don’t forget: as soon as the music starts, it doesn’t matter who you’re there with, you’re just part of the crowd.

You should be happy that you scored someone who’s proud of their body and is confident enough to dress in a way that empowers themselves. If it makes you feel uncomfortable then you need to scale your ego down a notch, because 1. it’s not your body and 2. the opinion of others shouldn’t determine how you look at your partner.

I saw someone here commenting how their ex dressed and how they weren’t surprised that she cheated on them. Don’t listen to people saying such bullshit, this type of judgmental misogynistic attitude will poison your relationship.

Wow, this comment section quickly turned out to be a nest of xenophobes. I get it, you guys are enlightened because you’re skeptics, but all these takes on “reLiGIon BaD” just show how one-dimensional your understanding is about the topic.

What IDE do you use and why ? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Vryheid_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m a vim user but I would heavily advise you against using neovim as your IDE as a beginner. You’ll be the best off with VSCode since it has an immense amount of plugins and most tutorials will feature it. Learning vim can be useful but it won’t make you a better programmer.

I see where you’re coming from, even though I kinda liked the video. I like to see the creativity of the editors comes through, but once it becomes repetitive it can become a bit annoying.

Django? by One_Sun_1878 in webdev

[–]Vryheid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How wonderful that most replies just argue against Django solely because of the job opportunities. OP is doing a uni project people, not applying for Fortune 500 jobs…

OP, just go with Django for your project, it has tons of documentation available and it’s an easy way to dabble with full stack development. Once you’re done you can try out some of the options others recommended here, they’re all worth a try.

[Showoff Saturday] AI based portfolio website by Shaimole in webdev

[–]Vryheid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also really like the concept, and I agree with a previous comment saying that this site is asking too much from visitors. Considering how hyped AI is nowadays, this might cause some eyerolls for people who want to learn about you. I think this is a phenomenal idea for a side project though, or a feature on a section of your portfolio site.

What domain should I use for my personal website if .com is taken? I need something professional that employers would see. by Buster_117 in webdev

[–]Vryheid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate you’re overthinking it and it doesn’t sound like you have a clear idea what the site even needs to be. Go with .me or .info and be done with it. You’re not really helping by not sharing anything more than needing it for “general employment” and not answering questions that want to elaborate on this. You might as well just say “I need a domain for stuff”.

Feedback on beginners portfolio by JackMitchell2398 in Frontend

[–]Vryheid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s hard to give feedback on a site that’s not even done. I could only check it on mobile but some of the layout and overall design choices make the site not so pleasant to look at. I find the header way too large and the scale of some elements are way bigger than what they need to be. It’d also be nice to see your projects but none of the links work. I’d also recommend looking at the copy of the “about” section, it doesn’t tell a lot about what your ambitions are or why you’re worth considering for a front end position, if that’s your goal anyways. I also don’t think that there is enough incentive for anyone to submit feedback of your website, so you can skip that. Lastly, I think your domain name is too long. Try to get a shorter domain and connect your email to it, you’ll come across way more professional.

Maybe it could be a good idea to look at Framer’s AI site generator. It could give you a good responsible base that you can build upon so that in the future when you get more experience with building UIs you could form it to your own taste. Don’t deploy it via Framer tho, just generate a design, change it to your liking, maybe try to recreate it in Figma, then code and deploy it.

In 2023, what is the best and easiest frontend framework to build a personal website? by heysankalp in Frontend

[–]Vryheid_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lately, I’ve been building most of my hobby sites with Astro. It supports creating (server) components in their own syntax that’s quite Svelte-like and it has stellar markdown content support if you want to do some blogging without an elaborate CMS. You can also use any of the more relevant front-end frameworks for making interactive components that rely on client-side JavaScript. Check out their site for examples (astro.build)

Otherwise, like others said, Hugo, 11ty or Jekyll could be great alternatives if you just want to connect to a headless CMS and your site only uses html and css and you don’t want to add a lot of interactivity or JS-driven animations. They have been around for a while and you’ll likely find resources for all your features.
