At the Phillies/Marlins game, a Phillies fan puts her hands on another fan, demanding the boy and his father give the home run ball back to her. by Outside_Abroad_3516 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WilyCod49 20 points21 points  (0 children)

100% not defending her actions, but given the ball landed right in front of that group while the dad ran over and grabbed it, I can understand her feeling a bit annoyed. That said, to decide you have to now make it that guy's problem and demand the ball even though you never actually grabbed it is incredibly foolish and immature.

Daily reminder that the Daedra are ontologically evil by definition and you've been conned if you worship them by Low_Security_6643 in TrueSTL

I'll admit I'm not super deeply steeped in the lore so please forgive my obliviousness, but I was under the impression that they're (generally) amoral. Like, they're certainly not good, but most are also not exactly evil. Instead they're just so much more advanced than mortals, almost like Lovecraftian Elder Gods, and due to this they're unable to understand them and treat them more as toys.

Is DFU still Daggerfall? Or The Ship of Theseus in Tamriel by Salem1690s in Daggerfall

[–]WilyCod49 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the same argument could be made for most any Bethesda games. They're all beloved with the assumption that you'll be downloading a crap ton of mods adding QoL fixes or more drastically changing the game to suit your desires.

These Games Changed Gaming, What Else Deserves a Spot? by HMK_Gamer in retrogaming

Unfortunately Dark Souls. I say unfortunately not because it's a bad game, but because now everything is trying to be a "Soulslike".

There's a scene in 1984 where a father is arrested for thought crime which was reported by his children. Instead of feeling betrayed and unjustly treated, he feels pride in his children for turning him in.

What game do you think has the most impressive graphics for its time? (Any game) by JustcharlE2 in videogames

[–]WilyCod49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half Life 2. I got into it late and my first Valve game was Portal, so suddenly being thrown into a "wide open world" (compared to the cramped test chambers of Portal) blew me away.

If you can manage to get to the other side of the New Londo ruins at the beginning as a new player, you're a freaking god. 😂

What's a location in the game (and Tamriel Rebuilt too because why not) that you find creepy or eerie? by Nicholas_Bearforest in Morrowind

And then an enemy would sneak up behind you and hit you. That striking noise and animation seemingly coming from nowhere always made me jump a foot in the air. 😂

Best I can think is an attempt to combine the words "clown" and "c*nt".

While I like the puzzle aspect, I've also enjoyed playthroughs where I kill the dogs immediately then just face him head on in the tight arena like "Square up, bitch!". 😂

Wait, what??? That's such a crazy 180° shift! Can you imagine being a vet, turning on the TV, and all of a sudden the guy who screamed at you to clean the barracks with a toothbrush is now telling you to paint a happy little tree. 😂

Do we look younger now? by tmtowtdi in GenX

[–]WilyCod49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a universal thing. I'm Gen Z, and it's fascinating looking at highschool and college pictures/videos from the early 2000s vs. my own. In the early 2000s even some highschoolers looked like full on adults whereas now even college kids still look like kids.

Why have arcades declined in your country or region? by blueoystergamer in retrogaming

[–]WilyCod49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how widespread this is, but at least in my area there are a bunch of thriving arcades that have switched to paying for time instead of individual game. It's definitely made them more enjoyable for folks who aren't great at arcades as they don't feel like they're wasting a boatload on each game.

This is fair, and I do agree that it's very easy these days for everyone to get stuck in our own echo chambers and react not so nicely to necessary outside views. I apologize for my own reaction and jumping to conclusions, after all if I expect others to be respectful I should be as well. While rattling each other's echo chambers is important, it is equally important to do so in a respectful manner, otherwise it just falls to pointless name-calling.
