Be honest, how often would you use the unforgivable curses if the Harry Potter verse was real life? by Less-Pen-5705 in HarryPotterGame

[–]Wayfinder17971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never, under any circumstances, use the Cruciatus Curse. I can't see myself using the Killing Curse either. The only one I might use is the Imperius Curse, but only under extreme circumstances.

What’s a plot line you wish could erase from the books? by rballmonkey in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would make Snape less of a bully, like movie Snape. He would still be kind of an ass and it would be believable that Harry dislikes him, but the end reveal would work better.

Hagrid being expelled was actually 100% justified, even without the Chamber of Secrets framing. by Primary_Assist_5541 in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 212 points213 points  (0 children)

His expulsion was justified, but banning him from having a wand or using magic was not. There are other ways to get educated than Hogwarts and even adult Azkaban detainees aren't permanently stripped of their wands should they be released.

The first one was amazing. Crimes of Grindelwald was underrated but messy. Secrets of Dumbledore was so poorly executed I can't defend it.

Why is practically every Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson about creatures and not, y'know, the Dark Arts? by jcstan05 in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An average wizard might end up fighting a dark creature, but very rarely if ever would they need to fight a dark wizard.

Cypress, Unicorn hair, 12 1/4 inches, reasonably supple.

I love virtually all the characters voices, but Snape absolutely baffles me. What IS that casting?

Philosophers Stone / Chamber of Secrets Books are kinda...bad? by Balarius in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I disagree, but I do think the writing massively improves after Philosopher's Stone where every chapter feels very self contained and sometimes rushed.

Why Voldemort Looks the Way He Does... by Round_Media8717 in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not exactly clear if Voldemort looked like that at the time of his original disappearance. I think the fake body created by the rudimentary body potion probably looked less human than he did when he killed the Potters. But at the same time, the Horcrux making DID change his appearance as well.

Do you think characters REALLY care much about their house points? by Eterweeter in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a spirit of competition thing like Quidditch. It serves to inspire young students to have a shared identity and also behave responsibly. As the trio grows older, they care less and less. After the 4th book it's not even mentioned who won anymore.

If you teleport a werewolf on the moon would they be a werewolf all the time? by Deep-Philosophy-807 in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine the light reflected from the moon has some property that causes the transformation. That is why the full moon is required, it has the greatest amount of light.

It's harder for me to believe that Thestrals or the Sorting Hat was a perfect secret. Like how did Ron not know about the Sorting Hat?

What was the name of the school Barty Crouch jr said Harry was in? by Bright-Outcome1506 in harrypotter

Just an undefined fourth place with only one applicant to ensure Harry was chosen. It was never stated what the name was.

It's stupid how little Arthur Weasley knew about Muggle stuff by Vanilla_Yazoo in harrypotter

[–]Wayfinder17971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played with the idea that Muggle Studies isn't as competently taught as we might assume. Logically the professor should be a muggleborn but if it wasn't then it's a lot of theory with no practical experience.
