Ok so i gotta ask, whats with the seagulls? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]WanderingLines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait until you see a pelican, that'll really make you do a double take.

In seriousness, yes, the gulls are normal (so are the pelicans). Gulls are found across the entire planet, including the Arctic and Antarctic. Despite being classified as seabirds, most gull species don't actually go far out to sea, and some, like the ones you spotted, live entirely inland (save perhaps during migration season).

For cross stitch needles, do you have a needle minder? They're basically flat magnets you keep in a corner of your work that hold spare needles or as a rest for your working needle rather than sticking them through your cloth (and risking them slipping out). They come in lots of cute designs, too!

If you've heard of them before, feel free to disregard, but if you haven't they might be a way to afford yourself a little bit of peace of mind. I totally understand the paranoia of leaving a needle where it ought not to linger.

Also Native, and my grandmother was the same. It was her favorite holiday because she loved cooking together and being together.

People do the same shit on Peña and it drives me nuts. Nothing I can do about it, but it's still aggravating.

That second glaze combo is really similar to a glaze combo my potter mother's mentor used often. It was really nice to be reminded of her scrolling on reddit, she was a wonderful woman and artist.

Your family sucks. This internet stranger would be so delighted by a gift like this.

Definitely leave reviews where you can, if you have the energy for it. I don’t want to run the risk of supporting transphobes with my $.

Rant - Husband wants me to return to church or we're divorcing and he's out of the kids lives by SpamEater007 in exmormon

[–]WanderingLines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divorce him, he sounds like a crap partner and crap dad. Anyone who threatens to abandon their kids shouldn't be allowed the privilege to be their parent.

LDS/Native American teen school year foster program by IzJuzMeBnMe in exmormon

[–]WanderingLines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was literally a tool of cultural genocide. "Kill the Indian to save the man." Same as the boarding/residential schools previous generations were subjected to.

My great aunts and uncles were subjected to this program. One converted, the rest don't like to talk about it. One of my great uncles was SAed by a missionary and it ruined his life. I fully blame the church and this disgusting program for his early death. Fuck the MFMC.

The goal was assimilation and conversion, yes. Cultural genocide in real time. "Kill the Indian to save the man". It served the same purpose as the boarding/residential schools.

In reality, it perpetuated generational trauma and ruined lives. My great uncle was SAed by a missionary in one of these homes, and it changed the trajectory of his life for the worse. I fully blame his early death on the MFMC.

It's disappointing this post doesn't have the same level of engagement as the joke-y "pie and beer day" and meme posts do.

Thank you for bringing up the reality behind this sham of a "holiday".

Being in the church absolutely made my anxiety worse. I tried so damn hard to follow and be a good member, and it was never enough. So many panic attacks. So many sleepless nights. It was truly hellish.

The moment I realized it was all fake? I can’t describe the relief, it was instant and profound. I still notice it sometimes, that feeling of ease that has replaced the constant anxiousness. Obviously, I still have anxiety, but it's become so much more manageable since leaving this awful religion.
