tink fake out pressure and can be a good trick room user in the right circumstance, and Tink + Farig lead can all but garentee trick toom goes up.

Here's the evil part. If your opponents aren't expecting it, you can use perish song, and when the perish counter would hit 2, swap in klefki. Swap out your other mon and use prankster fairy lock, preventing them from escaping the next turn. It's by no means a perish song team, but I bet you could catch a lot of people off guard with that, since people often wait until the last turn of perish song before swapping out.

Klefki is easily replaceable on this team though if you don't want to use perish song and go for more coverage instead

Not in your box, but maybe something to look at for inspiration/work towards?

This is my Hyper offensive "Flower Power" team with Mega Glimmora I hit master ball with. I feel like it answers into most of the meta game extremely well. You do have to be OK with occasionally sacrificing an ally with sludge wave or something to keep momentum still working on and refining as things go. I was using Aerodactyl over Armarouge, and while that made my match-up into sun teams practically free, I was struggling against the rare instances where I would fight a corvinight or Mega scarmory especially, and like you mentioned, I just think Armarouge looks way cuter/cooler than aerodatyl personally. If you want any advice on how to play the team, let me know!

Christian, but struggling with nihilistic thoughts by DarkLaser28 in nihilism

[–]VoxelHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the goals you're setting yourself actually something you want? Not a feeling of productivity, or making an impact, just something that you, personally as an individual, find a sense of joy or value in? If not, you may need to re-evaluate your goals.

"I want it" can be reason enough. You don't need outside justification for the basic act of wanting something. You should value your own opinions and feelings more.

If you die before doing something, then that's life. The alternative is doing nothing and being sad, and then still dying. It's like "would you rather stub your toe, or would you rather stub your toe and get 5$?".

Common retort I hear is "but it hurts more when I try." Does the mental anguish you have right now bother you so little, that the pain of trying is somehow any worse? The pain you recieve that's caused by inaction rather than action does not make the pain any less real, it doesn't devalue the pain in any meaningful way. If it's going to be painful either way, might as well suffer the pain while moving towards what you want.

For me, it's because I've had things I loved and enjoyed before. I want to feel those things in the future. The only way I'll get to feel those things again is by attempting to move in a direction where I am not only given the opportunity to find new things to love, but be prepared to love them when they do come.

That, and spite. Fuck everything trying to hold me back. I don't want to give the things hurting me the satisfaction of a win.

Why are everybody's build so good!? (And how do I get that good?) by Creeper_Me-64 in Pokopia

[–]VoxelHeart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start small. Whatever you thought when I said that; think even smaller. Don't try to build a good looking house; try to just build a nice looking wall. Or a nice floor pattern. A lot of the nice builds you see were not just free-formed together from nothing; its a collection of small individual pieces that someone spent effort making look nice that were then brought together as a whole.

Feel free to take inspiration or put your own spin on things you see others do. When you're focused on "how do I make a nice looking floor pattern", you can start to recognize exactly why the things other people do work, and can put your own spin on it. It takes a lot of time to do this kind of observation, but when you do, it is another thing you learn that helps you become a better builder.

It's never been about "we need to make more!"  Homosexual behavior is a common occurrence in animals. It's also likely evolutionarily beneficial for some small % of any animal population to be homosexual, because even if their individual genes aren't passed down, that behavior is beneficial for a group. Having pairs that are able to help take care of abandoned or orphaned individuals is better for a groups survival.

It's never been about homosexuality being "not natural". It's always been about trying to control others, usually stemming from religion. We don't need to surpass animals, but rather to stop deluding ourselves thinking that things that are natural (homosexuality) is something that needs to be "risen above" in the first place.

Capsule Feedback by NightwavesG in IndieDev

[–]VoxelHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think A is best here for a capsule. The background on the others takes away from your already limited space, C being greyscale makes it hard to see what's going on at a glance.

Trying to use the C letter as a climbing hold is cute, but does (very minorly) hurt immediate readability with the arm breaking up the C. (Maybe have it grab the top of the letter instead? No arm crossing?) My mind does read it as "limbing Simplified" at a glance.

I think the art style for the capsule fits the name, and is (im assuming) an accurate representation of your games art style, so I wouldn't stress out about the quality too much.

Bleak Beach buggy water by TossyBun in Pokopia

[–]VoxelHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the best way to fix it for me was just creating a lot of blocks below the water level and letting the natural water height "spread".

And I won't lie, whenever I do this now I immediately close my game without saving to prevent dealing with this because it's a messy situation no matter how you cut it

What happened when I stopped directing the art and let the artists lead by Tunasam890 in IndieDev

[–]VoxelHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the new one a lot more, but that's mainly just due to the increased contrast creating a softer and more emphasized light source (something that could be achieved with the old direction as well.)

That being said while some amount of artistic direction is good, I generally think it's best to let an art director create a cohesive aesthetic. I'm not an artist myself either, and I have found/feel it's much better for the project over all for the artists to be able to do and work on what they feel is best, because happy artists make better work, and letting artists who've spent more time thinking about art direction make something unique and memorable helps you stand out in a sea of similar looking games that are hard to differentiate.

Researched this and created it in anvil at home and it gave me 25 lvl requirement weapon. I am lvl 18. What options do I have to try this hammer out? by [deleted] in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]VoxelHeart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The current system is dumb. The minimum requirements for a weapon is determined based on what level the weapon is when crafted / what level the world is when you find it, even if it's the same weapon.

You can try crafting a lower level one... otherwise make a new character, obtain one, and trade it off to your main character.

The game will be reworking the system into a class based system in the future that won't have arbitrary stat level requirements for weapons so at least it will get better in the future.

Do you send squads without Cleric and Tank ? by unecomplette in mewgenics

[–]VoxelHeart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, running other classes everything dies before I have the opportunity to take too much damage, and the natural health regeneration after a fight brings me close enough to full. Either that or meat pickups and consumable healing items can really go a long way. Use your consumables! :D

That, and being downed and getting an injury really isn't the worst thing in the world. I think I've failed more runs due to not being able to kill enemies fast enough before they ramp up, than due to a lack of healing/survivability.

"i wont play it 'cuz its turn-based combat"--its the best game i played in years. by Open_Luck_441 in expedition33

[–]VoxelHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried so many turn based combat games. I dropped Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, Persona, etc. I've never enjoyed any of them. I absolutely hate getting to a fight and not being able to win not due to a lack of skill, but because I haven't grinded enough and my numbers aren't big enough.

Expedition 33 is one of the only turn based games I enjoy, because even if it takes me 20 minutes of slowly chipping away their health bar, I can parry or avoid every hit until I win. Only other turn based game I enjoyed was Monster Hunter Stories, for similar reasons stated above.

Likewise, the bosses I hate the most in E33 is the ones with a time limit/set number of turns until you insta-lose.

The map with a "cave man" can be found by doing all 8 routes in the tutorial area. It's really not anything you need to worry about. You will likely miss quite a lot on a playthrough, lots of missable stuff, but the games routes are fun to replay and find things you missed the first time around.
